INTRODUCTION

Shira Dome Console is a total solution application especially for stationary planetariums.

"Shira Presenter" 8K Fulldome Player and "OpenSpace" Space Engine (MIT License) were
combined under a single program, resulting in "Shira Dome Console".

The application uses the Shira Presenter sub-application to achieve media playback, various
visual effects and projector output. For detailed information about Shira Presenter

It uses OpenSpace infrastructure for application for space studies and astronomy education.

OpenSpace is open source interactive data visualization software designed to visualize the
entire known universe and depict our ongoing efforts to explore the universe.

The foremost “Science Board Partner” of the application is the American Museum of Natural
History (AMNH).

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is one of the largest natural history
museums in the world. The museum has a full-time scientific staff of 200 active researchers,
collections of more than 33 million plant, animal, mineral and cultural artifacts, and digital
collections that include astrophysical data, molecular and genomic sequences, and satellite
imagery. AMNH has a distinguished history as a leader in science visualization technology
designed to convey sophisticated science concepts to a general audience. The museum also
has a long history of successful partnerships with NASA, advancing science education for
local and international audiences.

PREVIEW WINDOW

8
Shira Dome Console User Guide 2023
There are two preview windows in SDC, the first is the main screen offered by OpenSpace. Here the
image is taken for a single compass direction. Rotation, Zoom, Roll effects cannot be applied with
mouse control.

With these three controls, movements initiated by the mouse are allowed to be
damped by the effect of friction, or by deselecting (by clicking) the effect of
friction is removed.

9
Shira Dome Console User Guide 2023

With the compass direction buttons, the view direction angle is changed with the flight movement
effect.

The second preview screen is the one presented by Shira Presenter. There are 4 types of previews
available. Mouse controls here will not affect the Open Space screen.

See the Shira Presenter user manual for detailed information.

Wide Angle preview with Shira Presenter

The information in the upper left corner shows the distance to the target object, the latitude
longitude height on the spherical object and the simulation time.

10
Shira Dome Console User Guide 2023

CONTROL WINDOW

Stops OpenSpace rendering. Its purpose is to stop the GPU operations that
would be unnecessary when any video playback starts by “Shira Presenter” so
that the video performance is not affected. This is done automatically when the
video is started with “Shira Presenter”. At the end of the video, if the loop
option is not selected, it is automatically clicked to start the OpenSpace
rendering process.

SETTINGS

11
Shira Dome Console User Guide 2023

Language: Multi-language support is available in SDC. Supported language selection is made

from the language drop-down box.

Open Space
Output Quality : Open Space determines the output render resolution. Selection is made
between 1K and 8K. The performance of the hardware should be taken into account when
selecting the value.

Tilt Angle: A value between 0-45 degrees can be given according to the tilt angle of the
projection dome. When 0 degrees is selected, the output performance will be higher.

WMS Cache Enabled: In OpenSpace, the data received from the Web Map Title service is
selected to be kept in the cache.

Offline Mode: Allows OpenSpace to continue running without a request to retrieve data over
the internet. In this case, the cached data is shown.

Web Remote Control: Activates the SDC to be controlled on another device (PC, Table, IPAD,
phone) over the network via the web interface.

Map Control
Use Software OpenGL : When this option is selected, the map control on the "Date, Time and
Layout" screen in SDC is enabled to use software-based screen commands, not hardware. This
option has been added because some computers have problems with remote access controls.

This option should be selected in order to save the last states of the features
when exiting the SDC and start with these states at power-on again. (Some
features are exempted from status registration processes.)

LICENSE MANAGER

12
Shira Dome Console User Guide 2023
The license file provided by Sureyyasoft is installed in this management window or the existing
licenses are removed. Multi-projector applications require a license for each projector. A single
license file contains licenses for all projectors.

44
Shira Dome Console User Guide 2023
This tool is obtained by rebuilding the script library using OpenSpace Lua language using
Javascipt language.
All commands in the Open Space Lua script library are supported.
However, for OpenSpace, firstly, register with "Open Space Recorder" and
core.runARecordSession('Rec1'); We recommend playing the OpenSpace recording related
to the command. At the points where this file is insufficient, javascript commands can be
used in between.
The Open Space scripting language library html-based help file can be accessed from the
following file path in the folder where the SDC is located..
ShiraDomeConsole\Packages\OpenSpace\documentation\index.html

Except for the OpenSpace library, the following commands are supported.

core. runARecordSession(‘RecordName’) : The OpenSpace log file is run, after the time
expires, the next script is passed.

core.debug(“information”) : Information is printed to the console output.

core.wait (n) : The line of script waits n seconds..

- Existing script files in the "\scripts" folder are listed in the list on the left. The script file
extension is ".sds".

- User can create user-defined buttons and assign events in "Script Frame" using script
commands.
