IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MERCIFUL, THE
COMPASSIONATE

Praise be to Allah the Lord of Creation. Prayers and peace
س ِدَن ُمم ٍد َخَت اَلنيوالصَلةوالَلم لَع ِ هلل ر ِب اعل
ِ ِ احلمد
be upon our Master Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets ِ ِ
َ َ ُ َ َ َ َّ
ام اَل ْرس ِِلن
ِ ال ِب ِبني وإم.
and the Imam of the Messengers.
ُ ْ ُ َ ُ َ ْ َ َّ ُ َ ْ ُ ص ْ َ ِّ َ ُ ْ َ َ ُ َ َ ُ َّ َ
The first obligation upon the responsible one is to correct ت ِحيح ِإيَم ِن ِه ث َمرفة مايص ِلح ِب ِه:)ِل
ِ ِ ِ (أول ما ي ِجبلَع اَلك
his faith. Then [he must] know what is necessary to
ْ ََ ُ ََ َ ِّ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َّ َ ْ ََ ْ َ َ َْ
) (وي ِجب َعي ِه.ام ِ لصي ِ ام الصَل ِةوالطهار ِةوا ِ فرض َع ِن ِه كأحك
correct his farḍ ʿayn, such as the rules of prayer,
َ َ ُ َ َ ْ َ َ َْ َ ْ َ َ َ َ
purification and fasting. The responsible one is obligated
ُ ُ َ َ َ َ ُ ْ
to preserve the boundaries of Allāh and observe His اهلل تي
ِ ْم ِهوَن ِي ِه و وب ِإَل هلل وي ِقف ِِعد أ ِ ود ا
ِ أن يَح ِفظ لَع ُح
ِ
ََ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َْ ُ َ َ ْ ُ
commands and prohibitions. The responsible one must
repent before Allāh becomes angry with him. ْ
ُسَحنه َقل أن يسخظ َعي ِه
َ
َ ود إ ََل َذ ْْن ِف ََم َبَ ُ َ َ ْ ُ َِّ ِّ َ َ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َّ َ ْ َّ ُ ُ ُ َ
The conditions of repentance (tawbah) are: ِق ِ ِ ِ ِ ع ي َل نأ الية
ِ و،وُشوط الوب ِة الدملَع ما َفت
ْ َ
َ ُ َ َ ْ َ َ َ ٌ َ ْ َ َ ُ َْ ْ َ
1. Remorse over what was done,
َل ًسا ِبا ِّ َ ُم ُُ ْ ََ
ْ َع
2. An intention never to return to the sin for the rest of
ِ ن َك ن إ ا
ِ ِِت اع س ِف ة ي صِ عَل ا كر تي ن أ و ، هِ ر ُع ِمِ ه
ِ ي
ِ ِ ِ
his life, and
3. To leave the sin immediately if he was in the midst of
performing it.

ْ ُ َِّ َ ُ َِّ َ ْ َ َِّ َ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ْ َِّ َ ِّ َ ُ ْ ُ َ ُِّ َ َ
It is not permissible to delay repentance (tawbah) nor to وَل ي ِحل َل أن يؤ ِخر الوبة وَل يُقل حَت يه ِديِن اهلل؛ ف ِإنه ِِم
ِ
َ ْ ُْ
َ َ ال َقاء َواْلذَلن َو َط ْمس َ َ َ
say, “I will repent once Allāh guides me.” Verily this is
َِّ
صير ِةِ ابل ِ ِ ات
ِ عَلم.
ِ
from amongst the signs of wretchedness (shaqā’),
abandonment (khudhlān), and blinding of the spiritual
inner sight (baṣīra).
َ َ َ َ ْ ُْ َ َ ْ َْ َ َ ُ ْ ََ ُ ََ
ْ َع
It is an obligation for the responsible one to protect his

