“Classroom Rules”

- Listen to the teacher.

- Follow directions
- Raise your hand if you want to answer or ask question.
A. Preparatory - Be quiet when the teacher is talking.
Activities: - Treat others with respect all the time.

Objective # 5 Established safe and secure learning environments to enhance learning

(ELICIT) through the consistent implementation of policies, guidelines and procedures.

Objective # 6 Maintained learning environments that promote fairness, respect and care
to encourage learning.

4. REVIEW

In our previous lesson we have learned about:

Suspension - Is a Heterogeneous mixture where visible particles can be seen from the
naked eye as it settles down at the bottom or float on top when left undisturbed.
Colloid – Is a mixture that exhibits both properties of liquid and solid and it is called
non- uniform mixture because the particles do not settle but remain dispersed
throughout the medium.

Let’s answer the activity!

Direction: Draw a happy face 😊 it the given mixture is SUSPENSION and

sad face ☹ if it is COLLOID.

1. Oil and water 2. Milk

3. Chalk dust and water 4. Fog

B. Giving of
Objectives

C. Motivation The learners will be asked on the following questions?

1. Who among you here will celebrating birthday this month?

2. What do you want to prepare on your birthday?
3. Have you observed your mother preparing “biko” for an occasion?
4. Can you mention the ingredients in doing so?
5. Give a stress on extracting coconut milk.

Say: In separating the coconut milk from its meat we should use an appropriate
separating technique to do.

Objective #4 Displayed proficient use of Mother Tongue, Filipino and English to

facilitate teaching and learning.
Note: The teacher will discuss the lesson using English Language.

The technique of separating soluble solid from a liquid is done with the use of Filter Cloth
and or Filter paper this is called FILTERING.

D. Establishing A common example of filtering that uses cloth or filter paper is coffee brewing.
the Purpose
of the
Lesson.

(ENGAGE)
A lot of coffee lover are familiar with it.

When separating two solid materials where one particle is fine and the other is coarse,
one uses a strainer. This is called SIEVING.

Now, let’s find out the details of these two techniques.

FILTERING - Solid and liquid components can be separated with the use of filter paper
or filter cloth as a medium in which liquid passes through filter paper leaving insoluble
solid material in the medium.

SIEVING - Is a method in which two or more components of different sizes are

separated form a mixture based on the difference in their sizes which uses a sieve.

ACTIVITY TIME! ⏰
Group Activity
The class will be divided into 2 groups, group 1 will do the filtering while group 2 will do
the sieving technique. The learners will read first the procedures before they will do the
activity. Then, they will answer the questions and write it at the back of the card.

Filtering

These are the materials that we need:

- Muddy water
- Plastic cups
- Filter paper
- Funnel

Procedures:
First, insert the funnel in the mouth of the plastic cup
then, fold the filter paper into half and fold it into half again.
Wet the filter paper with the small amount of water and slowly pour the muddy mixture in
the cups.
Finally, we now have filtered water.
Objective # 5 Established safe and secure learning environments to enhance learning
through the consistent implementation of policies, guidelines and procedures.

QUESTIONS:

- What kind of mixture is the muddy water?

- SUSPENSION
- What are the different components of muddy water?
- Mud and water are the different components of the muddy water.
- How did we separate the component of the mixture?
- We used the folded filter paper and placed it in the glass funnel to
separate the components of the muddy water.
SIEVING

These are the materials that we need:

- sieve
- plastic bowl
- mixture of flour and mongo seeds

Procedures:

First, put the sieve to the bowl. Then put the mixture of the flour and mongo sieve and
slowly shake it. Observe what’s inside the plastic bowl.

QUESTIONS:

1. How many mixtures are being separated?

- Two (2)
2. What type of mixture is flour and mongo seeds?
- Heterogeneous Mixture
3. How did we separate the components of the mixture?
We separate the components of the mixture using sieve. Sieving
is a method used to separate small particles from bigger particles.

Objective # 2 Used a range of teaching strategies that enhance learner achievement in

literacy and numeracy skills.

Did you find our activity interesting? Great job! learners. Now you already know how to
separate mixtures through filtering and sieving. Excellent!

E. Presenting GROUP ACTIVITY!

instances of The two groups will present the separation of mixture through sieving and filtering and
the new explain for 5mins. Encourage the learners to participate the group activity.
lesson
(Group-1) Flour and rice – SIEVING
(Group-2) Sand and water – FILTRATION
Objective # 6 Maintained learning environments that promote fairness, respect and care
to encourage learning.

(INTEGRATIO Cake making – We use flour/cornstarch in making cakes.

N) Water filtration – We separate the dirt from the water by filtering. We now have a
Home clean water.

of concepts
and Skills 1. Kyle wanted to bake a cake for the birthday of his cousin. He found out that the flour
in daily that he will be using got mixed up with some dried seeds. What technique will he use
and why?
living
Ans: He will be using the sieving technique, because flour which is finer than the
(ELABORATE) seeds will pass through the tiny holes leaving the seeds in the sieve.

2. What type of mixture will you form when you put dried tea leaves in hot water and
then put some ice cubes and sugar in it? What separating technique would you use to
extract the dried tea leaves from the hot water?
Ans: Iced tea! Filtering, because the dried tea leaves are insoluble and only hot
water will pass through the filter paper leaving the dried tea leaves.

Objective # 2 Used a range of teaching strategies that enhance learner achievement in

literacy and numeracy skills.

Objective # 3 Applied a range of teaching strategies to develop critical and creative

thinking, as well as other higher-order thinking skills.
