SPEAKING FORECAST QUÝ 3/2023

SPEAKING PART 1

Part 1: Work or studies

. What subjects are you studying?

Answer: I'm currently a student in high school, so there are about 13 subjects
that I have to study over three years. However, my major emphasizes three
subjects: Math, Literature, and English.
. Why did you choose to study that subject?

Answer: At first, I was torn between Literature and Physics, as I can do well
in Math and English. But then I realized I'm the type of dreamer so I chose to
follow my current major.
. Do you prefer to study in the mornings or the afternoons?

Answer: Studying in the morning will always be beneficial as I wake up fresh

after a good sleep, thus it helps me to retain the content faster. Furthermore, in
the morning, there is a general silence everywhere which ameliorates my
concentration!
. What technology do you use when you study?

Answer: I attend online classes and compose my essays on my laptop,

especially now that the covid epidemic has spread. I now handle my
assignments online, which is a blessing in disguise because it's so much
simpler than it used to be.

Từ vựng:
 emphasize: nhấn mạnh
 be torn between: không thể chọn được (giữa 2 lựa chọn)
 ameliorate: cải thiện
 a blessing in disguise: trong cái rủi có cái may
 eager to: háo hức, hăm hở
 labor force: nguồn lực lao động
 respectable wage: mức lương cao
 cover someone’s expenses: chi trả chi phí cho ái đó
 be constrained: ngượng nghịu, bối rối
 be mundane: bình thường
 on end: không ngừng nghỉ
 be nostalgic: hoài niệm
 be handy: tiện lợi

Part 1: Running
. Do you go running a lot?

Answer: Unfortunately, my busy schedule leaves me with little downtime to

regularly go running. However, I still try my best to go for an early morning
jog on the weekend to have some much needed peace of mind after
a hectic week.
. Where do you usually go running?

Answer: I usually go for a run in Nghia Do Park, which is right by my

apartment fortunately. What’s more, the park is always brimming with
people every time I go running there, and the scenery is breathtaking!
. When was the last time you went running?

Answer: I last went jogging on Sunday, two weeks ago. It was a lovely day
with perfect weather, and I had my favorite music to keep me company. I
would have gone running last weekend too had I not been snowed
under with assignments from my university courses.
. What do you think of running as a sport?

Answer: Running is actually my favorite sport. When I was small, I

remember being hooked on broadcasts of athletics competitions. Actually,
athletes like Usain Bolt used to be my idols, as I really admired
their sprinting abilities.

Từ vựng
 downtime: thời gian rảnh
 peace of mind: sự thư thái
 hectic: bận rộn
 brimming with people: rất đông đúc
 keep sb company: ở cùng với ai

Part 1: Chatting
. Do you like chatting with friends?

Answer: Talking with friends is a highlight of my day, as it provides me

a reprieve from my sedentary lifestyle. I cannot go without sending any
messages or talking to my friends for a lengthy period of time,
. What do you usually chat about with friends?

Answer: I talk with my friends about everything under the sun, really: from
random anecdotes from our daily lives to discussions about a movie that we
all want to watch. Additionally, I have made a lot of overseas buddies because
of our shared interest on reality TV, and we often initiate discussions about
new episodes of our favorite shows.
. Do you prefer to chat with a group of people or with only one friend?

Answer: I definitely would rather chat one-on-one than participating in a

group discussion. I am not exactly the loudest person in the room, so I find it
hard to get a word in edgeways in big group conversations. Besides, when
chatting in groups, there may be people I am less acquainted with, which puts
me on edge. Meanwhile, chatting with only one friend means that I have their
undivided attention, and we can chat about more personal topics that may be
awkward in a group setting.
. Do you prefer to communicate face-to-face or via social media?

Answer: I am more partial to talking face-to-face, because I have

trouble keeping track of online messages. More often than not, replying to
my friends just slips my mind, which can be interpreted as rude. Besides, I
also face difficulties in conveying the tones of online messages: I can never
tell if someone is sarcastic, for example!
. Do you argue with friends?

Answer: Of course, every group of friends have had their fair shares
of bickering and mine are no exception. But after we take some time to
ourselves to cool off, me and my friends would make up and apologize to one
another, which is why my friend group has stuck together through thick and
thin.

Part 1: Concentration
. Did you stay focused in class when you were a child?

I tried to but obviously I couldn’t. My attention span was quite short and my
concentration could waver very easily when my deskmate made small
talk with me or basically I found the lesson I was having quite tedious.
. Are you a focused person?

Well, to my way of thinking, it depends on every single situation. I do exert

myself to stay engaged with whatever I’m doing but there will be some
occasions when I feel exhausted or overwhelmed with everything. As a result,
I don’t feel like doing anything and just want to scroll my phone right away.
. How do you stay focused?

Many ways. The easiest is to put your phone far away from your workspace
and turn off all notifications. On top of that, it can be playing some soft music
or going out to a co-working space. Believe me, the moment when you see
people around you pulling their weight to complete their tasks, your
motivation will rise immediately.
. Is it easy to stay focused in a noisy environment?

There’s no way. Apparently, noise is a huge distraction and we tend to stay

away from it when working or studying. I’m extremely sensitive even if it is
just a faint sound, and headphones won’t come in useful all the time for me
so I just avoid putting myself in those kinds of situations.

. Did you have a bike when you were young?

Yes, and I think most of us did. Back in the day, I used to have a small
yellow bike that I rode to primary school on a daily basis. It was a fantastic
experience though.
. Did you ride a bike when you were little?

