I am keenly interest in many aspects of singing.

Saxophone was my premier instrument, playing in chamber orchestras and learning treble clef; bass
clef came along with piano. I know the main scales to aid warmups, and I can sing gentle pop songs
with them. I am proficient in drums and in rhythm tab. Relative pitch in vox I am adhering to. My
tessitura is set at a high pitch. I am a Lyrischer Koloratursopran, mixed with a Dramatischer
Mezzosopran. Performing in opera and musical theatre is where I want this degree to take me.

An audition song is J.F. Barnett’s “The Fair Breeze Blew” (1786), based on “The Rime of The Ancient
Mariner” – a lost piece of music based on the eponymous poem. It spoke to me as a challenge as
there are no recordings, so I have to rely on myself for the rendition; not clouded from other people’s
interpretations, instead, focusing with upmost accuracy with ornamentation and long phrasings,
strengthening my breath capacity, control, and support. I train for these with exercises such as
controlled breathing with focus on an extended exhale, sometimes with aid of a straw and pushing
physical pressure on the intercostal muscles, creating more space for my diaphragm.

In Grade 8 LAMDA Musical Theatre (Distinction), I scored 20/20 knowledge and theory and I loved
researching this so much that I created and learned a full multiple paged essay, an unusual
endeavour. Another Distinction was in Verse and Prose Grade 7 which I enjoyed analysing poems
from each chosen century, including sonnets which enhances acting through song.

From a reputable source online, theory has taken precedence in the last few months in preparation
for uni. Learning scales on the piano is aiding interval training with chords to recognise harmonic
patterns, a subject which I relish in through multiple choirs, including 9 part solo harmonies and
polyphonic rhythms. One such is Rogers’ The Sound of Music, where I played a nun for charity. I have
a working, trusted relationship with my music teacher. In his role of a Choir Master, he has specially
asked me to aid harmonies for a choir that I am not a part of, and solo difficult songs. This is through
private tutoring and self-learning. Training takes 1.5 hours every 2 weeks, and I trained at least 4
hours each day to thoroughly work on feedback.

Because of this, it is natural for me to dissect each word and phrase. This enhances Acting Through
Song. An audition song is J.F. Barnett’s “The Fair Breeze Blew” (1786), based on “The Rime of The
Ancient Mariner” – a lost piece of music based on the poem of a similar name. It spoke to me as a
challenge as there are no recordings, so I have to rely on myself for the rendition; not clouded from
other people’s interpretations, instead, focusing with upmost accuracy.

Other skills that I have: St John’s Ambulance First Aid, public speaker, well versed in the English
language in etymology, speciality in essay writing and media analysis, chef, cook and caterer, helping
with a foster family, babysitting. And in my career, I specialised in being a chef and also working with
children. I am an assistant foster carer for my parents, helping children since I was 10. I took an active
role within the last few years, teaching CBT techniques, teaching music and caring completely for
infants. Being a chef taught me a lot about time, discipline, managing people. I worked 50+ hour
weeks for a year. Through the fatigue, I still trained in singing 2 hours each day in 10 hour shift days.
This led to being invited to a concerto with very little time to prepare with many harmony lines, 13,
and 3 solos.