tongue from: Foul speech, Evil speech
ْ َ َ ِّ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ َ َِّ َ ْ َ لفت
Ugly words Swearing by divorce وُس ِهوَتو ِيف ِه،اَن ِه
ِ ه إ و ِل
ِ ِِ س اَل ار ِت ان و، ق َل الط ن َم ي أ ا ِ يح و
Ridiculing a Muslim Mocking a Muslim ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ ِ
ْ َ ِّ َ ْ َ
Cursing a Muslim Frightening a Muslim without a ِِِّف َغر حقُشِع. ِ
valid reason. ٍ ِ
َ
ْ ُ َ ُِّ َ َ َ َ َ َ َِّ َ ََ ُ ْ ََ ُ ََ
It is an obligation upon the responsible one to protect his
وَل ي ِحل َل أن،(وي ِجب) َع ْي ِه ِحفظ تَص ِهعن الظر ِإَلاحل َر ِام
ِ ِ ِ
ُُ َ ْ ُ َ َ ً َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َِّ
eyes from looking at the prohibited. It is not permissible
ُْ َ ْ َ ْ ُ َ َ ُ َْ
يه ِإَل أن يكون َف ِسفا ِف ِجب ِهْجانه ٍِ يتظر ِإَل مش.
ِ ِل ِِبظر ٍة تؤ ِذ
for him to look at a Muslim in a way that harms him. This
is unless the person is a transgressor (fāsiq) in which case
one must not keep his company.
ُ ارل َي ُ ْ ُ ْ َ ُ ْ ْ َ ُ َ الِم
ِّ ب َو َِّ َ ُ َ َ ُ َ ْ ََْ ُُ ْ ََ
اء يبةو ِ مةوال ِكيرواعلج اغل
ِ ويْحم َعي ِه الك ِذب

He is prohibited from:
Lying (kadhib), Backbiting (ghība)

ُ ْ َِّ َ ُ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ َ ص ْ َ ْ ُ َ ْ ُ َ ُ ْ ُ ْ ُ َ َ ْ َ ُ َ ْ ُِّ َ
Carrying tales (namīma) Arrogance (kibr)
والمعةواحلسد ابلعض ورؤية الف للَع اغلي ِرواْلمزواَللز
Vanity (ʿujb) Showing off (rīyā’) ِ
ُ َ ْ ُِّ َ ُ َ ْ
Bragging (sumʿa) Jealousy (ḥasad) اعل ََبوالْخية
Hate (bughd) ِ
Seeing oneself as being better than others (ru’yatul fadl
alal ghayr)
Winking and pointing [in mockery] (al hamzuwal lamzu)
Frivolity (ʿabath) Mockery (sukhriyya)

Section of Purification (Ṭahara) فصل ِِفالط َهار ِة
Purification (ṭahara) is two types:
َ
1. Purification from ḥadath ُ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ ََ َ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َِّ
صح اجل ِِمع ِ ي َل ٍ َطارة ُح ٍث وَطارة خب:الطهارة ِقشَم ِن

2. Purification from filth (khabath)
ْ
ُ ُ َ َ ْ ُ ُ ْ َ ْ ُ ُ ْ َ ٌ َِّ َ َ َ ْ َ َِّ َ ُ
َ َ ِّ َِّ َ َِّ
Purification from both types is not achieved except with اَليَل يتغير َلنه أو طعُم أو ر ِائحته ِ وُه،اه ِر ا طه ِر َل ِ اء الط ِ ِإَل ِِبَل
ُ َِّ َ َ َ ْ َ ِّ ُ ْ َِّ َ ً َ ُ ُ َ ُ َ
pure and purifying water. It is water that has not changed
َ َِّ َ ْ َِّ َ
in either its color, taste or smell by something that is not واَلذح والصاُب ِن،ّل ك
ِ ِ م س ال و ن م ال و ت ي َغبلا َكل
ِ ارقه ِِبا يف
ِ ِ ِ ِ
ْ ْ َ
ْ َ َ َ َ ْ َ َ َ َِّ َ ْ َ َ َْ َ َ َْ َ
normally a part of it such as:
َ ُِّ َ َ َ
Oil, Fat, Grease, Grime, Soap, ابواحلَم ِةوالبخ ِةواْلخر وَنو ِه ِ وَل بأس ِِبلر،خ وَن ِو ِه واَلس.
Filth, And the like ِ ِ
There is no harm with:
Dirt, Mud, Salt
ْ َ َ ْ ُ َغ ْش َ ُ َ ْ َ ُ ِّ َِّ ُ َ َغ ْش

Section

ْ
The obligations (farḍ) of ablution (wuḍū’) are seven:
ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ َ
ْ ْ ِّ ُ ْ َ َ
َِّ َو َم ْش ُح،َف ْنيََ ْ ْ َ
1. An intention,

