Guidelines for Student-visa applicants – “STATEMENT OF PURPOSE”

“Genuine Temporary Entrant” (GTE) requirement

Please see below the topics that the Educational Institution AND Dept of Home Affairs will consider
when they assess the applications, also when they interview the students:
Please write one paragraph for each bullet point.
o Introduce yourself (talk about your family, qualifications, and work experience)
o Why have you chosen to study in Australia and not in your home country? Please state your reasons for not
undertaking the study in your home country.
o Have you considered other higher education destinations such as the USA, Canada or the UK?
o Why have you chosen the course? Convincing reasons for the proposed course in Australia and choosing a high-
cost option relative to financial circumstances.
o Why have you chosen an Australian Institution? Which other colleges did you consider? Why this Australian
Institution and not the other colleges?
o Knowledge about the Course/s applied at the Australian Institute (e.g. units, costs, timetable, location)
o Please state your personal ties to your home country – importantly, show why you will RETURN to your home
country after completing your studies (family ties, aging parents/grandparents, job offer by a Company, etc)
o What do you know about Perth (or another Australian city that you will be studying in)?
o Are you aware of the cost of living in Australia? How much do you think your daily life will cost you in Australia?
What kind of living arrangements have you considered?
o What career do you wish to pursue after your studies?
o How will an Australian degree assist you in achieving employment in comparison to a qualification that could be
acquired domestically?
o If you had a “gap” in your studies - What did you do during your study gap? Work, further studies, and why?
o Why do you wish to study now?
o How will your studies be funded? Why will your family member or friend sponsor you? What is the relationship
between you and your sponsor?
o Financial capacity of your sponsors

o Provide a list of Ties to Home Country:

▪ Personal ties (if married or in a relationship) if yes, name and birthday of partner and if have
kids.
▪ Financial ties (any assets, properties, insurance, vehicles)
▪ If you are currently employed in PH, do you have SSS or GSIS, Pagi big, PhilHealth? (Kindly
email the documents.)
▪ Professional ties
▪ Social ties
o Any relatives in Au
o Future plans after completion of study in Australia.

enrolling on (start dates, end dates, units being taught, which campus you will be studying at, what are the
main features of this study course, what are the “prospects” on completing the course.
