    Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU)


    Principal particulars
    The Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) supplies and
    distributes pressurised hydraulic
    fluid. The HPU has been certified to DNV 2.7-3
    Portable Offshore Units. It comes equipped with a
    dedicated offshore lifting set to be used for offshore
    lifting and deck handling.
    The HPU incorporates a pneumatic over hydraulic
    mechanism which can be powered using rig
    air supply (~100psi). Hydraulic fluid is brought on to
    tank through filtration (3 micron) using a
    diaphragm pump which also doubles as a
    recirculation pump. The unit contains two tanks:
    supply (850L) and return (150L). Spent (dirty fluid) is
    first returned into the return tank and then
    (when full) automatically transferred into the supply
    tank through filtration (3 micron).
    The unit contains four independent circuits: 3x low
    pressure (4,545psi WP) and 1x high
    pressure (8690psi WP). These circuits are powered
    through respective pneumatically driven
    high-pressure liquid pumps, which are used to
    charge the accumulator banks: 6x 32L 5,800psi;
    2x 20L 9,570psi bladder accumulators respectively.
    Hydraulic pressure is distributed through a 35
    function (29LP; 6HP) mimic panel, containing
    double block and bleed needle valve isolations on
    every line.
    The HPU also contains an integrated ESD system.
    When activated from a pull out panel button,
    pressurised hydraulic fluid (regardless of the
    position of the manual panel valves) would
    automatically distribute or vent allowing safe
    isolation, shutdown and disconnection from the
    subsea well in the event of an emergency well control
    situation.
