pieces of trash on the floor.

B. MOTIVATION

In the previous lesson, you

learned two ways of extracting
information from text: by
summarizing and precis writing.
Today we are learning another
way of extracting information.
Now I have here a text. What you
will do is read it and afterwards
arrange the scrambled words into
a sentence to form a paraphrase
of it.

Who wants to try to arrange the

scrambled words on the board? Original Text

never sleeps. At night, people can be
assured that something is going on no
matter what the time.

(The student tried to arrange the

scramble words on the board to make a
sentence)
Perfect! That’s what we call
paraphrasing. In New York, there is something to do at
all hours of the night.
C. DISCUSSION
What did we do to paraphrase the
text? Ma’am, we read the text and then we
thought of other ways to say the

understand the message.
Yes of course that will and will
always be the number 1 step just
like also in summarizing and
paraphrasing.

Next, let’s go to rule number 2. It’s

your turn to read Carl. Ma’am our rule number two says, to set

repeating what your friend says.
For example, Rica says “I was
angry with my boyfriend he makes
me jealous.”
Then accidentally you heard what
Rica say and you decided to share
what you heard with your friend,
now the question is how do you
tell what you heard? How do you
share what you heard? Right? You
would probably say “Do you know
what Rica says she said that she’s
upset with his boyfriend because
his boyfriend makes him jealous”

That’s what we call paraphrasing

what Rica says and the
paraphrase we make?

Brilliant! You have a keen eye.

Now let’s go to the third guideline.

Ma’am our third guideline is, to use
some synonyms to express the same
idea.

some synonyms of words. Okay?

Therefore, let’s proceed to the last

guideline what does it say? Ma’am, it says here that, after you have
written your paraphrase, go back to the
original and check if you have missed or
misstated any idea.
Of course, just like also in

though you restate it in your own
words. So, it’s important to have a
full understanding, so that the
news would not turn into fake
news and that the news you
deliver is credible or legit right?

Now, do you have a full

Okay, let’s scrutinize these two

examples. Kindly read the first
example.

way, what is the word that we use

Absolutely! How about the word

include?

That’s it that’s how we

paraphrase, we use the synonyms
of words. However, if there are no
synonyms for the word then you
must retain it. It’s not a
paraphrase if you don’t use your
own words to restate what was
written or said.
