Classroom Management
Beginner Percussion
Global Objective
To create a safe atmosphere to cultivate music educational growth.
Classroom Expectations/Rules
● Be kind and respectful to yourself, your peers, and your teacher. This is to ensure beginner
percussion class is a safe environment for learning.
● The students are always going to try their best. Each student has the capability to do
everything that is asked of them if they continue to try their best during each class.
● Bring the materials needed for class. Usually this is the fundamentals book, sticks,
mallets, and a practice pad. Without the materials, the students will not be able to fully
participate in class, making them fall behind.
● Students will ask for help when needed and offer help when needed. This will help
students feel comfortable asking for help. This will also help build leadership skills when
students are giving help to those who need it.
● The students will show up on time to class. If the student has a far walk to class,
communicate this on the first day so I will not count them tardy. This is to ensure the
students have enough time to get everything done in class.
● If a student is going to be absent, email the teacher as soon as possible. The teacher will
send the materials covered in class so the student does not fall behind. When learning a
new skill, it is important for all of the students to stay on track.
Procedures
● Walk in the room quietly while grabbing everything needed for class. Go to your assigned
spot and wait quietly for directions. There will be a video for the students to watch while
this is happening. This is for the students to get excited about learning about percussion.
● When the students leave the classroom, they will put their equipment away and leave the
class quietly. This helps the students get mentally ready for their next class.
● If a student needs to use the restroom, they should raise their hand and cross their pointer
and middle fingers. This lets the teacher know that they need to use the restroom without
disrupting class.
● Students are allowed to bring and drink water as needed, they do not need to ask to take a
sip of water out of their water bottle. The students need to bring their own water, as they
will not be allowed to step out of the classroom every time they need a sip of water. The
students will be active, and are encouraged to drink water.
● If a student has a question at any time, they can raise their hand and ask. The students
should feel comfortable asking questions to clarify any instructions.
