Elephant is a herbivor animal and eat all almost
all of the vegetations and fruits.
They have almost hairless skin, wide ears, four legs, and long trunk. Elephants is known as the largest mammals. Elephant skin color is generally gray, elephants also have very sharp auditory because they have big and wide ears. By these ears, they can hear sounds from a distance about tens kilometer. At the back of the ears, they have one of the softest parts of their body which is called the knuckle. In a zoo, Mahouts (elephant trainers) use their feet to steer or give commands to the animal via tha knuckle. Now, they are a kind of protected animals because their population remains little in their habitat. Their population began to decline year by year.
They tend to be near water. Elephants are
considered a keystone species because of their impact on the environment. Other animals tend to keep their distance from elephants, and predators such as lions, tigers. hyenas, and wild dogs usually only attack young elephants. Female elephants tend to live in family groups, consisting of one female and her young or several related females and their young. The group is led by an individual elephant called a matriarch, who is usually the oldest female. Elephants have a fission-fusion group structure, which is when family groups meet to socialize.
Elephants can live for 70 years in the wild. They
communicate by touch, sight, smell, and sound; elephants also use infrasound and seismic communication over long distances. The intelligence of elephants has been compared to that of primates and cetaceans. They appear to be self-aware and show empathy for other elephants who are near or have died.
