contributions
What is Guardia de Honor?
One of his earlier short stories, Guardia de Honor, is a
Filipino writer’s take on an attempt to change the
uncertain future.
Guardia de Honor by Nick Joaquin shows us how truth
will haunt us no matter how we try to make ourselves
believe we are on the side of truth.
Contributions
What is The Summer Solstice?
One of Nick Joaquin’s amazing works is the mind-twisting story entitled The Summer
Solstice which was set in the colonial era and happened during 1850s Philippines during
the festival days of St. John. It's about a women overrule the society, knowing that males
were known to have the rights over women during the Spanish colonization period. The
Summer Solstice by shows the unequal treatment between man and woman.
A Portrait Of The Artist
A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino was described as Joaquin's “most popular play," as the
"most important Filipino play in English." This was about the story abounds in critical
themes of the conflict between tradition and modernity, battle between old and new, a
Filipino as divided being and struggling in his hybrid soul, art for art's sake, and the
concept of national identity.
