Foreword

This LV was drawn up in the present version by representatives of the automobile manufacturers AUDI AG, BMW AG ,
Daimler AG, Porsche AG and Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft.

This LV is stored as a Word file in the standardization department of AUDI AG.

This LV does not claim to be complete. The car manufacturers are free at any time to demand additional tests
corresponding to the respective state of the art.

Since the individual automobile manufacturers may make changes, work may only be carried out in accordance with the
automobile manufacturer's company standards resulting from this LV.

Deviations from the present LV are listed in the company standards on the cover sheet (in justified exceptions, deviations
can be shown in italics in the text of the standard). If modifications of individual test sections are required in individual
cases, these must be agreed separately between the responsible departments of the car manufacturer and the supplier.

In the case of comprehensive development projects by automobile manufacturers, test reports are recognized if the
tests were carried out by an independent institute accredited according to DIN EN ISOTIEC 17025 . The acceptance of
the test reports does not require an automatic release. Other test reports can be accepted at the discretion of the
customer.

1 Scope

This LV describes requirements and tests for single -core, unharnessed vehicle cables for a
nominal voltage range of ≤ 600 V AC I 900 V DC Voltage class 2.

The test points for the respective requirements can be found in Matrix 7.1 .

2 General

This LV is only for new designs. Lines that are already in series production do not have to be changed.
Subsequent changes to material. Dimensions, manufacturing processes, etc. must be communicated
to the respective design specialists, who may request a new release.

The scope of testing from this LV and, in individual cases, special testing conditions must be
defined with the responsible development departments and approved by them.

Existing test results for the insulation material can be used.

3 Dimensions and Line Structure

Dimensions and line structure can be found in the relevant sections in the appendix. Details that are not
specified must be agreed with the development departments.

4 Structure of the Abbreviation

The cable designation is based on DIN 76722

Example:

Designation of an unshielded high-voltage line (FHL) with thick-walled insulation, a conductor


cross- section of 16 mm 2 (16), conductor structure asymmetrical type B (-B) with bare individual
wires rnax. Diameter 0.21mm (/0.21), 31Y abbreviation of the insulating material (TPE-S), continuous
service temperature To 125ºC:

FHL31Y 16/0.21-B T125 0.6/0.9kV

5 Materials

5.1 Ladder

See LV 112-1 and LV 112-2.

5.2 Insulation

The minimum and maximum continuous service temperatures (T u and T o ) for stress durations
of 3,000 h are to be selected according tot the temperature clsases according to Table 2 or,
in exceptional cases, according to the drawing. The temperature clss of the sheated cable is
determined by the insulation material with the lower temperature class.

The long-term service temperature defines the use of the cables without conductor heating due to the
current loads, i.e. in an insane, unenergized state, conductor heating can now be calculated according to
the specifications of LV 112-3.

In special cases, Txyz enables the classification of intermediate temperatures, for example
temperature class T135.

6 Labeling and Delivery Specifications

6.1 Container Identification

The labeling of containers must conform to VDA Volume 6 Part 1 and must be agreed between the customer
and the supplier.

6.2 Line Manufacturer Identification

The insulation must be labeled with the manufacturer, e.g., by printing or embossing. Alternatively, a tracer
thread can be used. The following printing must be applied to the insulation for cross-sections > 1 mm2:
Lightning Bolt (as a symbol). ATTENTION HIGH VOLTAGE MAX 500/900V AC/DC LIGHTNING BOLT (as
a symbol)

An easily legible color with a sufficient size of the letters is to be chosen. The unprinted space between the
texts may be a maximum of 200 mm.

Annotation: The printing/marking can also be done by the fabricator.

6.3 Color

The outer jacket basic color orange similar to RAL 2003 is to be used.

The colours of the aged (6h, 240h, and 3000h) and unaged line must be documented on a picture (see also
8.6.6 and 8.6.8)

6.3.1 Color Identification

Colored strips are permitted to distinguish between several HV lines in the vehicle electrical system. These
must be indelibly integrated into the insulation.

The color coding is based on DIN 72551-7.

6.4 Delivery Specifications

Failure to comply with these delivery requirements wil result in the goods being returend at the supplier’s
expense.

6.4.1 Delivery Specifications

The insulation must be free of knots, cracks, bubbles and foreign inclusions. The core insulation must be
able to be stripped off without leaving any residue using commercially available stripping machines.

6.4.1 Checking for insulation faults in core insulation

Checking for insulation faults in the core insulation according to LV 112-1 point 6.4.2.

These tests are carried out in the course of core extrusion and in a subsequent rewinding process. The test
voltages of the spark tester can be found the following table:

Defects are to be dealt with according to 6.4.3.1.

6.4.3 Packing Units

The packaging units are to be agreed between the customer and the manufacturer.

6.4.3 .1 Partial lengths, ties, imperfections

In exceptional cases, a specified lenght can be made up of partial lengths and must be marked separately.

— Ties of the partial lengths must not exceed the diameter of the cable and must not tear during
processing.

— Tie marking and marking of defects by means of markings 30 mm to 100 mm away

Deviating agreements between cable manufacturer and fabricator are permissible, in this case the
vehicle manufacturer must be informed accordingly upon request.

6.4.3 .1 Identification of the delivery unit

The container identification must be attached in such a way that it is visible at all times, even when
packed on pallets.

Traceability must be guaranteed.

The documentation of the tests according to case A, case B and case C is to be sent to the customer.
For cases D and E, the documentation and archiving obligation lies with the cable manufacturer and only
needs to be sent to the customer upon request.

Scope of testing A1/A2:

Check for the main manufacturing site.


- new lines or
- known lines with new compound.
The procedure for minor compound changes must be discussed with the development department.

Tests B to E require a release according to A1.

Scope of testing B1/B2:

Same compound, different location from the same cable manufacturer.


If the insulation material has already been approved according to LV 112-1.

Regularly signed at least every 5 years.

Scope of testing A11131/C1: is performed on cross cuts 0.35; 2.5; 4; and 16.

The Short test AVB2/C2: is carried out on all other cross sections.

8 Tests

In the case of different information in the drawing and the standard, the entry in the drawing is generally
binding unless otherwise agreed. All requirements in the drawing are checked in addition to the
requirements according to the test matrix 7.1.

Explanations:

depends on the insulation surface
