Material Cycling in The Ecosystem
Material Cycling in The Ecosystem
Material Cycling in The Ecosystem
SLIDE # 6
FOR todays LESSON IS ALL ABOUT THE CYCLING OF MATERIALS IN THE ECOSYSTEM
SLIDE # 7
AND YOU ARE EXPECTED TO ANALYZE THE ROLES OF ORGANISMS IN THE
CYCLING OF MATERIALS
And EXPLAIN HOW MATERIALS CYCLE IN THE ECOSYSTEM
SLIDE # 8
THREE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CYCLES WILL BE DISCUSSED AND THESE ARE THE
FOLLOWING:
1. OXYGEN & CARBON CYCLE –
2. THE HYDROLOGIC/WATER CYCLE
3. NITROGEN CYCLE
THE OXYGEN & CARBON DIOXIDE CYCLE -IS THE FLOW OF GASES THROUGH ORGANISMS
AND THE ENVIRONMENT
THE HYDROLOGIC /WATER CYCLE IS THE PROCESS WHERE WATER CIRCULATES AROUND
THE ENVIRONMENT
NITROGEN CYCLE IS THE CONVERSION OF ATMOSPHERIC NITROGEN INTO A FORMS
USABLE TO LIVING THINGS.
SLIDE # 9
SO LET US START OUR DISCUSSION ON THE DIFFERENT ROLES OF ORGANISMS IN THE ECOSYSTEM IN
THE NUTRIENT CYCLE.
As PRODUCERS CONSUMERS & DECOMPOSERS
To begin ,let’s take note the importance of the SUN as the main source of energy the
solar energy ‘
This is the driving force of most important processes and cycles in the Environment
The SUNLIGHT as one of the raw materials together with WATER from the soil to
materialize the process of PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
SO it’s the PRODUCERS- THESE ARE ALL the plant organisms produces OXYGEN using
the solar energy from the sun together with the absorption of water & nutrients from
the soil and is released in the atmosphere.
The CONSUMERS mostly animals & human who were dependent to plants as main
source of food and energy THROUGH THE PROCESS OF RESPIRATION produce Carbo
Dioxide and released into the air .
And the DECOMPOSERS -represented by all bacteria and other microorganism in the soil
who were the main agents for decomposition
It is when consumers and producers expire or die.
After the decomposition process all materials are made ready again, to be used by
plants through absorption repeating the cycle.
SLIDE # 10
NOW , DID YOU T HINK ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND RESPIRATION IN THE
CYCLING OF MATERIALS IN THE ECOSYSTEMS?
ARE THEY IMPORTANT ?
AND THE ANSWER IS YES !
THESE TWO MAJOR PROCESSES ARE IMPORTANT BECAUSE THE PRODUCTION OF OXYGEN AND
CARBON DIOXIDE IS THEIR JOB.
I KNOW THAT YOU ARE ALREADY FAMILIAR HOW THE PROCESS TAKES PLACES IN YOUR
ELEMENTARY SCIENCE
SO LETS HAVE A BRIEF BACKGROUND INFORMATION ABOUT PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND
RESPIRATION.
THAT THE PRODUCT OF PHOSYNTHESIS IS OXYGEN AND THE PRODUCT OF RESPIRATION IS
CARBON DIOXIDE
SLIDE 15
OKAY THE FIRST CYCLE IS THE OXYGEN AND CARBON DIOXIDE CYCLE
THEN THE PROCESS WILL BE REPEATED AGAIN AND AGAIN A NON STOP
PROCESS.
SLIDE # 15
SO HERE’S THE SUM UP QUESTION FOR OXYGEN & CARBON DIOXIDE
CYCLE
WHAT GAS DO ANIMALS PRODUCE THAT PLANTS USE?
So the answer is CARBON DIOXIDE
WHAT GAS DO PLANTS PRODUCE THATANIMAL USE?
THE ANWSER IS OXYGEN
WHAT IS THE PROCESS INVOLVE IN THE PRODUCTION OF OXYGEN?
THE ANSWER IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS
AND THE PROCESS PRODUCING CARBON DIOXIDE?
RESPIRATION
AND THE EXCHANGE OF OXYGEN AND CARBON DIOXIDE IN THE
ECOSYSTEMS AND USING IT AGAIN AND AGAIN IS CALLED?
SLIDE # 13
Ooh its raining
Have u ever wandered where the rain comes from
Or how the clouds are formed
these are question s which can be answered as we go through our discussion about water cycle.
Stage #1 – Evaporation
In this stage, the Sun starts to evaporate the water in the water bodies,
This water is in the liquid state in the bodies, but changes in weather,
Stage #2 – Condensation
Stage #3 – Precipitation
The water keeps condensing to form clouds, but when there is too much
accumulation or collection of water in these clouds, the clouds become
heavy.
This means the air can no longer hold this much amount of water, and
the water starts to fall back, mostly in the form of rain.
Stage #4 – Collection
This rainwaters gets collected in different water bodies so as with snow, of hail,
in which partially melted snow is called sleet.
Some gets stored under the ground, and is called ‘ground water’.
Then, again evaporation starts due to the Sun’s heat and the cycle
happens again.
Water cycle is a reversible process, which means you can change water
to vapors, and condense these vapors to form water.
Did you know that frozen water or ice is lighter than water? Hence, ice
tends to float in water. Think about this when you put an ice cube in
your lemonade.
Sometimes this collected water, comes down to the Earth’s surface in the form
When the sun heats up bodies of water such as lakes rivers and oceans water becomes water vapor and
rises up in the air
EVAPORATION
When
You can see water vapor at home just heat some water and when the water is heated
