8F35 Transmission - Illuminated MIL With DTC P0766 08 July 2019

Issue: Some 2019 Edge/Nautilus/Transit Connect vehicles equipped with a 8F35 transmission may exhibit an
illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0766 stored in the powertrain
control module (PCM) and/or intermittent or delayed reverse engagement concerns. This may be due to
contamination in the main control valve body separator plate orifice. To correct the condition, follow the Service
Procedure steps to clean the contamination from the main control separator plate.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all the following
criteria:

• 2019 Edge/Nautilus/Transit Connect


• 8F35 transmission
• DTC P0766 and/or intermittent reverse engagement concerns only

Service Procedure
1. Remove the main control valve body. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.
2. Remove the main control separator plate. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.
3. Clean and remove any debris from the separator plate orifice. (Figure 1)

4. Reinstall the main control valve body. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.
