A pleasant morning to each and everyone.

Today, I am going to fill your minds some

information about a certain issue which is still very rampant not just here in our country but in
the whole wide world, the Coronavirus disease 2019.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is a contagious disease caused by severe acute
respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first case was identified in Wuhan,
China in December of 2019 and continuously getting higher each passing day.
The virus is thought to be natural and has an animal origin, through spillover infection.
The first known human infections were in Wuhan, Hubei, China which were about 41 people.
Human-to-human transmission was confirmed by the World Health Organization and Chinese
authorities. According to official Chinese sources, these were mostly linked to the Huanan
Seafood Wholesale Market, which also sold live animals. In May 2020, George Gao, the director
of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said animal samples collected from
the seafood market had tested negative for the virus. Traces of the virus have been found in
wastewater that was collected from Milan and Turin, Italy, on December 18, 2019.
Covid-19 spreads via a number of means, primarily saliva and other bodily fluids and
excretions. These fluids can form small droplets and aerosols, which can spread as an infected
person breaths, coughs, sneezes, sings or speaks. The virus may also spread via contaminated
surfaces and direct contact.
Symptoms of Covid-19 usually includes fever, cough, fatigue and shortness of breath.
People with the same infection may have different symptoms and may change over time. Loss of
taste and loss of smell is also associated with Covid-19 with a specificity of 95%.
A person infected with this virus can be either Symptomatic or Asymptomatic. Most
symptomatic patients experience symptoms within two to seven days after exposure, and almost
all symptomatic people will experience one or more symptoms before day twelve. Asymptomatic
carriers on the other hand tend not to get tested, and they can spread the disease. Other infected
people will develop symptoms later or have very mild symptoms, and can also spread the virus.
The World Health Organization has published several testing protocols for this disease.
The standard method of testing is Real-Time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction
or the RT-PCR test. The test is typically done on respiratory samples obtained by a
nasopharyngeal swab. Results are generally available within a few hours or days. Blood tests can
be used, but these require two blood samples and the results have little immediate value.
As of today, November 28, 2020, according to WHO, there are more than 428,000
confirmed cases of Covid-19 here in the Philippines. More than 388,000 already recovered from
this and 8,333 deaths have been recorded today. Metro Manila is still on the top place with the
most number of confirmed Covid-19 cases with more than 195,000 cases. Worldwide, we
already have more than 61,700,000 confirmed cases. More than 39,500,000 have been recovered
and more than 1,440,000 deaths have been recorded. USA is still the leading country with more
than 13,200,000 confirmed cases and more than 265,000 deaths. India, Brazil, Russia and France
are also on the top 5 list of countries with the most Covid-19 cases while Philippines is placed on
the 27th spot.
Since there is still no confirmed Covid vaccine as of now, we must protect ourselves and
others by knowing the facts and taking appropriate precautions. We must also follow advice
provided by our local health authority.
To prevent the spread of Covid-19, we must clean our hands often. Use soap and water or
an alcohol-based hand rub. Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Wear a mask and face shield when physical distancing is not possible. Don’t touch your mouth,
eyes and nose especially when your outside as the virus can enter through them. Cover your nose
and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Stay home if you feel
unwell and if you have fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical attention. In this
simple ways, it will protect you and prevents the spread of viruses and other infections.
I hope that you have learned something through this briefing. Stay safe, wear your masks
and always pray that this pandemic will end as soon as possible. Have a nice day ahead
everyone.
