Crushing and Feeder Operation
1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to offer instruction regarding the safety requirements
and expectations for crushing operations. Conforming to these requirements will reduce
the likelihood of incidents and accidents.

2.0 SCOPE
Applicable to all DIAMASAM crushing operation site.

3.0 PROCEDURE
In order to minimise any damage to the crusher feed bin, the ROM Loader Operator will
need to ensure that the feed bin is not overfilled. Overfilling of the bin may result in
spillage around the edges of the feed bin.
To clean any spillage from around the feed bin it is preferred that the Wheel Dozer be
used to lessen the impact on the concrete edges of the crusher feed bin.
When cleaning around the ROM feed bin, the Control Room Operator should be in-
formed (by 2-way radio or by the Shift Supervisor making contact by Phone) if this pro-
cess is going to concern him or others working in the primary crushing or conveyor feed
area.
The Control Room Operator may display a Red or Green light to indicate specific re-
quirements, these requirements must be adhered to.
Red light indicates (Do Not Tip)
Green light indicates (Tip when Ready)
All operators working on the ROM must monitor and obey the Red and Green Lights.
Truck and Loader operators should approach the safety barricade in a direction that will
allow them to visually inspect the barricade for any damage, spillage and or bin capa -
city.
Truck operators shall use the safety barricade as a guide only. When reversing your
truck to the concrete barricade you must use care when allowing the rear tyres to con-
tact the barricade. The safety barricade is a guide only and must not be used to stop a
fully loaded Truck or Loader.
Whenever any vehicle and or mobile equipment operator enters and or leaves the ROM
area a 2-way radio call stating:
“Example” (Light Vehicle on the Rom or Light Vehicle off the ROM) must be given over
channel 31

If required to use the WA-900 Loader to clean spillage from around the feed bin it es-
sential that all material be pulled backwards away from the concrete bin edge and not
pushed towards or into the bin edge.
All ROM Loader and Wheel Dozer Operators need to be aware that water and air service
lines may be in the area of the feed bin and care must be taken when loading and or
cleaning around the bin edge.

3.1 Blocked Feeder Bin

When the Feed Chutes become blocked, all power to the feed chute shall be isolated
before any machine or employee begins extracting the blocked material from the
chute.
The ROM Loader Operator shall build a ramp with a level surface on top facing the end
of the feed chute to the same height as the feed chute, allowing the excavator operator
a level surface to work on.
Once authorisation by the Pit Supervisor has been given, a small excavator can then
commence removing the excess ore from the feed chute under the direction of a com-
petent person (Spotter) on the ground. The Spotter must be issued with a handheld
two-way radio for the task.
The excavator operator shall begin removing the excess material from the feed chute
and cast it to the opposite side of where the spotter is positioned.
The spotter that is providing direction to the excavator operator shall remain outside
the swing radius of the excavator and will ensure that they are in full view of the excav-
ator operator at all times.
When the feed chute has been cleared of blocked material, the excavator shall walk off
the ramp and park out of the working area of the ROM loader. The spotter shall inform
the Control Room operator that the excavator is clear and power can be re-connected
to the feed chute.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY

Supervisors will conduct active monitoring to monitor this activity.

Supervisors must ensure that work is carried out according to this procedure.
Deviations must be corrected immediately.
Project Managers are ultimately responsible for ensuring sufficient resources and pro-
cedural conformance.
