Founded in 1946, Kookmin University is the first private university to be established
in Korea after the country’s liberation. Since then, the university has grown in step
with Korea’s rapid progress and has expanded and diversified. It now has a total of 15
Colleges and 15 Graduate Schools.

Among KMU’s world-class faculties are its renowned College of Design, College of
Engineering, College of Automotive Engineering, College of Business Administration,
and College of Economics & Commerce. The university supports robust research and
development activities in such diverse areas as information technology, environmental
science and fermentation technology. KMU’s flagship projects comprise flexible
memory and nanotechnology, seawater desalination and fermentation fusion, all of
which are geared toward improving living conditions for the future.

KMU facilitates interactive ventures that enable students and faculty to showcase
their skills and learn while in the field through immersion and exposure. The university
is dedicated to training its students to be global-minded in their studies and through
fostering internationalism and a respect for multiculturalism. In keeping with its global
focus, it constantly strives to create greater educational exchange opportunities with
esteemed institutions around the world.

International Affairs Division
The International Affairs Division is where globalization is nurtured at Kookmin
University. The office was established to meet the growing needs of Kookmin
students’ study abroad. It is not only in charge of study abroad programs, but also
administers international admissions (undergraduate and graduate programs) and
partnerships with overseas universities and institutions.

Kookmin University has a well-developed global strategy and promotes numerous


international initiatives on campus. As of January 2016, Kookmin University partners
with 359 universities and institutions in 53 countries. More than 1,100 of its students
take part in education abroad programs annually, and 2,278 international students are
currently studying at Kookmin campus.

The International Affairs Division provides assistance with the following:


1. International admissions (undergraduate and graduate) to Kookmin University
2. Partnership with overseas universities and institutions
3. Study abroad programs (outbound and inbound)

Study Abroad Program
Kookmin University supervises over 200 student exchanges with partner universities
every semester. International students can join Kookmin University for a semester or
two and take courses taught in English. The university also provides Korean language
classes and culture programs, such as our Korean Tea Ceremony, to give foreign
students a better understanding of the Korean culture.

With affordable student accommodations and surrounded by the natural beauty of


Bukhansan National Park, Kookmin University is an ideal campus for international

Korean Language Program
The Kookmin Korean Language Center offers regular and short-term courses for
international students.

The regular course is designed to provide intensive instruction for students in


speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills. This 10-week course meets five times
a week for four hours each day and is divided into six levels: beginner 1, beginner 2,
intermediate 1, intermediate 2, advanced 1, and advanced 2.

The short-term course is designed as an intensive Korean language primer, exposing


students to Korean language and culture over a three-week period. This three-week
course meets five times a week and includes cultural experiences.

Kookmin University provides both on-campus and off-campus dormitories for students.
All rooms are equipped with their own shower and toilet. Students also have access
