IMPORTANT NOTICE

GUIDELINES ON UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS RETURN TO


FACULTY AND TEACHING & LEARNING (T&L) MODE FOR SEMESTER
1 ACADEMIC SESSION 2021/2022

Dear Students,

Greetings from the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya.

With reference to announcement made by UM COVID-19 Management Committee (Appendix A1


& A2) the faculty management has decided the following:

ADMISSION OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS TO THE FACULTY OF


ENGINEERING

Starting from 9th October 2021, all students of Universiti Malaya are allowed to return to campus
in order to undergo teaching and learning for Semester 1 Session 2021/2022. We look forward to
receiving you at the Faculty and please be assured that safety of all are our main priority.

1. Due to the nature of engineering programmes, the faculty has decided that all
undergraduate students with complete vaccination are required to return to the faculty.

2. Definition of complete vaccination:


(i) Only students who have completed two (2) doses of vaccine and have passed 14
days from the date of the second (2) dose are allowed to enter the campus or
(ii) Students who received a vaccine that requires only one (1) dose can enter the
campus after 28 days from the date of vaccination.

3. For international students, kindly refer to the Academic Administration and Services Center
(AASC) website on the entry procedure to Malaysia: https://aasc.um.edu.my/main-
international-page. All procedures stated above are subjected to the laws and regulations
stipulated by the Malaysian Government at any given time.

4. All students must comply with the SOPs issued by the UM COVID-19 Management
Committee.
TEACHING AND LEARNING (T&L) ACTIVITIES FOR SEMESTER 1,
ACADEMIC SESSION 2021/2022
1. Teaching and learning methods for Semester 1, academic session 2021/2022 are in
accordance with the following regulations:

Methods

• University Courses (SHE, English etc.).


Online • Courses attended by mobility students &
students who are abroad.

• Faculty and Department Courses


• Tutorial
Physical/Hybrid
• Elective Courses
• Research/practical work/lab

2. 1st week, classes will be conducted online.


3. Starting from 2nd week, courses will be conducted in a physical/hybrid mode.
4. The number of students attending classes face to face should not exceed 50% of the
capacity of the lecture room/hall at one time.
5. International students who are still in their home country and students who have not been
vaccinated and have not passed the 14-day period will continue classes online.
6. Labs, IDP and FYP will be implemented face to face or virtual mode for student who unable
to come back due to valid reasons.
7. Department will arrange the schedule for Lab works based on the SOPs.
8. For IDP/FYP students, please contact your Supervisor/Head of Department for proper
arrangement.

The Faculty’s decisions have been made after careful deliberation and in order to ensure effective
conduct of teaching and learning of all programmes. We thank you in advance for your kind
cooperation and hope that we will be able to uphold the Faculty’s and University’s best practices
through this exercise. We look forward to seeing you back to the Faculty. We reiterate that the
wellbeing and safety of our students remain our utmost priority.