2. Washing the face ِ ِ ِ ِ
ُ ْ َ ْ َ ُ ْ َِّ َ
3. Washing the arms up to [and including] the elbows َفر وال،والْل.
4. Wiping the head
5. Washing the feet up to [and including] the ankles
6. Rubbing
7. Continuity

1. Direct nullifiers (aḥdāth)
ْ ُِّ َ َ ْ ْ

2. Causes (asbāb)

The aḥdāth are:
1. Urination واجلنون
2. Defecation
3. Passing wind
The asbāb are:
َ ْ ُ ُِّ َ َ َ ٌ َ ََ ٌ َ َ ْ َ ُ ْ ْ َ ُِّ َ َ ٌ ْ َ
1. Heavy sleep
2. Unconsciousness َل ي ِحل ِغلي ِر اَلت َو ِِضصَلة وَل ط َواف وَل مس بسخ ِة:فصل

3. Intoxication
َ ْ َ ُْ ْ ُ
4. Insanity ود وَنو ِه ِإَل اجلزء ِنِما
ٍ تب
َل ِ ِد ِه وَل ِب،آن اعل ِظيوَل ْج ِدها ِ الُق
ِ ِ ِ ِ
َْ ْ َ َ َ ِّ ْ
آن اعل ِظي ُقْ ُ س َْلح ال ُِّ َ َ
م َل و ، ه ِف َ اَل َت َع

It is not permissible for one who does not have wuḍū’ to:
ِ ِ ِ ِ
1. Pray. ٍ
2. Perform ṭawāf (circuits around the kaʾbah).
3. Touch a copy of the Qur’ān or its cover with his hand,
a stick or the like. This is with the exception of a portion
of the Qur’ān that he is studying from.
4. Touch a tablet (lawḥ) that has Qur’ān written on it
unless one is a student or a teacher that is correcting him.
SECTION ON TAYAMMUM
[Dry Ablution with Pure Earth]
A traveller may perform tayammum, if he is not being
disobedient in his travels [and does not have any water].
The sick person may perform tayammum for an
obligatory prayer (farḍ) or a recommended prayer
(nāfila). The healthy resident may perform tayammum, if
he fears that he will lose the time of the prayer. The
healthy resident may not perform tayammum for a
recommended prayer, jumuʿa, or a funeral prayer
(janāza), except if [in the last case] it was an obligation
upon him.
The obligations of tayammum are:
1. Intention
2. Pure earth (ṣaʿīd)
3. Wiping the face
4. Wiping the hands to the wrists
5. The first contact with the earth
6. Continuity
7. The time of the prayer being in
8. That the tayammum is connected to the prayer without
interruption

‘O Allah, I take refuge with You lest I should stray or be Upon leaving the masjid
led astray; slip or be tripped; oppress or be oppressed, or َ ْ َ ْ َ ُ َ ْ َ ِّ َِّ ُ َِّ َِّ ُ َ َ َ ُ َِّ َ ُ َِّ َ ْ
behave foolishly or be treated foolishly.’ ، اله ِإ ِِن أسأْل ِِم فص ِْل، اهلل
ِ ول ِ اهللوا َلةوالَلم لَع رس
ِبس ِم ِ لص
َِّ َ ْ ُ َِّ
ارل ِحيَِّ ِم ال ْت َطان ْ َِّ ال
ِ ه اع ِصم ِِن
Upon entering the house ِ ِ
َ ْ َِّ َ َ َ ِّ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ َْ َ َ ْ
ولَع ر ِِبا َتكْلا، اهلل خ َرْجا
ِ و ِبس ِم، اهلل وجلنا
ِ ِبس ِم ‘In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the
Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You from Your favour.
‘In the name of Allah, we enter and in the name of Allah O Allah, guard me from the accursed devil.’
we leave, and upon our Lord we place our trust.’ Supplications related to the adhan [the call to prayer]
…and then one should greet his family with salam.
‘One repeats just as the mu‘adhdhin [i.e., one who calls

و ِِف تَصي َنرا، و ِِف َسِع َنرا، اِن َنرا ِ ل ِ ِف ِ و ، را َن ليب ق اله اجعل ِِف ح لَع الصَل ِة or ح لَع الفَلح
ِ ِ ِ
ْ َ ً ُْ َ ْ َ َ ً ُْ َ ْ َ َ ً ُْ ْ َ ْ َ ً ُ َْ ْ َ
و ِِم، وعن ِِش ِاَل َنرا، وعن ي ِِمِن َنرا، و ِِمَتَت َنرا، و ِِم َف ِِق َنرا،
ِ ِ ‘come to prayer’ or ‘come to success’
ِّ َ َ ً ُ ْ َ َ ً ُْ ْ َ ْ َ ْ َ ً ُ ْ َ ْ َ ً ُْ َ

