IIT Jammu invites applications from energetic meritorious qualified Indian Nationals,
Persons of Indian Origins (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and Foreign Nationals
having passion for teaching and research for the following faculty positions at the level of
Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and Visiting Professor
(contract and deputation) / Retired Professors (on contract), for its various academic
programs in different disciplines.
This is a rolling advertisement and there is no last date. Usually all the applications
will be processed as soon as they are submitted at the portal.

Visiting Professor (contract or on IIT Jammu shall be able to provide the best possible
deputation)/ Retired Professors remunerations and support for such faculty members
(on contract) from CFTIs as per the regulations of the Institute.
HRA and other allowances will be as per the Central Government Rules.
Pay Scale/Pay Level is as per 7thCentral Pay Commission (CPC) as adopted by IIT
Jammu.
Qualified Persons include:
(a) Indian Nationals (Institute specifically encourages applicants from

SC/ST/OBC/EWS category as well as persons with disability to apply for these
positions),
(b) Foreign Nationals, who are “Persons of Indian Origin” (PIO) or Overseas Citizens of
India (OCI); in whose case, if selected, permission will be sought from the Govt. of
India before he/she can join IIT.
(c) Other Foreign Nationals (not covered in (b)), in whose case, if selected,
appointment will be on a contract basis for up to 5 years subject to permission from
the Govt. of India before he/she can join IIT.
(d) Retired Professors from other CFTIs shall be expected to provide enthusiastic
mentorship to young faculty and staff members in policy formulation and also for
adoption of best practices. The applicant is expected to have proven teaching,
research and leadership record.
DISCIPLINES:
IIT Jammu would like to invest in people having core as well as interdisciplinary domains
with strong hands-on experience. IIT Jammu would like to put a lot of emphasis on
emerging areas of experiential learning and project based learning leading to translational
research.
1. CHEMICAL ENGG.: Bioprocess engineering, Food and food processing,

Sustainable Energy and Environment, Computational Engineering, Materials and
Nanotechnology.
2. CHEMISTRY: Organic Synthesis, Computational Chemistry, Inorganic Synthesis
3. CIVIL ENGG.: Transportation, Construction Management, Structural
engineering/structural dynamics/concrete dynamics.
4. COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGG.: Software engineering, Programming languages,
Operating system and networking, AI and robotics, Computer graphics and vision.
5. ELECTRICAL ENGG.: Instrumentation control and robotics, VLSI, embedded
systems and microelectronics.
6. HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCIENCES: Economics, Psychology.
7. MATERIAL SCIENCE & ENGG.: Ceramics, Electronic/Functional Materials,
Materials Degradation, corrosion and recycling, Computational Materials.
8. MATHEMATICS: Probability and statistics, Optimization techniques,
Combinatorics, Graph Theory.
9. MECHANICAL ENGG.: Optimization, Industrial Engineering, Conventional
Manufacturing.
10. PHYSICS: Electronic materials and devices, Light Matter interaction, Condensed
matter (Theory), Quantum information theory, Biophysics (experiment)
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR POSITIONS LISTED IN TABLE I & II:

Ph.D. in a relevant area with first class or equivalent at the preceding degrees with
throughout consistently good academic record.
Experience:
 Professor: Minimum 10 years Teaching/Research/Industrial experience of which at
least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs or in similar
institutes of national importance or at an equivalent level in any other Indian or
foreign institutions /institutions of comparable standards.
 Associate Professor: A minimum of 6 years Teaching/Industry/Research
experience, of which at least three years should be at the level of Assistant
Professor (Senior Scientific Officer/Senior Design Engineer).
 Assistant Professor: At least 3 years relevant industrial/research/teaching
experience, excluding however, the experience gained while pursing Ph.D.
Exceptional candidates having Post PhD experience less than 3 years shall be
considered for a faculty position. Candidates preferably should be below 35 years
of age.
 Visiting Professor/ Retired Professors (on contract): Retired Professors from
CFTI may also apply. IIT Jammu shall be able to provide the best possible
remunerations and support for such faculty members as per the regulations of the
Institute.
THE FOLLOWING ARE APPLICABLE FOR THE POSTS MENTIONED IN TABLE-I:
1. Start-up seed grant of up to Rs.30.00 lakhs to develop the necessary research

capability in the area of his/her expertise and to support the significant progress
made towards the research goals set for oneself. The Institute also provides an
additional grant of Rs. 30,00,000/- (Rupees thirty lakh only) as matching grant to
build new capability /high-value research facilities into emerging areas via special
project funding from external agencies. These are to be availed within 3 years of
joining. The strategic goal of this fund is to aim for winning bigger projects.
2. A cumulative Professional Development Allowance of Rs. 3 lakhs for every block

period of 3 years is available to every member of the faculty to meet the expenses
for participating in both National and International Conferences, paying the
membership fee of various professional bodies, books and periodicals and
contingent expenses.
3. Reimbursement of telephone bills as per Institute rules.
4. There is provision for payment of relocation allowance to faculty joining the Institute
from abroad or from elsewhere in India as per Institute rules, details of which are
available on the Institute website
NOTES:
 The areas mentioned above against each Discipline are only indicative and
not exhaustive. Institute would encourage overlapping areas in multi disciplines.
The Institute is open to receiving applications from candidates with specialization in
these and other related areas.
 Government of India policy on reservation of faculty positions as applicable to IITs,
including that for persons with disability, will apply.
 The minimum requirement of qualifications and/or experience may be relaxed in
respect of exceptionally outstanding candidates in certain areas.
 Mere fulfillment of required minimum qualifications and experience does not entitle
a candidate to be called for an interview/discussion.
 Once shortlisted and called for presentation, the Institute would expect an
articulated presentation in chosen areas of research and core subject topics in UG
and PG teaching.
 The Institute reserves the right to fill or not to fill the posts advertised.
 No correspondence whatsoever will be entertained from the candidates regarding
postal delays, conduct and result of the interview, and reasons for not being called
for interview or selection.
 Depending upon the qualification and experience, a higher start/salary may be
ordered in deserving cases.
 Candidates having overlapping interests in more than one Department can be
considered for joint appointment if selected.
 The candidates called for presentation and/or interview will be paid AC 2-Tier by
Train/Economy Class by Air or actual expenditure and AC Taxi by road(from
Airport/Railway Station/ISBT and back) fare from their place of residence/work and
back by the shortest route within India.
 Persons employed in Government/Semi-Government Organization or Educational
Institutions must apply through proper channel OR shall provide No Objection
Certificate while applying or at the time of presentation/interview.

ACCOMMODATION: Our new campus (Phase 1 of IIT Jammu) is at an advanced stage
of construction and all efforts shall be made to facilitate on campus faculty
accommodation those who wish to stay on campus. The campus is under development at
scenic location at Jagti on NH 44 in a forest and healthy environment for the residents.
