Lesson Idea
☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
the teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
they need to watch it again to remember. I will also read them the instructions for the
following activity where they create their own eBook in 3 person groups. They will go on
PowerPoint, and I will help them spell and type what they are trying to say, along with my
colleagues in the classroom. They will also each draw/color pictures they want to include in
their eBook. Now, students have all the information and supplies needed for this project. The
students will have my eBook as an example to have an idea on how to draw their pictures.
After all this information and discussion, the students may begin working on their eBook
projects. I will walk around and provide feedback and instruction when needed. Students will
be aware that they can ask me or others any questions they have. This project will not be
completed in one day and the students know how to try and do their best work, and they can
take their time. After everyone has completed their eBooks, we will have a circle time for
everyone to show off their artwork. After every student/group has presented, the lesson will be
concluded, and the students will now know more about coins.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
Making an eBook on PowerPoint is an excellent way to implement technology into the lesson
to extend students learning to get them actively involved in tasks. The students will
watch/listen to my eBook, and then create their own. The students will have two partners to
work on the project together, which involves co-engagement since they will be using the
computer together to build a project.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
The eBook PowerPoint activity and technology tool I selected supports and enhances the
learning experience for students in the classroom by allowing them to gain knowledge by the
video, and then show what they have learned. My eBook is an introduction, but it also is a
resource for students. They can rewatch the video to remind themselves of what they just
learned. When creating their eBook, they will have to constantly think and remember what
they learned to format a book of their own. Also, they will have to remember what they
learned because their pictures will have to match what their story is telling. My eBook tool
and their eBook supports engagement, representation, and action/expression by offering
flexibility, customization, and accessibility in their learning process.
After designing the lesson idea, I feel that the student’s activity I created will impact student
learning because the activity supports all means of the UDL framework. I also feel I motivated
the students by allowing them to work with two classmates, which implements collaboration.
Out of the whole lesson, I look forward to the students creating their pictures and seeing
their illustrations and stories. It is a hand on, technology induced, and students can design it
any they want while meeting the requirements. I personally enjoy this part because I had a
fun time creating and illustrating my own eBook and feel my students will as well.
