Lesson Problems Involving Volume of a
1 Cube and Rectangular
Prism in Real-Life Situations
A swimming pool has a length of 6 meters, a width of 3 meters, and a height of 2
meters. How much water is needed to fill the swimming pool?

Solution 1: Using Model

2m

3m

6m

If you count the number of cubes in the figure, there are 36 cubes. (Note: Some cubes
cannot be seen from the outside.) Therefore, 36m³ of water is needed to fill the swimming
pool.

Solution 2: Using the 4-Step Plan in Solving the Problem

1
1. Understand
a. Know what is asked. a. The amount of water needed to fill the
b. Know the given facts. swimming pool
b. 6m long; 3m wide; 2m high
2. Plan V=lxwxh
Determine the operation or formula to use.
3. Solve V=lxwxh
= 6m x 3m x 2m
= 18m² x 2
V = 36m³

4. Check and Look Back Use inverse operation.

Verify if the answer is correct. 36 ÷ 2 = 18
18 ÷ 3 = 6

The answer is correct.
