COURSE OUTLINE
1. CLASS SCHEDULE

Program: MBA
Class: Thursdays Fridays, 6.30 pm – 9.30 pm.

2. BACKGROUND

This course provides a study of a number of areas of law affecting the conduct of business
today. An extensive analysis of the law of contracts will be emphasized due to its
importance in the conduct of business. The course will provide the student a practical
understanding of how the law operates and the legal rights and responsibilities of parties
involved in a transaction.

Now, the question is why should we study business law? To ensure effective day-to-day
functioning of business enterprises engaged in trading, commercial or industrial activity,
the managers are required to have knowledge of relevant laws which are associated with
the business operations. Therefore, this course is designed to give the students a thorough
idea about the various laws relating to business and industry. The business laws that will
be mainly covered in this course are laws of contract, the laws relating to sale of goods, law
of partnership, Labour Law and the company law.

3. COURSE OBJECTIVES

 To improve your ability to recognize and manage legal risks in business decision
making.
 To assist you in making more ethical decisions, individuallyand as an organization.

1
 To introduce you to legal processes and substantive legal topics affecting business,
including employment relationships, business formation, international law, contracts, etc.
 To encourage critical thinking in order to examine all sides of a discussion.
 To enhance students’ analytical skills and refine their skills in evaluating secondary
sources.
 To stimulate and improve student’s articulate oral expression.
 To research primary documents and various sources of information.

6. STUDENT EVALUATION

I expect that the workload will be accomplished with excellence. Students should reserve
some time each day for study of the textbook and related outside readings such as case
laws. They should come prepared each class to discuss major points covered and relate their
ideas on the topic(s).

Consistent attendance is essential for good educational progress and consistent work
attendance isessential for good job performance. Missing class will quickly put the students
behind.

Students will have minimum FOUR QUIZZES/CLASS TESTS during the class. There will
be ONE MID-TERM EXAM and ONE FINAL EXAM according to the rule of Bangladesh
University of Professionals (BUP).

A good way to study for the exams is to study the objectives and key terms/sections of law
at the beginning of each session, answer the discussion questions at the end of each session,
and relate this material to both assigned and current readings. Students will have several
assignments during the term. Students will be graded on content, presentation style, use of
references, and neatness. In some cases, it is possible for more than one person to work
together on a project. The instructor must approve all topics in advance.
