Author: Karen Tellez – Eliana Culture: France Title: France and its traditions
Nupan
Characters:
• Juana de Arco - (Acted by Karen Tellez and Eliana Nupan)
The scenes take place in a room, where Joan of Arc, now dead, tells us her story, the customs,
traditions, and culture of France, to let us know why France is so important and why we should
visit this beautiful country.
Scene 1
Juana de Arco: Hello everyone. I am Joan of Arc, also known as Jeanne d'Arc in French,
was a pivotal historical figure in French history during the Hundred Years
War between France and England. I was born in Domrémy, France, in
1412, and my story begins when I began to receive divine visions
ordering me to free France from English domination.

In 1429, at the age of seventeen, I convinced the French heir, the

Dauphin Charles (later Charles VII), to allow me to lead an army to lift
the siege of Orleans, a strategic city that was under English control. My
leadership in the battle resulted in a crucial victory for the French and
elevated my status nationally.
I led the Dauphin to Reims, where he was crowned Charles VII, king of
France, in 1429. This reinforced the legitimacy of his rule and marked a
turn in the war in favor of the French.

However, in 1430, I was captured by the Burgundians, allies of the

English, and subsequently handed over to the English. I was tried for
heresy and witchcraft by an English ecclesiastical court and sentenced to
death. I was burned at the stake in Rouen on May 30, 1431, at the age of
nineteen.

I want you to know that the importance of my existence lies in my role in

unifying and motivating the French people during a critical period in
their history. My bravery, leadership and religious devotion made me a
national symbol and an icon of the French resistance. I was canonized as
a saint by the Catholic Church in 1920, and my legacy has endured
through the centuries, inspiring subsequent generations of French people
and people around the world.
Scene 2
Juana de Arco: But I won't bore you any longer with my story. I will tell you why my
country is a beautiful place for you to visit or live there, so to start, I
want to talk about the most famous tower in the world: The Eiffel Tower.
Well, The Eiffel Tower is an iconic symbol of Paris, France, designed by
Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 World's Fair. Built in just two years, it
became the tallest structure in the world at the time. Despite initial
criticism, it has become a tourist landmark and a symbol of modern
engineering and technological progress. Over the years, it has stood the
test of time and has become a lasting emblem of the city of Paris and of
France. If you're wondering why I know her if I died many years ago,
remember that I'm a ghost and I can see everything.
Scene 3
Juana de Arco: If you want to visit France for its Eiffel Tower, wait until I tell you about
its famous and rich culinary culture and its impressive tourist
destinations. Some of the most notable tourist spots include, apart from
the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Palace of Versailles, the picturesque region
of Provence, the Côte d'Azur, and the French Alps. And remember to
visit the museums! If you go to France and don't visit them, you should
seriously rethink your existence.

As for typical food, French gastronomy is world-renowned for its

sophistication and variety. Some iconic dishes include croissant,
camembert cheese, foie gras, onion soup, boeuf bourguignon, ratatouille,
crème brûlée and macarons. Additionally, France is known for its fine
wines, such as Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne, which perfectly
complement its delicious meals.
Scene 4
Juana de Arco: Thus, French culture is also recognized worldwide for its historical,
artistic, and linguistic richness, among other areas. For example, its
cultural legacy spans from prehistory to the present day, with a
significant influence on artistic movements such as the Renaissance, the
Baroque, Romanticism, among others. Additionally, France has produced
some of the greatest writers and philosophers in history, such as Voltaire,
Rousseau, Molière, Victor Hugo, and Albert Camus, whose works have
had a lasting impact on world culture and contributed to the development
of human thought.

Let's not leave fashion and style aside, as this beautiful country is
recognized as the fashion capital of the world, with iconic brands such as
Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes, which have influenced global
fashion for decades. Parisian elegance and style are admired and
emulated around the world. And finally, the French language is one of
the most spoken languages in the world and is considered a language of
culture and diplomacy. It is the official language in numerous
international organizations, such as the UN, UNESCO, and the
International Olympic Committee, which reflects its importance on a
global level.
Scene 5
Juana de Arco: Well, I think I have already told you many things about my history and
that of my country, its tourist places, and its typical food, so I hope to see
you there soon. I, meanwhile, will disappear to visit other countries. I'm
lucky to be a ghost because I can visit any place I want! Remember to be
brave like I was and fight for your beliefs regardless of others. You will
go very far this way. Bye bye.
