1. What are the challenges you face in relation to the courses?

Oh, of course there are a lot of challenges that I am really fighting with. First, courses I am
taking are sometimes wide to cover or I might not be well informed what to read or I am not
informed which authors books are the most important for the current course. Therefore, while I
am going here and there in search of books and related references time will be up before I gather
the right information and this makes me feel I am just in the wrong truck.

The other challenging point is, I have never been informed what my result was for continuous
assessments; presentations, term paper etc before the final exam. So I am being told the total
result at the end of the day. However, still there are instructors who inform my continuous
assessment result as soon as I took them. So that helps me how to deal with the coming
assessment.

In addition, as modular teaching is being applied, I cannot identify which point written in the list
is which part of the course. This is because the results are just listed without letting us know
which assessment it belongs to. so, I cannot see where my problem is.

Another big problem is that the cafeteria service. Although there are cafeterias in the compass,
the service is not good. The cost is not fair for students like me who pay a house rent,
transportation, print copy etc.

Most of the time we are given group works and pair works and when we are ready to do our
assignments there is no place for discussion. We kill time when we try to get a suitable place.

We travelled a long way to arrive at the compound and just before we class is started, we want to
go to the toilet. Although there are toilets around, the cleaners there close the door not to let as in
until 3:00 am, they always say “We have not finished the cleaning.” and it is common language
for different rooms.

2. What challenges you face in your over all life?

Oh that is also a big issue. I can definitely say everything is expensive. Let’s begin with the
house rent: you cannot easily afford a house. If you plan and decide to travel long journey, you
can get a room about 2000 or above birr. Then the transportation will also cost you a big amount
of money. The distance has also its own impact on your study as it kills your time and energy. If
you want to get a house nearby (1:50-3:00 birr travel), you need to pay about 3000 or above birr
excluding transportation, food and other costs.

When we compare our salary and the costs we are paying, not including family issues, it is not
fair at all.
