What is meant by pulse pressure? What happened to the pulse pressure during exercise? Was this what you 1 pts
expected to happen?

Pulse pressure is the difference between the upper and lower numbers of the blood pressure. The pulse pressure
during exercise increased from rest, 40 mmHg to 90 mmHg. We expected this to happen.
What happened to the mean arterial blood pressure during exercise? Briefly explain your findings. 1 pts

From rest, 93,20 mmHg it increased to 89,70 mmHg during exercise. More blood is required by the working muscles,
therefore there is an increase in heart rate.

What is the effect of exercise on blood pressure? 1 pts

Exercise initially increases blood pressure, due to the constriction of the blood vessels. As one takes part in regular
exercise, this makes the heart stronger and therefore lowers blood pressure.

What happened to the RR interval and the heart rate during recovery? 1 pts

The longer the recovery time the more heart rate decreases and RR interval increases until they eventually reach
resting heart rate levels.

The RR interval consists of the sum of QRS, ST, TP, and PR periods. Which one of these intervals became 1 pts
appreciably shorter when the heart rate increased? What is the physiological significance of your
observation?

The RR interval during exercise became shorter when the heart rate increased. This is because there is an increase in
sympathetic activity and parasympathetic activity.

What is the effect of exercise on the heart rate. Explain your answer using your physiological understanding. 1 pts

During exercise there is an increase in cardiac stroke volume and heart rate raise the cardiac output. Which coupled
with transient increase in systemic vascular resistance elevates mean arterial blood pressure.
