    Module Number and Title: IM3 The 21st Century Literacies and Skills

    I. LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

    1. Below are some examples of social literacy in a classroom. As you look at these
    images, think about how many social interactions are occurring and what students
    are learning about from being exposed to these social situations. (20 pts.)

    Social interaction is essential for learning to be meaningful. Classrooms become


    exciting environments when social interaction is present in every aspect. These social
    situations occurring within the four walls of a classroom includes, students being engaged
    in group and collaborative learning, small projects, and group discussion where they can
    maximize their learning devices and resources to share knowledge and information for
    their group task. For example, since we're dealing with a pandemic, students can use
    Google Meet, Zoom Meetings, and Videocalls as alternative learning methods to share a
    group discussion. They can still collaborate through these even if they aren't in the same
    location. A debate can also be a social scenario in which students can freely and
    confidently defend their positions, thereby engaging them and allowing them to learn from
    one another. Role playing, dramatization, joining and participating in club organizations,
    having a positive attitude and behavior towards others, sharing belongings when
    someone needs it, brainstorming, assigning classroom tasks, and learning how to
    positively communicate and give random compliments with teachers and classmates are
    some of the other classroom activities. In a classroom, there are numerous social
    situations that arise and it's up to the teacher to figure out how he or she will teach to
    create an interesting and comfortable learning environment.

    Students who are exposed to these social situations boost not only their interactive and
    social skills, but also their comprehension, confidence, and comfort in their learning
    environment. They will also learn and appreciate collaborative learning, in which they can
    freely share their ideas, knowledge, and insights with their classmates. It will also improve
    their communication skills and, most importantly, it will equip them to address real-world
    issues. These social settings or interactions extend beyond the four walls of the
    classroom, capturing the larger picture in which their future is at stake.

    2. How are Multicultural and Global Literacy Interconnected? (10 pts.)

    People's awareness of discrimination, social justice, racism, globalization, and various


    culture is addressed in both Multicultural and Global Literacy. These two literacies
    empower people, particularly students and educators, to not only acknowledge but also
    respect and adopt cultural context in their learning as well as personal and social life.
    While multicultural literacy promotes students in developing 21st century skills and
    appreciating the beauty of different cultures, the goal of global literacy is to take action
    and make an initiative to gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures. Therefore,
    these two are linked by the framework of increasing cultural awareness through
    experience, because multicultural experiences enable students to think globally, unite,
    and engage as active citizens in the twenty-first century.
