Path Towards The National Honor Society
Ever since I was a little kid, traversing my way through elementary and middle school, I
have been immersed in the world of Nipmuc National Honor Society through my older sisters.
Their consistent involvement in this organization has always served as an example of how
impactful this society is and the values it upholds. From helping my sisters in their leadership
projects or attending the induction ceremonies, I have developed an appreciation for this society
as a whole and have always known I want to be a part of it. This interest has helped me stay
motivated throughout my middle school and high school experience, in showing me the path I
aspire to follow. This long lasting legacy left behind by my sisters in the National Honor Society
program has served as a reminder to remain focused on the four pillars of the National Honor
Society, scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
The first pillar of the National Honor Society is scholarship, which is defined on their
website as more than just a report card but, “a dedicated commitment to lifelong learning”. I
believe that this pillar is best displayed by utilizing educational opportunities, in all the different
ways it can be offered to you. I feel that I display this pillar exceptionally well, displayed not
only through my exemplary grade-point average but my consistent need to learn both in and
outside of the classroom. One way I fulfill the need to learn in the classroom is by participating
frequently, and working hard to make sure I have a proper understanding of all material. I am
able to fulfill my need to learn outside of the classroom by participating in educational clubs at

school, such as DECA. DECA is an organization focused on educating students on all aspects of
the business world, teaching students how to problem solve and present their ideas in more
effective manners. Being an active member of the Nipmuc DECA chapter has helped me further
my knowledge in the business industry, helping me better understand how I can make a positive
impact outside of school.
The second and arguably the most important pillar of the National Honor Society is
service, which is all about helping others in need, for the betterment of the community. I have
always enjoyed serving my community in any way that I can because I enjoy the gratification of
helping those who need it most. The most rewarding act of service for me was helping rake
leaves for senior citizens, as I got to meet the elderly man we were helping and he was deeply
appreciative for our assistance. This was an eye opening experience for me as I finally
understood how I can make a difference, especially for those who are physically unable to. Not
only that, it taught me that there are always ways to help others and even the smallest of things
can make the biggest of differences. Likewise, I was Miscoe Hill Student Council President in
eighth grade so I have a deep understanding of how reliant Miscoe StuCo is on volunteers for
events, which is why I always make an effort to help out them specifically. From helping referee
a volleyball game to running the prize table for a carnival, I always am looking for ways to help
make these middle school events go seamlessly.
Leadership is the third pillar of the National Honor Society, which entails guiding others
in the correct direction and empowering them to perform at their best level possible. Being a
good leader requires many different qualities, such as selflessness, courage, critical thinking,
good communication, knowledge, etc. and I feel that I best demonstrate these qualities as class
president. Class president is a major responsibility, as I am held accountable for every decision

that is made, so I take this role very seriously. When leading E-Board meetings, I make sure
everyone contributes, and attempt to maintain the seriousness of the meeting while also
providing some comedic relief throughout to guarantee that everyone feels welcome. This
lighthearted and joyful atmosphere I am fostering ensures that people can feel comfortable
talking to me and can confide in me no matter what the circumstances, helping me be the most
effective leader possible.
The final pillar of the National Honor Society is character, which entails all of the
important qualities that you consistently exhibit. Growing up, my parents instilled in my siblings
and I that kindness and honesty are the most important traits that a person can possess. This has
helped me navigate life in a way that I understand that random acts of kindness go a long way.
From committing my time to the Best Buddies program to simply holding the door open for
somebody, I always strive to be the best person I possibly can. Another big part of developing a
good character is uplifting others. Being a three sport athlete, I am always surrounded by people
who are trying their hardest to improve upon themselves, so I always strive to cheer on my
teammates and act as an outlet for them to voice their disappointment to and provide support and
encouragement to.
This organization provides countless opportunities to members, so I would be very
grateful for the opportunity to join and display my commitment. If accepted, I would hope to
contribute to the chapter positively by first attending all meetings and ceremonies, establishing
that I understand the privilege this organization is. Once I have the opportunity to experience my
first year as a National Honor Society member, I would hope to demonstrate to younger students
the values this organization upholds and encourage them to join as well.

In all, I know how impactful this organization is, helping students better harness their
strengths for the betterment of the community, which is why I want to be a member of the
National Honor Society. I feel I have an in-depth understanding of the four pillars that guide this
organization, scholarship, service, leadership, and character, and hope to have the privilege of
representing this organization.
