30 Read the given excerpt carefully and answer the questions given below:

Industrial development in India was very slow and erratic during British rule. No steps
were taken by the British to protect the nascent Indian industries. A policy of free trade
was followed and the import duty levied on foreign goods was very low. Thus indigenous
goods had to face stiff competition from the machine-made British goods. It was only
during the period of the First World War (1914-1918), when British industries were busy
meeting the demands of the military, that industries in India received major orders, both
from the domestic and the export market.
(i) Why indigenous goods had to face stiff competition from the machine-made British
goods?
(ii) Name any one wealthy businessman who helped in the industrialization of India
after 1850s.
(iii) When and why did Indian industries receive major orders in the domestic and
export market?
31 Read the given passage carefully and answer the questions given below:

The introduction of farm machinery helped to increase the crop production and brought
more area under cultivation. Agriculture provides not only food for human beings and
animals, but it is also the main source of raw material for industries, such as textiles, sugar
and oil. It also acts as a consumer of industrial products like farm machinery, fertilizers
and pesticides. The prosperity of the industrial sector depends upon agricultural
prosperity.
(i) Why there is a need to bring more area under cultivation?
(ii) What should a farmer do to increase crop production in his field?
(iii) ‘The prosperity of the industrial sector depends upon agricultural prosperity’.
Elucidate.
