The teacher will divide the class into two.
The teacher will paste 2 pictures with different hazards commonly found in the
workplace on the board and each of members of the group will encircle the
types of hazards the will find in the picture.

4.3 Analysis
Break down each type of hazard, discuss potential consequences and

preventive measures.

1. Chemical Hazards - any forms of chemicals including medications,

solutions, gases, vapors, aerosols, and particulate matter that are
potentially toxic or irritating to the body system.

Examples of Chemical hazards:

• Airborne Particles: Certain industries produce airborne particles that
can lead to respiratory problems. Implementing effective ventilation
systems and providing respiratory protection equipment are key
strategies to reduce the risk of airborne particle exposure.

 Chemical burns : Handling corrosive substances can result in

chemical burns. Employers must provide appropriate training,
safety protocols, and first aid measures to prevent and address
chemical burn hazards.

2. Physical Hazards - A physical hazard are physical agent, factor or

circumstance that can cause harm with contact. They can be classified
as type of occupational hazard or environmental hazard. Examples are:
 Noise Hazards : Excessive noise levels can lead to hearing
impairment and other health issues. Industries such as
manufacturing and construction are particularly prone to high noise
levels. Environmental noise is one of the noise hazards e
commonly meet. Implementing hearing protection measures and
strict noise management are essential in minimizing the impact of
noise hazards.
 Machinery Hazards - Operational machinery poses risks such as
entanglement, crush injuries, and amputation. Proper training,
safety guards, and regular equipment maintenance are critical to
mitigating machinery hazards.
 Temperature Extremes: Extreme temperatures, whether hot or
cold, can adversely affect workers’ health. Adequate ventilation,
temperature control, and providing personal protective equipment
(PPE) are effective strategies to address temperature-related
hazards.

3. Biological/ Biohazards - A biological hazard, or biohazard are

hazards that have the potential to harm employees internally if not
properly addressed by management.
Examples of health hazards include:

 Viruses in the workplace, such as flu or common colds

 Mold
 Biological hazards due to insect, plant or animal life
4. Psychosocial Hazards - Psychosocial hazards are workplace
hazards that can cause mental or emotional damage within a workplace
environment. Examples of workplace psychosocial hazards include:

 Stress
 Bully or workplace violence
 Sexual harassment

5. Ergonomic Hazards - Ergonomic hazards are physical conditions that

may pose a risk of injury to the musculoskeletal system due to poor
ergonomics. Examples are;

 Poor posture and workplace design

 Manual Handling hazards

6. Environmental Hazards - Is a hazard encompass a range of threats to

the natural world, potentially causing harm to ecosystems, wildlife, and
human populations. These hazards often result from human activities,
including industrial processes, pollution, and deforestation.

Air Pollution: Industrial emissions, vehicle exhaust, and burning of

plastics.

Water Pollution: Agricultural runoff, industrial discharges, and

improper waste disposal.

Climate Change: Greenhouse gas emissions from human activities,

deforestation.
Present
Natural Disasters: Earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and wildfires.

Hazards assessment:

Discuss the 3 steps use to manage health and safety at work.

1. Spot the hazards - walk around and Get to know your working area
2. Assess the risk - Observe and pay attention to vulnerable workers
Socialize and speak to colleagues
Seek information to now the absences records.

3. Make the changes - responsible in every work.

4.4 Abstraction 1. Summarize key principles of hazard identification and risk

assessment. Discuss strategies for minimizing and eliminating
workplace risks

1. Can you name the 6 types of hazards in the workplace?

2. Can we assess those hazards and risks?
3. How to assess hazards and risk?
4. Is being proactive better then being reactive? Why or why not?

4.5 Application

Engage the students in a practical exercise where they assess hazards in a

simulated workplace scenario. Being proactive will be shown in this activity. Let
the students propose preventive measures.

1. The students will be grouped into 6.

2. Each type of hazards will be numbered 1 to 6.
3. Each group will have their topic (type og hazard) by rolling of the dice.

4.6 Assessment Tests
Individual Work
Directions: Answer the following questions in a ½
crosswise.

2. What are the potential consequences of exposure
to airborne particles in the workplace?
3. Explain how employers can prevent chemical
burns among workers.
4. Describe noise hazards in the workplace and their
effects on workers.
5. How can extreme temperatures pose risks to
workers, and what measures can be taken to
address these hazards?
6. Define biological hazards and provide examples of
health hazards they may pose in the workplace.
7. Explain the importance of proper management in
addressing biological hazards.
8. Identify examples of psychosocial hazards in the
workplace.
9. Discuss the potential effects of workplace stress
on employees.
10. How can employers address and prevent
workplace violence?
11. Define ergonomic hazards and provide examples.
12. Explain how poor posture and workplace design
can lead to ergonomic hazards.
13.What measures can be taken to prevent manual
handling hazards in the workplace?
14. Describe different types of environmental
hazards and provide examples.
15. Explain the importance of observing and
