Introduction
Concept artists produce the illustrations that help production designers realize their vision for films, television and computer games. They also work in sci-fi, fantasy, or historical films/projects where visual and special effects are required to create design spectacles, or fantastical creatures, or other invented elements. My job is to create 3 fully complete concept paintings relating to extracts featured in the book. When I picked my piece of paper saying Paper 2 I was quite skeptical about what film/book I would have but when I found out that it was A journey to the centre of the Earth, I was quite excited to start. I watched the film before and absolutely loved it, so I really wanted to do Get into it and capture the shear

beauty featured in this story.

Getting Started
Firstly, I started to create a few sketches just showing different points of perspective. I then imported pictures and painted them in Photoshop, I wanted to experiment with the different techniques and styles in all of my sketches. I made a couple of influence maps showing pictures of caves, crystals, diamonds, lava, film inspirations and concept paintings relating to my film/ extracts of text.

Understanding Perspective & Space

I created perspective drawings before in college, but I never really concentrated on it as much as I have now. Ive actually quite enjoyed playing with different and original angles and also combining different media to create really great technical pieces. Here are just a few that Ive done already:

Coming up with some Designs

My story has a lot of prehistoric features, all of which I will look forward to doing. The 3 extracts in the book made me visualize what the world being described, will be like. I have a much better understanding of what I have to do now. First of all I have created another 3 influence maps; one for each extract. With these, it will help me when I am ready to create my first pieces.

Essay Introduction
Concept art is a form of illustration where the main goal is to create new, inventive, original designs, ideas. Most of which is used fin films, video games, animation or comic books. Without concept artists, film director would not succeed in creating their ideas on paper and therefore, no films will be made. In this essay I will explain about all the techniques that concept artists used to create a film like Tron Legacy. I will also talk about elements like lighting, composition and visual effects featured in the film and how much importance a concept artist has when in a big budget film.
