Red Man Syndrome
Other than slowing down the infusion rate, antihistamines can relieve and prevent the
effects of red man syndrome. Antihistamines such as diphenhydramine and hydroxyzine
administered before the vancomycin dose can help to reduce symptoms of pruritus and
erythema. Pretreatment is usually given in IV form with 50 mg of diphenhydramine
over the course of one hour. By pretreating with either diphenhydramine or hydroxyzine,
red man syndrome can be prevented when the patient receives their first dose of
vancomycin. Other than these pretreatments, a combination of an H1 receptor blocker
with an H2 receptor blocker such as cimetidine can also reduce the risk of developing
red man syndrome.7 In our patient, the IV vancomycin dose should have been
discontinued because of the incorrect route and instead, she should have been given oral
vancomycin. JZ should also have been given a pretreatment of 50 mg of

On Liberty
On John Stuart Mill s production On Liberty has not only became one of the most widely
known political and philosophical writing, but also produces one of the fundamental
political questions on finding the balance in between liberty, democracy and authority.
Although Mill s writing was deeply influenced by Bentham s Utilitarianismphilosophy,
Mill s theory in On Libertyemphasized more around the value of individuality, equality
and liberty (Donner, 1991; Skorupski, 1998). All three elements focused on by Mill,
are closely connected in democratic society, Mill s major fear was the emergence of
dictatorship based on majoritarian and conformist behavior within a society (Skorupski,

Further, Feinberg (1977) illustrates the connection between self interested, selfish,

Nevertheless, there are several arguments regarding the definition of self regarding
action and other regarding action. An example in modern society today could be the
banning of drug use. As in most countries, drug use is forbidden by legislation, but one
could argue that whether the use of drug is self regarding action or other regarding
action. To be fair, the use of drugs could really be a self regarding action when it came to
addiction and self consumption. However, if taking Washington states in the United
States as an example, where it has just recently legalise the use of marihuana, yet it did
not set up any regulation regarding to the limitation of use. Hence, the increase of car
accident while using marihuana and thus the use of drug could become an other
regarding action. At this point, one could argue that in such a case, the state ought to
have the rights to limit individuals liberty. Furthermore, taking gun regulation as another
example, where most people today around the world purchase a gun as a self interest
action regardless of either hunting or
Neurological Disorders Essay
The human brain is utterly baffling. A small organ weighing merely three pounds as an
adult has the ability to control and shape a human s life. Without it there would be
nothing. There are so many different functions... and with that there are so many things
that can go horribly wrong. It is amazing the capacities and that it possesses and we do
not even realize it. That is why studying neurologyand working on the treatment of
neurological disorders is so critically important. Through the examination of Huntington s
disease, Bell s Palsy, and Aphasia, neurologists can work to better the human mind and
cure the diseases that attack it, which will infinitely enhance the lives of humans and
create a brighter future for us all.