وع ِط ْم، وأع ِط ْم َِل َنرا، واجعل ِِف نف ِِس َنرا، و ِِم َخ ِِف َنرا، اِم َنرا ِ م أ Instead, one should say:
ً ُ ْ َ َِّ ً ُ ْ ً ُ ً َِّ َ َِّ ُ َ َ َ ْ َ َ
ْ َ ْ َ ْ
واجعل ِِف، ه أع ِطِن َنرا َِّ ُ ال ، نْل َنرا
ْ َ ْ َ ْ ْ َ ْ َ ِ َل حول وَل قة ِإَل ِِب.
هلل
ِ ِ واجع، واجعل َِل َنرا، َل َنرا
َ َ َ ً ُ َ
ْ َ َ ً ُْ َ َ ً ُْ ْ َ ً ُْ َ َ
و ِِف شَبي، و ِِف سعري َنرا، و ِِف د ِِم َنرا، و ِِف حل ِِم َنرا، عصيب َنرا ‘There is no might nor power except with Allah.’

ْ ً ُ َ ً َ ً ْ ُ ْ
ْ َ َِّ ُ َ ِّ ً ُْ
ْ َنرا ِف
Immediately following the declaration of faith called by
وزد ِِن، [وزدِن َنرا.]اِم ِ ط ع
ِ ِف وَنرا ي ر َق َل ِ ل ع اج ه [ال . را َن
ِ ِ ِ ِ the mu‘adhdhin, one says:
ُْ َ َ ً ُْ ْ َ َ ً ُ ْ ً ُ َ
ُ ُ ُ َ َ ُ ْ َ ً َِّ َ ُ َِّ َ ُ َ َ َ َ ْ َ ُ َِّ

ََ َ ْ ُ َ ْ َ َ
َ َ
. وَه َِل َنرا لَع َنر.] وزد ِِن َنرا، َنرا
ِ ِ ، َعد ُه ورس ْوَل اهلل وُح ُه َل ُشيك َل وأن ُممدا وأَن أَشد أن َل ِإَل ِإَل
ْ َ ً ْ ُ َ َِّ َ ُ َ ً ِّ َ َِّ ُ َ
‘O Allah, place within my heart light; and upon my َلم ِديتا ِ و ِِب ِإلس، و ِِبحم ٍد رسوَل، هلل ر ِِب ِ ضيت ِِبِ ر.
tongue light; and within my ears light; and within my
eyes light; and place above me light; and beneath me ‘And I too bear witness that none has the right to be
light; and on my right light; and on my left light; and in worshipped except Allah, alone, without any partner, and
front of me light; and behind me light; and place light that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. I am pleased
with Allah as a Lord, and Muhammad as a Messenger and
within my soul; and augment light for me; and greaten
Islam as a religion.’
light for me; and grant me light and make me light. O
ََ َ ً َِّ َ ُ َ َ َِّ َ َِّ َِّ َ ْ َِّ َ َِّ َ َِّ ُ
آت ُممدا اَل ِسَل ِ ائم ِة ِ َه ِه الُع ِة الام ِةوالص
ِ َلة الف ِ اله رب
Allah, bestow upon me light; and place light in my
tendons; and light in my flesh; and light in my blood; and ْ ُ ْ ُ َ َ َِّ َِّ ً ْ ًَ َ َُ ْ َْ َ ََ َ َ
َ َ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُم ُم
in light in my hair and light in my skin.’ [O Allah, place ] اَليعاد
ِ ِل ِ َت َل ك ن[إ
ِ ، ه ت َع و ي اَل
ِ دا و امافم ه ث اِب و يَل ص لف
ِ وا.
light for me in my grave and light in my bones]. [And
increase me with light and increase me with light and ‘O Allah, Owner of this perfect call and Owner of this
increase me with light]. [And grant me light upon light.]’ prayer to be performed, bestow upon Muhammad al-
wasilah and al-fadhilah and send him upon a praised
platform which You have promised him. [Verily, You
never fail in Your promise].’
