MATH 8-WEEK 3-DAY 1 To 5-Q4
I. OBJECTIVES
a. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate key concepts of linear inequalities in two variables, systems of linear inequalities in
two variables and linear functions.
b. Performance Standard
The learners are able to formulate and solve accurately real-life problems involving linear inequalities in two
variables, systems of linear inequalities in two variables, and linear functions.
c. Competencies
(M8AL-IIc-3): The learners determine dependent and independent variables.
(M8AL-IId-1): The learners find the domain and range of a function.
d. Values Integration: Excellence at the Service of Others
The learners are expected to be compassionate in applying the concept they have learned in finding the
domain and range of a function in real – life situations. (Elaborate)
e. Learning Outcomes
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. identify the independent and dependent variables;
2. relate the concept of domain and range to real-life situation; and
3. find the domain and range of a function.

IV. PROCEDURES Teacher’s Notes
a. Engage
Activity 1: “The Variables” Let the students determine the variables and answer the questions
that follow.
Prompt Question:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. How did you easily find the variables in each situation?
Presentation of the Topic and Learning The students can now conclude that the topic is about
Outcomes Determining the Dependent and Independent Variables and
Finding the Domain and Range of a Function. Let the students be
guided with the learning outcomes:
LEARNING OUTCOMES
a. identify the independent and dependent variables.
b. relate the concept of domain and range to real-
life situation.
c. find the domain and range of a function.
b. Explore
Think, Pair and Share: “Real – life Let the students consider the scenario given by the teacher and
Scenario” perform what is indicated.
Guide questions:
1. Which of the variables could be changed independently?
2. Which of the variables could be affected by the change of
the other?
3. If for every hour he gets paid Php40, how much will he
earn after working 5 hours?
4. Would it be possible for Robert to earn Php800.00 in one
day? Why or why not?
c. Explain
Giving Examples Let the students consider the given examples to do the activities
that will be given to them.
Board Work/Individual Activity Let the students answer the examples given on the board or on
their seats.
Introducing Determining the Dependent Let the students illustrate dependent and independent Variables.
and Independent Variables
Domain and Range of a Function Let the students define domain and range of a function.
Domain and Range of a Function Given Let the students determine the domain and range of the function.
Sets of Ordered Pairs
Domain and Range of a Function using Let the students determine the domain and range described by the
the Mappings/Diagrams mapping.
Domain and Range of a Function Given Let the students determine the domain and range of the given
the Notation (or Equation) function.
Domain and Range of a Function Let the students determine the domain and range of the set of

Activity 2: “What I Can Do?” Let the students read carefully and analyze the problem given.
And share to the class some safety precautions they know when
they encounter this given scenario.
Prompt questions:
1. In the given situation, the number of liters of gasoline is
what type of variable? Why?
2. What could be the domain and range if the tank is quarter
full before he had to fill it with gasoline?
3. Noli is sitting on his motorcycle while allowing the
gasoline station attendant to fill the tank. Is it correct?
Why? Why not?
4. If you are in the situation of Noli, what safety precautions
would you observe while refueling your motorcycle?
e. Evaluation
Short Quiz: “Limited or Limitless?” Let the students have a short quiz about the topic discussed.
