information. Sign the notice as Anupam, the Editor.
6. Based on your understanding of the passage, make notes on it using headings and
sub-headings. Use recognizable abbreviations (wherever necessary-minimum four)
and a format you consider suitable. Also, supply an appropriate title to it. Write a
summary of the passage in about 80 words.
Colour Therapy is a complementary therapy for which there is evidence dating back
thousands of years to the ancient cultures of Egypt, China and India. If we define it in
simple terms, Colour is light of varying wavelengths, thus each colour has its
particular wavelength and energy.
Colours contribute to energy. This energy may be motivational and encouraging. Each
of the seven colours of the spectrum is associated with energy. The energy relating to
each of the seven spectrum colours are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and
violet, resonates with the energy of each of the seven main chakras/energy centres of
the body. Colour therapy can help to re-balance and/or stimulate these energies by
applying the appropriate colour to the body.
Red relates to the base chakra, orange the sacral chakra, yellow the solar plexus
chakra, green the heart chakra, blue the throat chakra, indigo the brow chakra
(sometimes referred to as the third eye) and violet relates to the crown chakra.
Colour is absorbed by the eyes, skin, skull, our ‘magnetic energy field’ or aura and the
energy of colour affects us on all levels, that is to say, physical, spiritual and
emotional. Every cell in the body needs light energy – thus colour energy has
widespread effects on the whole body. There are many ways of giving colour,
including; Solarised Water, Light boxes/lamps with colour filters, colour silks and
hands-on healing using colour.
Colour therapy can be shown to help on a physical level, which is perhaps easier to
quantify, however, there are deeper issues around the colours on the psychological
and spiritual levels. Our well-being is not, of course, purely a physical issue.
Fortunately, many more practitioners, both orthodox and complementary, are now
holistically treating patients.
Colour Therapy is a holistic and non-invasive therapy and colour should be a part of
our everyday life, not just something we experience for an hour or two with a
therapist. Colour is all around us everywhere. This wonderful planet does not contain
all the beautiful colours of the rainbow for no reason. Nothing on this earth is here
just by chance; everything in nature is here for a purpose. Colour is no exception. All
we need to do is to heighten our awareness of the energy of colour, absorb it and see
how it can transform our lives.

In our country good Newspapers are published in all the Regional languages.
Our country is a democratic country. So Newspapers play an important role here
2- Rubber is prepared from the latex of certain trees. Those trees are found in India.
Java, sumathra, Malaysia, Africa, and South America. There are creepers also that
give latex. These kinds of creepers are found in India, Burma and Java.
After collecting the latex, it is boiled in water and after boiling it becomes soft.
Rubber is not boiled in fire directly. Because it is easily inflammable. After boiling in
the water, rubber is prepared from the sediment at the bottom.
Today rubber has occupied an important role in our life. Our many essential
works will be stopped if it is not available.
3. One day King Dasaratha went for hunting riding on a horse. He reached the bank
of a river. The river is hidden by the trees. A blind man lived in the forest. His wife
also was blind. At that time their young son had gone to fetch water from the river.
Hearing the sound of the dipping pot, the King thought that a wild elephant was
taking bath in the river. At once he shot an arrow in the direction of the sound. The
arrow pierced the chest of the young man. No sooner did the arrow hit him than he
fell down shouting loudly.
4. Human society has a close relationship with crows. Different kinds of stories are
prevailing among us about crows. There are so many references in the folk songs
about this and many kinds of believes exist about this. We don’t know that whether
they are right or wrong. It is said that crow caws at our door step of the house when
somebody is about to come to our house or to receive any body’s message. Similarly,
it is believed that they earlier inform us information of the incidents to be happened
in the future.
5. We know that the earth revolves round the sun and the moon revolves round the
earth. It is belived that once upon a time the earth was also a ball of fire. So we can
live on its upper side. But the inner part of the earth is hot even now.
The pole star is on the north direction of the sky, which is situated permanently in
the same place. A little away from this seven twinkling stars are seen. These are
called “Saptha Rishi’’.
6. Gandhi’s father was ill in those days. Gandhiji could not have courage to say
his word before him. So he wrote a letter in which he clearly accepted the matter
that he has eaten meat, smoked cigarettes and stolen and beg his pardon and
he assured that he will never do such action in future. He gave this letter to his
father. Father read this letter and shed tears. He has pardoned Gandhiji.

1. Passage I:
The hormones secreted by the pituitary gland stimulate testes and ovaries to
produce their hormones. It is attached to the brain. Apart from the pituitary, the
testes and the ovaries, there are other endocrine glands in the body such as thyroid,
pancreas and adrenals. Raju and Rakesh had once visited their aunt who was a doctor
and remembered that a boy named Kamal had a very big and bulging throat. Their
aunt had told them that Kamal was suffering from ‘goitre’, a disease of the thyroid
gland. Kamal’s thyroid gland was not producing the hormone thyroxine. Their aunt
also told them that their uncle was suffering from ‘diabetes’ because his pancreas was
not producing the hormone insulin in sufficient quantities. Raju and Rakesh then
asked their aunt about the adrenal glands, which are also shown in the chart, hung on
the wall of her clinic. Their aunt told them that adrenal glands secrete hormones
which maintain the correct salt balance in the blood. Adrenals also produce the
hormone adrenaline. It helps the body to adjust to stress when one is very angry,
embarrassed or worried. Thyroid and adrenal glands secrete their hormones when
they receive orders from the pituitary through its hormones. Pituitary also secretes
growth hormone which is necessary for the normal growth of a person.
i. If the thyroid gland of a person is not producing thyroxine hormone, he/she is
suffering from ________.
ii. If a person suffering from diabetes, the pancreas does not produce ______
hormone in sufficient quantity.
iii. Give one function of adrenal glands.
iv. Name two endocrine glands present in the human body.
v. The endocrine glands are also called ________ glands.
2. Passage II:
When light falls on the surface of an object, the object sends this light back. The
bouncing back of light rays from the surface of an object into the same medium is
called reflection of light. The incident ray, reflected ray and the normal at the point of
incidence all lie in the same plane. The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of
reflection. If two plane mirrors are inclined at different angles, then the number of
images formed by plane mirrors will vary. Angle and the number of images formed
vary inversely. Kaleidoscope is a device containing inclined plane mirrors which
involve multiple reflections of coloured glass pieces and forms beautiful patterns.
i. The picture shows a light ray from a candle falling on a mirror. P, Q, R, S and T
are five points behind the mirror.
a) Which arrow represents the light ray reflected from a mirror?
b) At which point will the image of the candle form?
c) Will the image be erect or inverted?
ii. Which of these statements is true for reflection of light? Write ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.
d) Light rays are reflected by plane surfaces only.
e) Incident ray and reflected ray meet at same point.
f) Angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection.
iii. The picture shows a candle in front of two plane mirrors joined at their sides.
