READING COMPREHENSION

1. The magazine Variety made an inquiry about teenagers’ tastes in music in 2016. FALSE

Variety has been confronting its readers with that fact since 2016. That year, it

published a survey of 13–19-year-olds in the US asking about the celebrities that have a

real influence in them. The survey showed that YouTubers were more influential than

actors or musicians.

2. One of the reasons why YouTube stars are so popular is because they seem normal

people. TRUE

One of the key things to understand about the popularity of YouTubers is that they look

like ordinary people and this is what makes them so appealing.

3. Many YouTube stars have changed the way they talk to people after the success of

their first videos. FALSE

By necessity, an early YouTube video started out as a format with a person talking into a

webcam, often close to the camera and filming in their bedroom. It created a sense of

intimacy, and one that many YouTube stars have tried to maintain even as they got

better cameras and equipment.

4. The content of the videos is the only reason for Youtubers’ success. FALSE

The key thing to understand about YouTube stars is that the content of their videos –

whether it’s Let’s Play game commentaries, makeup tutorials or just their thoughts– is

only one half of their appeal and the connection to their audiences is the other: they have

grown up with the tools to create and strengthen that connection, and many will use that

as their anchor to keep their feet on the ground.

IV. COMPOSITION (3 POINTS)

Write a composition of at least 125 words on the following topic:

Youtubers don’t do a real job, so they shouldn’t receive money for their videos.

In this generation Z, the YouTube platform was created to create content for all

audiences. There is some friction with people's thinking that the work of

YouTubers should not be paid. why does this happen? Let's find out.

In the beginning of this application, the videos were simply for entertainment,

leisure, educational purposes, etc. Throughout the development of YouTube, they

have been used for other purposes, such as for video games, interviews,

including the previous purposes. YouTubers were becoming more important in

the world of the market, so they began to pay them for their videos.

The revolt on this issue is that there are people who have low-paid jobs, people

who have not had access to education and had to go to work, and YouTubers earn

more money than those work-disadvantaged people. A part of the population

thinks that YouTubers don't really work, and only make a living from that.

Most young people, upon seeing the originality of the videos and the

remuneration, also want to be YouTubers. 33.2% of teenagers in Spain want to

dedicate themselves to creating content on the internet. This percentage is very

high, and workers complain about this platform because of the remuneration of

YouTubers.

When everything is said and done, I think that YouTube is a platform that engages

and that is why I don't like it at all. Youtubers should not be paid because there

are other people, for example, people who harvest grapes and go to work in

countries other than their home, earn much less than Youtubers.

In conclusion this application should be restructured better.
