CHAPTER II
Methods and Procedures

This chapter presents the research design, population and sampling, data collection

instruments, data gathering procedures, and data analysis techniques used in this study.

Research Design

The research used a quantitative approach to examine the congruency of ABM strand on

the college courses of ABM graduates’ batch 2018 to 2020. The research design is descriptive

and correlational, as it aimed to describe the profile of the respondents and the level of

congruency of their strand and course, and to determine the relationship between these variables.

The survey was designed to gather quantitative data on the demographic characteristics,

academic performance, and college course preferences of the participants. The survey was

administered online using Google Forms. The participants were invited to participate in the study

via email and social media platform. The study will also discuss the implications, limitations, and

recommendations for future research based on the findings.

Population

The population of this study consisted of all ABM graduates’ batch 2018 to 2020 from

Aroroy National High School (ANHS) who enrolled in college. According to the given records,

there were a total of 85 ABM graduates from batch 2018 to 2020, which is 44.71 percent of abm
graduates in batch 2018-2019, therefore the batch 2019-2020 has 55.29 percent of ABM

graduates in AHNS.

Respondents of The Study

The respondents of the study are the ABM graduates of the Aroroy National High

School. The research was performed only for the School year 2018-2020. The researchers will

use a total population Sampling. The questionnaires will be given out to all ABM Graduates of

batches 2018-2022.

Sampling Technique

Convenience Sampling and Volunteer sampling were used in selecting the respondents in

this study. Since the researcher needed detailed information, this technique was applied.

The Convenience and Volunteer sampling are chosen for pragmatic reasons given the

nature of the study. Additionally, the focus on ABM graduates and their experiences makes

convenience and volunteer sampling appropriate, as it allows for targeted data collection from

respondents who are readily accessible and willing to answer the given questionnaires to share

their perspectives on the congruency of the ABM strand with their college courses.

Data Gathering Instrument

The researcher used two data collection instruments in this study: a survey questionnaire

and a document analysis. The survey questionnaire was used to gather data on the ABM

graduates' college courses, reasons for choosing their courses, and satisfaction with their courses.

The questionnaire consisted of three parts: Part I asked for the respondents' demographic

information, Part II asked for the respondents' college course information, and Part III asked for
the respondents' opinions and feedback on their courses. The questionnaire used a combination

of closed-ended and open-ended questions. The closed-ended questions used a Likert scale to

measure the respondents' level of agreement or satisfaction, while the open-ended questions

allowed the respondents to explain their answers in their own words.

The document analysis was used to gather data on the ABM strand curriculum and the

college course curricula of the ABM graduates. The researcher obtained copies of the ABM

strand curriculum from the adviser of ABM Strand .The researcher analyzed the documents to

identify the learning competencies and outcomes of the ABM strand and the college courses and

to compare them for congruency.

Data Gathering Procedures

The researcher obtained the approval of the ANHS principal and the DepEd division

office to conduct the study. The researcher also secured the informed consent of the ABM

graduates who enrolled in college to participate in the study. The researcher distributed the

survey questionnaires to the respondents through online platforms such as email, messenger, and

Google forms. The respondents were given two weeks to answer and return the questionnaires.

The researcher collected the completed questionnaires and checked them for completeness and

accuracy.

Statistical Tool

Considering The Congruency of ABM Strand on The College Courses of ABM

Graduates Batch 2018 to 2020. The researcher conducts a survey, consisting of two points
questions, with one question having sub-parts, the acquired information from different

respondent will help the researchers to answer the problem that the researcher tries to answer.

This gathered data will be analyzed by the researcher and use statistical tools to represent it in

descriptive statistic way.

Statistical tools are wide range of statistic methods to analyze a set of data, Statistical

methods involved in carrying out a study including, drawing meaningful interpretation and

reporting of the research findings. The statistical analysis gives meaning to the meaningless

numbers, thereby breathing life into a lifeless data.

The following research statistical tools will be used: Frequency, Percentage, and

Weighted Mean.

Frequency can be done in two ways. First, we have frequency that is simply the

frequency or also known as The Absolute Frequency, where it describes the number of times a

particular value for a variable (data item) has been observed to occur. There’s no formula needed

for this one as you can get the tally of the frequency by analyzing the gathered data. Second, the

researcher may also use Relative Frequency, describes the number of times a particular value for

a variable (data item) has been observed to occur in relation to the total number of values for that

variable. The relative frequency is calculated by dividing the absolute frequency by the total

number of values for the variable.

Formula for relative frequency.

f
Rf =
n

Where: Rf = Relative Frequency, F = Frequency, and N = Total Number of Values

for The Variable.

Percentage or Percentage Frequency. A percentage expresses a value for a variable in

relation to a whole population as a fraction of one hundred. The percentage total of an entire data

set should always add up to 100, as 100% represents the total, it is equal to the ‘whole’. A

percentage is calculated by dividing the number of times a particular value for a variable has

been observed, by the total number of observations in the population, then multiplying this

number by 100.

Formula for Percentage/ Percentage Frequency.

f
P= x 100
n

Where: P = Percentage, F = Frequency, N = Total Number of The Observe Population.
