2. Select cell B9 and type =A2+A3+A4+A5+A6. The cells included in your formula
are color coded to match the color of the cell reference in the formula (as shown
in this graphic). Press Enter, and Excel enters the result of the formula (75) in the
cell

3. Select cell C9 and follow these steps:

Type =.
Click cell A2.
Type +.
Click cell A3.
Type +.
Click cell A4.
Type +.
Click cell A5.
Type +.
Click cell A6.
Press Enter.
You get the same result as you did when you manually typed in the cell
references.
4. In cell B10, type =a4-a3 and press Enter.
Note that you don’t have to capitalize the column identifiers in a cell
reference within a formula; Excel will recognize them as cell addresses and
uppercase them for you.
5. The result of this subtraction formula shows as 5. Select cell B10 again and look
at the Formula bar. Even though what you see in the cell is 5, what Excel sees is
the actual formula, as shown in the Formula bar.
6. Select cell C10, type =15-10, and press Enter. Note that the result is the same as
in cell B10. Change the value in cell A4 to 20 and press Enter. Notice the result of
the formulas in cells B9, C9, and B10 all changed because they all reference the
cell you changed. Click the Undo button to revert cell A4 back to 15.
7. In cell B11, type =, then click cell A2. Type *20 and press Enter. The result is 100.
8. In cell B12, type =a6/a1 and press Enter. You get an error in the cell that says
#VALUE!.
This is because cell A1 does not have a number in it, so Excel cannot
perform the calculation. Select cell B12 again; then, in the Formula bar,
change A1 to A2 and press Enter. The error disappears and the result is 5.
