HCM FUNDAMENTALS DURATION

32 HOURS (4 DAYS)
DESCRIPTION

This four-day course is for functional leads and administrators TRAINING CREDITS
who manage basic events and tasks in Workday Human Capital 4
Management (HCM). In this course, you will learn Workday
HCM concepts including the basics of compensation,
configurable security, business processes, and Workday Report Writer. By completing this
course, you will be able to configure and maintain basic supervisory organizations, staffing
models, and job profiles. You will also be able to perform common Workday HCM transactions
to better understand the configuration needs of the day-to-day activities within your business.
This course is for customers deploying Workday HCM or administrating the core Workday HCM
application. While customers who are in production will find this class useful for new users, this
course focuses on HCM administration, not transactions. Users who perform HCM transactions
should attend the HCM Transactions course.

Workday Pro: This course fulfills a requirement for one or more Workday Pro tracks. To learn

This course is approved for 13 Recertification Credit Hours (RCH) with the American Payroll
Association (APA).

PRETRAINING CONSIDERATIONS

To successfully complete this course, you will need a general understanding of basic HR
concepts and processes. No previous knowledge of Workday is required, but it would be helpful
to have a working knowledge of Workday core concepts, including navigation, organizations,
business processes, and reporting, prior to attending this course to enhance your learning.
Enroll in Workday Core Concepts for an introduction to these topics or Workday Foundations for
an in-depth overview.

1: Navigation and Finding Data

• Describe the Workday object management model and the use of business objects.
• Navigate in Workday using basic search and navigation techniques.
• Describe the high-level reporting capabilities in Workday.
• Locate and run standard HCM reports.
• Recognize language and translation considerations.

2: Workday HCM Core Concepts

• Describe the six core Workday HCM concepts and explain the role they play in
processing common staffing transactions in Workday.
• Recognize that functional areas, domains, and business processes are integral to the
Workday HCM system.

3: Supervisory Organizations

• Summarize the purpose of supervisory organizations in Workday HCM.


• Describe the required attributes of supervisory organizations.
• Create a new location.
• Demonstrate and explain role assignment and inheritance for supervisory organizations.

4: Staffing Models

• Summarize the differences between position management and job management staffing
models.
• Explain hiring restrictions and where they are set for each staffing model.
• Assess use cases for when and why to use staffing models based on business
requirements.
• Recognize the impacts of changing a staffing model.
• Assign a staffing model to a supervisory organization.

5: Additional Organizations

• Navigate common organization types, including company, cost center, and region.
• Identify the purpose of organization hierarchies.
• Demonstrate how to include organizations within hierarchies.
• Describe why reorganization events are essential to managing organization changes.
• Configure and explain the purpose of allowed and default organization assignments.

6: Job Profiles

• Explain the attributes and touchpoints of a job profile.


• Discuss job catalog and job profile design decisions.
• Describe job family groups and job families.
• Create a new job profile.

7: Compensation

• Describe the components of the basic compensation structure, including packages,


grades, plans, and eligibility rules, and how they relate to each other.
• Demonstrate how to use compensation eligibility rules to default compensation.
• Locate and review compensation grades, grade profiles, and plans.
• Create a compensation allowance plan and explain its attributes.
• Edit a compensation package to include compensation components.

8: Prepare for Staffing

• Create positions with hiring restrictions in position management-enabled supervisory


organizations.
• Set hiring restrictions on job management-enabled supervisory organizations.
• Locate and manage events using rescind, cancel, and correct actions.

unfilled positions.

9: Introduction to Configurable Security

• Describe the difference between business process and subprocess security policies.

10: Introduction to Business Process Definitions

• Describe the business process framework and configuration options.


• Identify basic business process terminology and step types.
• Edit a business process to include additional steps and advanced configurations.
• Review a business process using the business process visualization diagram.

11: Hire Workers

• Describe the purpose of pre-hire records and how to create them.


• Hire and propose compensation for a worker.

12: Additional Staffing Transactions

• Distinguish between a contingent worker and an employee.


• Contract a contingent worker.
• Transfer an employee by completing the change job process.
• Terminate a worker by completing the termination process.
• Explain the job overlap process and when to use it.
• Perform a delegation change.