Research is also being done to help with the curing of Bell s Palsy. The National Institute
of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) performs extensive research in order to
better the understanding of how the nervous system works and what causes dysfunction
in the nervous system. Some of this research entails learning more about what causes
nerve damage and certain diseases and conditions that cause nerve damage. Information
gained from this research can aid neurologists to find the cause of Bell s Palsy, which
would obviously lead to better treatments (NINDS, 2011).
The next disease being discussed, Huntington s Disease, is a hereditary progressive
neurodegenerative disorder that can affect the psyche, emotions, and behavior.
However, it is most commonly known for the loss of cognitive functioning as well as
motor disturbances (Leffler, 2011). Usually the initial signs of Huntington s Disease
starts with jerky movements that can affect various parts of the body (face, arms, legs,
etc.) as well as the gradual beginnings of dementia; the memory is usually impaired.
There also may be disorientation, or disillusioned ideas of time, place or identity, as well
as personality changes and possible increased agitation. Common neurobehavioral
changes include: a tendency to blame others for one s faults, suspiciousness,
impulsiveness, constant complaining, lack of self control, and lack of
The Literary Works That I Will Be Featuring
The two literary works that I will be featuring are a short story and novel; both set
centuries apart yet, connect with one another in linguistic principles. Both horror
writers and with this genre, semantics can be quite fascinating. Both King and Poe,
focus on the various levels of semantics horror and psychological. The semantic
perspective of Christine are that of modern day slang, teenage symbolism. With
semantic idioms and jokes, you would see the humor behind the man with the scary
mask. Christine s characters are teenagers, besides the a little parental irresponsibility,
with these hormonal teens, plus Christine. Arnie and Dennis, were full of idioms,
such as, I just had this call to nature, or I gotta take a whiz! (King) Some commonly
used idioms were most directly, ones of love and anger. Arnie due to the possession or
should I say obsession of Christine, his vocabulary goes from chess club nerb to
garage bralling bully. The bully, Repperton was as rough and ignorant as they come and
he spoke like it. Keep your jock on, man or as Dennis put it, Eat me raw through a
Flavor Straw! (King) These guys were the kings of semantic idioms. The semantic
perspective is about understanding meaning in words and their sentence structure. Shifts
in meaning changes, especially with slang words. The meaning of this popular American
English culture novel was a metaphorical teenage love triangle. For Poe, his short story,
The Tell Tale Heart would be dramatically
The Wife of Bath’s Tale
The Wife of Bath s Tale in The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a story about a
widow who took a pilgrimage to the town of Canterbury with an array of dynamic
characters whose diverse backgrounds allowed them to share their stories with one
another to make the long journey more interesting. The widow named Alisoun in the
The Wife of Bath s Tale told the tale of her experiences with her five past husbands and
a story about a knight and a witch. She truly believed that for a woman to have a happy
life she would need to gain dominion over a man; however one could assume this was
programmed into her by her influential mother and her own religious doctrines.
Accordingly, Alisoun argued that the woman must control everything in... Show more

It is not a sin to marry again if your spouse died. The Bible states, For the woman which
hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he liveth; but if the
husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband (Romans 7: 1 3). The bible
does not state a limit to how many times a person shall marry but says that one should
increase and multiply. The Bible avowed, And God blessed them, and God said unto
them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living
thing that moveth upon the earth (Genesis 1:28). Hallissy proposed,
The Wife of Bath sees marriage as basically about the use of what she calls the
member...of generation (III, D, 116), the sex organ. Why, she asks, would God have
made people with male and female sex organs if He did not intend them to use these
organs? Sex organs are not, she reasons, merely for purgation of urine or for
distinguishing a female from a male; they are also designed to pay what medieval people
thought of as the marital debt. This concept in medieval canon law (church regulations)
obliges husbands and wives to have sex with each other on demand (111).
The first three husbands that the widow had were old, rich, impotent, and loved her
dearly. She always had the upper hand in the marriages by

Four different thrips species; marigold thrips, Neohydatothrips samayunkur; western
flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis; tomato thrips, Frankliniella schultzei and onion
thrips, Thrips tabaci were recorded on marigold plants in the field. Tagetes erecta L. was
grown on the experimental farm, Giza governorate, Egypt. The survey was carried out
during mid April to late
July and from early September to late December 2013. Weekly samples were randomly
selected and examined for the presence of the different thrips species. Identification of
thrips species was based on morphological characters. Neohydatothrips samayunkur
recorded the highest average numbers in both periods of the survey, from mid April to
late July and from early September to late December 2013 (189.5 and 143.6 individuals
/plant, respectively), while the lowest number was recorded for T. tabaci (4.6 and 5.9
individuals/plant). This is the first report of N. samayunkur in Egypt. Description of the
recorded species is given as well as their seasonal abundance on marigold plants.
Key words: thrips, Neohydatothrips samayunkur, Egypt, marigold,
