The indicators in 2020 are stark; 1 in 7 people still go hungry every day and 1.2 billion people do not
have access to clean drinking water. We please ask families to consider the foods their child brings to
school, and to avoid nut products in lunchboxes. This year, I hope students come to appreciate the
wonderful people in their lives; their friends, their teachers, and most importantly, their families.
Much of the work was done by voluntary labour by the College community. It has recently gone
through a major upgrade, which has seen the pool become heated for all year round use. Over 200
students fasted to promote the work of Caritas and to raise money for Project Compassion.
Additionally, Marist Youth Mentor and other teaching staff will be available to meet with students
and help as required. Lisa Fogliani, Vice Principal, will assume associated responsibilities during
Term 4. The Homework Club is supervised by Ms Natelee Calegari and Ms Carolyn O’Connor on
Monday and Tuesday with a literacy focus while Ms Sarah Pagett supervises on Wednesdays with a
numeracy focus. Supporting these programs will be learning spaces that reflect our strategic intent as
exemplified in the development of our new Learning Hub (due for completion December 2020). I
am confident that most of our community members are welcoming the much-needed rest, relaxation
of routine and time with family and friends. Thank you to our Performing Arts Teacher, Mrs Amy
Raveendrakumar, for her efforts in preparing the students for this performance. There are a wide
range of ways students with exceptional academic potential or talent in a particular area are
supported and challenged to help them develop their gifts and talents. This has been showcased by
our commitment to Outdoor Education, the Arts and events that celebrate each year group and each
student; from Year 6 Camp to the Year 11 Dinner Dance. This is an interactive learning space,
representing the modern library. They are also encouraged to navigate their own learning. Our
commitment forthwith is to create an awareness, to tell their story and imbue in all of us to share
their plight; moreover the aspirations and dreams of these young Filipino children. Students, teachers

vision by their active participation in community building activities such as Kicks for Kuya, Phun

around gathering as a community, students in PK-12 were able to celebrate the Easter story at
reformatted liturgies, which included online presentations and small class gatherings. Our ministry at
Newman College seeks to form our young people to be transformative in the world in which they
live. The children were incredible in their animation, empathy and solidarity, particularly on the
impact of water projects in communities. The purpose of the meeting was to seek feedback on what
we do at Newman College and how the voice of our community will be used as part of a wider
consultation to develop a policy for schools across WA. I look forward to working with the students
in 2019 and helping them get the most out of their time during their Secondary School years. The
magpies’ sweet song echoes from the eucalyptus trees as the sun’s rays cascade gently across the
landscape. RP is a post school educational institution that seeks to nurture innovative, entrepreneurial
and cultured professionals. Wellbeing is about promoting a better way of life and equality for

We are a member of Catholic Education Commission Western Australia (CECWA) and as such
receive our Federal and State funding as a group member of CECWA. Thank-you to Mrs MacBean

founder of DARTA and he is passionate about ensuring that the community has access to accurate
and up-to-date alcohol and other drug information. It has been designed to develop key life skills to
help students cope with challenges in school and beyond. Should a place be sought, parents are

our Staff. The venue comprises a fully serviced bar, toilets, airconditioning, wheel chair access and a
weather-proof balcony overlooking the Colleges spectacular playing fields. I challenge all our
students to take the opportunities that are presented across PK-12. Many of the courses at Newman
are developed in consultation with employers to ensure the course content is relevant and provides
transferable skills valued by graduate employers. The Minister unpacked this with our students who

identified as having exceptional academic ability. Therefore, we raise awareness of issues connected

