LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS V

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, 85% of the pupils are expected to:
a. solve routine problem involving the area of a circle,
b. demonstrate mastery in calculating the area of the circle; and
c. appreciate the importance of finding the area of a circle.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Solving Routine Problems Involving the Area of a Circle
Reference: Villamayor, Adele C., Amelia d. Celeridad-Wrigh, and Eden C. de
Joya. 2015. Math for Life, Manila: Rex publishing, pp.278-279.
Materials: slide show.
Values integration: Team work and perseverance
Skill development: problem solving
III. Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Greetings
2. Attendance
3. Reminders and Setting of Rules
B. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill
The teacher asks the class to solve for the following area of a circle.

Radius – 4cm
Radius – 2cm

2. Review:
The teacher reviews the previous lesson.

Radius – half of the diameter

Diameter – 2 radius
Formula in finding the are of a circle – πr2
Π – 3.14
r2 – radius multiplied to itself
3. Motivation
The teacher asks the pupils what are the different things or food with a circle
shape they can see in their daily lives.

Questions:

1. Are does things important?

2. Are those food is one of your favorites?
3. What if circle is not present, would our world be convenient as it is today?

4. Reading the lesson objectives

C. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation:
The teacher presents a problem in the class and shows them how to solve
routine problem involving the area of a circle.

Chef Ramsey receives an order to make a ham-and-cheese pizza. The tomato

sauce left is enough to cover the pizza dough, which has a diameter of 30 cm.
what is the area of the pizza to be made?
1. Understand
The teacher asks:
1. What is asked in the problem?
 Find the area of the pizza to be made
2. What are the given facts?
 The diameter of the pizza dough is 30 cm.
2. Plan
The teacher presents the facts:

 Since the diameter of the circle is 30 cm, and half of a

diameter is radius: hence, 30/2 or 15 is the radius.
 The formula on finding the area of a circle is πr2.
Therefore, we can now solve for the area of a circle.
3. Solve and check
r = 15cm
A= πr2
= (3.14)(15cm)2
= (3.14)(225cm2)
= 706.5 cm2
4. Complete answer

The teacher presents the complete answer in the class.

The area of the pizza to be made is 706.5 cm 2 . The sauce will be enough to cover the entire
pizza.
2. Performing the Activity
The teacher divides the class into 2 and gives activity for them to solve.
 A goat is tied to a peg using a 2m rope. How large is the area within which the goat can
roam and eat grass.
The teacher asks to solve the problem using the formulated steps.
3. Processing the Activities:
The teacher lets each group present their outputs in the class and rates them
using the rubrics below.

Cooperation and participation 5 points

Group discipline 5 points
Correctness of the answer 10 points
Group presentation 5 points
TOTAL 25 POINTS

Analysis:
The teacher asks the pupils:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. Is the activity applicable in individual’s life?
3. What value is developed in performing the activity?

4. Summarizing the Lesson

The teacher summarize the lesson.
 Diameter- a line segment which passes through the center of a circle whose end
points are on the circle. 2radius.
 The radius is ½ of the diameter.
 Formula on solving the area of circle: πr2
 Π = 3.14
 r2 = radius times itself
note: in finding the area of the circle always look for its radius.

D. Application:
The teacher asks the pupils to find their pair and solve for the following
problems.

Solve for the area of the circle using the following radii. show your solution.
Princess celebrated her birthday last April 9,2024. Among the food her mother prepared where
fried chicken, roasted pork, spaghetti and a circular cake with a diameter of 20cm. find the area
of Princess’s birthday cake?
IV. Evaluation:
The teacher asks the pupils to answer the following problem individually and show
their solution.
Blade’s mother brought him a mountain bike for him to ride going to school
everyday. One feature of the bike that will attracts everybody’s attentions is its
wheels huge size with a radius of 100cm. Find the area of Blade’s mountain bike
wheel.
V. Assignment:
Research what does non routine problem means.
