INTRODUCTION
Bureau Veritas Solutions M&O SAS (BVS) has been contacted by OHC SHIPMANAGEMENT PTE LTD
to provide an EEXI calculation for the vessel BAYAN.
The attained EEXI of BAYAN is here calculated by BVS, based on the guidelines MEPC 78 (March 31st
2022).
This Technical File encompasses the calculation of the attained EEXI, based on the following formula.
The attained EEXI of the vessel is compared with the required EEXI which is provided by IMO and based
on EEDI required values with some adaptations.

Table 1-1: General Information Data
* The SFC at 75 % of the MCRME was taken non ISO from an E3 test.
2 / Power Curve
To calculate an EEXI, a reference velocity corresponding to the capacity (=deadweight for tankers) of
the vessel must be defined, along with a summer draught. For BAYAN, it corresponds to 3850.3 t
deadweight and to a 5.599 m draught.
But as the obtained speed-power curve given in the sea trials report are not specified to be at summer
draught, BVS calculated the approximated reference velocity Vref, app as developed in IMO guidelines
(MEPC 78).
In case where the speed-power curve is not available or the sea trial report does not contain EEDI
draught condition, the ship speed Vref can be approximated by Vref, app to be obtained from statistical
mean of distribution of ship speed and engine power, as defined below:
1
∑ 𝑃𝑃𝑀𝑀𝑀𝑀 3
𝑉𝑉𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟,𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎 = 𝑉𝑉𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟,𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎 − 𝑚𝑚𝑉𝑉 × [knot]
0.75 × 𝑀𝑀𝑀𝑀𝑀𝑀𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎
■ Vref, avg is a statistical mean of distribution of ship speed in given ship type and ship size, to be
calculated as follows:
𝑉𝑉𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟𝑟,𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎 = 𝐴𝐴 × 𝐵𝐵𝐶𝐶
where
A, B and C are the parameters given in the appendix of MEPC 350(78);
■ PME is calculated and based on the power of the main engine; and
■ MCRavg is a statistical mean of distribution of MCRs for main engines and MPPavg is a statistical
mean of distribution of MPPs for motors in given ship type and ship size, to be calculated as
follows:
The following tables are extracted from the appendix of MEPC 350(78).
Ship Type A B C
Tanker 8.1358 DWT 0.05383
Table 2-1: A, B And C Parameters for Vref,app Calculation
Ship Type D E F
Tanker 22.8415 DWT 0.55826
Table 2-2: D, E And F Parameters for Vref,app Calculation
► Vref,avg = A x BC = 12.69 kn
► mv = 0.63 kn
► PME = 1 242 kW
► MCRavg = D x EF = 2 293 kW

► Where Y is the reduction factor specified in Table 7-2 for the required EEXI compared to the EEDI
reference line.
* Reduction factor to be linearly interpolated between the two values dependent upon vessel size. The
lower value of the reduction factor is to be applied to the smaller ship size.
Tankers with less than 4 000 DWT do not have a Required EEXI.