badmington. Whilst not at retreat, students will participate in a school based program designed to
support the achievement of academic goals. Our Mini-Marists and Gamechangers students will be
joining St Dominic’s and Our Lady of Good Counsel to pack the food hampers. I trust that our
families have enjoyed their well-earned break and are looking forward to the season of Advent with
great anticipation, as Christmas will be upon us before we know it. Our College Counsellors and
Leaders of Wellbeing can also provide guidance, support and advice. Our SHINE Program for
students in Pre Primary to Year 10 delivers educational experiences of an appropriate depth and
breadth for students identified as having exceptional academic ability. Events held during school
hours AND outside of school hours that are associated with the College are also supported by the
Code of Conduct. Learning attributes provide families and students with an insight into how
students apply themselves to their learning and the classroom environment. Such opportunities were
exemplified over Term 3 when we had students participating on the Arts Tour to New York and
another on the Humanities Tour to Sydney and Canberra. Student’s progress, suitability, and
readiness for the various stages of the programs is reviewed regularly. The eSafety Commissioner
website is an excellent resource for families and young people, designed to assist in establishing
positive online habits. We look forward to the journey ahead of us with our new student leaders at
the helm. The Code is mandated by Catholic Education Western Australia and the application of the
code extends to all staff, students, parents, guardians, caregivers, and volunteers. During class
students were introduced to Aboriginal art and the story of Stuart McMinn who crossed the bridge
as a 15 year old boy. By bringing together multiple information sources into one easy-to-use
Learning Management System, SEQTA liberates teachers from labour-intensive, disparate and
fragmented software or paper-based systems. Furthermore, SEQTA allows you to remain involved in
your child’s education in an informative but non confrontational manner. This ensures that each and
every child has the ability to excel in whatever pursuits they are passionate about. Our partnership
and this learning immersion aims to foster and challenge our students and staff to be resilient, global
thinkers; students who are agile, collaborative and embracing of the demands of the 21st Century.
Families of the Collee should note that sibling enrolments are prioritised. And because celebration
can motivate a child’s learning and achievement we promote authentic recognition of a child’s effort
or accomplishment. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and enjoyment on display. Council
members provide credible advise having been selected from a vast cross section of the community.
Parents are also reminded that there are teachers on duty until 3.30pm each afternoon, so if you want
to miss the traffic and collect your child at 3.25pm you are more than welcome. If you have any

your child’s teacher. It is very pleasing to see that the vast majority of students adhere to the Uniform
Policy and Requirements and present themselves well. Parents are strongly encouraged to speak with
their child discouraging the sharing of food with others. It has been designed to develop key life
skills to help students cope with challenges in school and beyond. I have been very excited by what I

learning programs are increasingly differentiated and individualised. All Year 7-10 students swim for
the duration of Term 1 approximately 22-27 lessons. In difficult situations we seek to work with
understanding, kindness and resilience. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students
and their parents for helping in this area. In the SHINE program students are encouraged to solve,
hypothesise, investigate problems, concepts, or topics. Study structure: easy to hard subjects, or work
to the one you like. They recited poems they have been learning and finished with a song. These
include the Guild Swimming Carnival, NAS Swim Meet and designated trial training days. You can

and Development Agency of the Catholic Church. This week saw students from the Lavalla and
Marcellin Campuses celebrate the Feast of St Marcellin Champagnat. I continue to encourage
students to ensure their dress standards meet with the College’s expectations throughout the year. An
example of this has been this school’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Kuya Centre for street
children in the Philippines. I challenge all our students to take the opportunities that are presented
across PK-12. If you wish to attend, you just need to let your child’s teacher know. The purpose of
this program is to enrich student’s learning. To this end, our work with teachers to build their
individual capacity as professionals, aligning our practices, and to grow the students’ learning
experience is our intent. The encounters we had over this short time were impactful and
overwhelming; and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have joined Marists from around
the country on this remarkable experience.

Green class led a beautiful reflection and prayer that raised the importance of water projects in
developing countries. Such opportunities were exemplified over Term 3 when we had students

the commencement of Term 1 2021. These inputs include, but are not limited to, formative and
summative assessment, observations and running records. We are especially in need of bags of dry
fruits and nuts. The pool was named in honour of Frank Ehlers who was the mainstay in supervising
the building of the pool in 1975. Whilst not at retreat, students will participate in a school based
program designed to support the achievement of academic goals. This Centre supports homeless
children by providing education, training, advocacy, legal aid and shelter. Therefore, we raise
awareness of issues connected to self-worth by creating a positive physical, mental and spiritual
