49TH NUTRITION MONTH CELEBRATION


A NARRATIVE REPORT
In celebration of the 49th Nutrition Month with the Theme: Health Diet
Gawing Affordable For All!”, the Barangay Nutrition Committee of Barangay
Osmeña headed by Punong Barangay June T. Yadao conducted various
activities for the campaign towards a healthier barangay.

On July 19, 2023, 8:00 in the morning, the 49 th Nutrition Month was
celebrated at Barangay Osmeña Community Center. The program started with
an invocation led by Barangay Health Worker Jocelyn D. Cho followed by the
singing of the National Anthem conducted by Child Development Worker
Darlina A. Cabasag. Kagawad Rhea C. Binag, Committee Chair on Health and
Nutiriton rendered her Opening Remarks welcoming all guests and participants
for this year’s nutrition month celebration. Punong Barangay June T. Yadao
delivered his message after the Opening Remarks acknowledging the presence
of guests from including Mr. Ramill Claravall and staff of the City Nutrition
Office.

Second part of the program is the Lecture Proper where the 49 th


Nutrition Month theme was discussed by a staff of the City Nutrition Office,
followed by 1st 1000 Days ni Baby and Pinggang Pinoy by Midwife Clarisa M.
Macadaeg and Barangay Nutrition Scholar Marilou C. Andres.

For the third part of the program, Day Care Costume and Dance Contest,
and Lugaw Cooking Contest were the highlights. Casual Midwife Rose Ann A.
Rosete introduced the board of judges for the Day Care Costume and Dance
Contest namely Kagawad Rhea C. Binag, Committee Chair on Health and
Nutrition with Kagawad Imelda F. Salvador, her Co-Chair, and Mr. Ramill S.
Claravall, a businessman. Kagawad Rhea C. Binag briefly explained the
mechanics and criteria for judging before the presentation started. A total of
nine (9) pupils from Child Development Centers 1 and 2 participated in the
contest and entertained the guests and judges with their costumes and talents.
Christian Keith C. Celestino of Purok 7 won first place in the Day Care Costume
and Dance Contest and awarded with cash, tumbler and certificate. All
participants were given tokens and certificates to show appreciation for their
participation.

Following the awarding of pupils for the Day Care Costume and Dance
Contest was the Lugaw Cooking Contest participated by Barangay Health
Workers and their respective Purok Kagawads. As indicated in the mechanics, a
video presentation of the preparation and cooking process were shown
through an audio-visual presentation. Midwife Clarisa M. Macadaeg introduced
the Board of Judges which comprised of staff from the City Nutrition Office.
Criteria for Judging was explained briefly, while finished products were judged
after the video presentations. As of the finalized mechanics, video
presentations must be 15 to 20 minutes long, demonstrating how they prepare
their own lugaw recipe, making use of nutritious food ingredients which can be
served to eight (8) persons including 12 to 59 months children, pregnant, and
lactating women. After deliberation, Purok 7 represented by Kagawad
Deogracio G. Buenavista and Barangay Health Worker Jenifer B. Derupe won
first place in the Lugaw Cooking Contest producing a delicious and nutritious
recipe in line with this year’s Nutrition Month theme.

The last part of the program was the Hataw sa Barangay where all
children, parents, members of the Barangay Nutrition Committee, guests and
other participants joined together for a Zumba dance workout. The Nutrition
Month Celebration ended with the awarding of certificates and tokens to all
judges, followed by Closing Remarks by Kagawad Imelda F. Salvador. The
Barangay Nutrition Committee gladly completed the program as they are
certain that the purpose of this activity, which is to impart to all participants
about the importance nutrition especially during the first 1000 days, avoiding
nutrition problems, and improving the health and nutrition of our families
among others, are all realized.