Yes I did, totally, and what’s more, cycling was one of my pastimes when I
was around 6. Besides, I firmly believe that riding a bicycle at an early stage
will teach children how to keep balance and foster their sense of
independence.
. Did you ride a bike to school?

In fact, I did that almost everyday since I was in third grade. For me, it was
an indescribable joy when you could observe the world you were living in
like the streets, toy stores, playgrounds, etcetera. Due to all of these, my
childhood became more memorable and meaningful as well.
. Do you ride a bike when you go out now?

Well, it depends on different purposes and also the distance. For example,
when I have to go to my office or my university, I prefer to ride a motorbike
simply because these destinations are too far away. However, if my desire is
to work out a bit, I’ll pick my bike right away.

is the best time of each week to unwind right after an exhausting week of my
9-to-5. On Saturdays, I usually spend time with my loved ones.
. What is your least favorite day?

Oddly enough, I truly despise my Sundays. This is a downside of my work

schedule, which is extremely busy on the weekends. I wish to have a normal
Sunday in which I can relax like other people, but I don’t think that is going to
happen any time soon.
. What is the busiest day of the week for you?

Wednesdays are the days that wear me out the most. I have to wake up at 6
AM, and then go to school for the entire day. Sadly, it doesn’t end there. I
have a part-time job in which I have to pick up my shift from 7 PM to 9 PM.
I usually hit the hay the moment I go home.
. Is there anything that you do every day?

I have a daily habit of listening to lectures given by Buddhist monks. I often

listen to these while cooking, cleaning, or showering. These talks are full of
useful advice, and they give me peace of mind after a day of hard work.
. What do you usually do on weekends?

Most people spend their weekends with their family and friends, but because I
work for a restaurant, weekends are my busiest time of the week. We usually
receive so many customers that we are always as busy as Grand Central
Station, therefore I am often at work on Saturdays and Sundays.
. Are weekdays and weekends the same for you?

I have a diverse taste in films, but I particularly enjoy watching thought-

provoking dramas and science fiction movies. For instance, 'Inception' and
'The Shawshank Redemption’ are among my all-time favorites because of
their compelling storytelling and character development.
. Did you often watch films when you were a child?

Yes, I was quite a movie enthusiast as a child. I used to watch films regularly,
especially during the weekends. My family and I would often have movie
nights, which is a cherished memory from my childhood.
. Did you ever go to the cinema alone as a child?

No, I didn't go to the cinema alone as a child. It was more of a family or

friends' outing for me. Going to the movies was a social and enjoyable
experience, so I preferred to watch films with others.
. Do you often go to the cinema with your friends?

Yes, I enjoy going to the cinema with my friends. It's a fun way to spend time
together and discuss the movie afterward. We usually plan these outings when
there's a new release or a film we're all excited to watch.

secrets, connecting cultures, and understanding global issues all in one subject.
I’m also obsessed with exploring nature as a form of mental escapism from
the hustle and bustle of daily life.
. Do you think Geography is useful?

Certainly, we broaden our horizons through Geography. What I find most

helpful about Geography is its ability to provide a holistic view of the world,
which allows us to explore various aspects of our planet, including its physical
features, climate, and ecosystems. Through Geography, I've learned to
appreciate mother nature and the interconnection of different natural
phenomena.
. Have you ever learnt Geography?

Yes, I've studied Geography since primary school. I truly appreciate

the hands-on aspect of Geography. The subject has definitely sparked such a
great sense of curiosity and adventure in me up until now.
. Do you want to be a Geography teacher?

As much as I’m interested in Geography, I don’t think I’m the perfect fit for
the role. You know, it takes more than the love for the subject to become a
teacher. Instead, I’d love to explore the world through travelling and share
my practical experiences to others as a content creator.

Yes, I have, multiple times actually. I place a huge importance on creating

the gifts on my own because it shows the love and appreciation I have towards
the recipients.
. Have you ever received a great gift?

Yes, I have. It’s only once in a blue moon when I feel disappointed about the
presents I get. In my opinion, a great gift doesn’t have to cost a fortune, it can
be a cheap thrill that both people enjoy.
. What would you consider when choosing a gift?

There are various aspects I would take into account when selecting a gift.
The most decisive one would be the recipient’s needs and interests. Another
aspect can be my own budget for the gift. It should be reasonable enough so
that I don’t need to tighten my belt afterwards.
. Do you think you’re good at choosing gifts?

. Do you like to stay in a place with a lot of noise?

It really depends on how severe the noise can get. I am definitely not a fan
of a turbulent neighbourhood where people keep shouting and partying all
night long, especially over the weekends. However, I do enjoy the hustling
and bustling lifestyle in big Asian cities or any Chinatown overseas as it
gives me such a lively feeling.
. What kinds of noises are there in the area where you live?

There are a gazillion types of noises around my neighbourhood. For example,

the honking sounds coming from cars and motorbikes during rush hours when
people come back home from work. The chattering sounds of
my nosy neighbours. The baby crying, people quarrelling, and so on.
. Do you want to move to a quieter place?

Not really. I am quite content with where I am living right now. Although
admittedly, the noises may be out of hand at times, generally speaking, they
are bearable. Besides, I also prioritise the ease of commuting over
the placidity of the neighbourhood.
. Do you think there is too much noise in today’s world?

Yes, I agree. Apparently, the world nowadays is much more rowdy than it was
years ago. Different sounds have emerged to life, especially in big cities, to
the point that some places have been experiencing noise pollution even.
. Is making noise one of people’s rights?

I would not say it is a human’s right to make noises. Yes, you can chat with
your friends, you can sing, you can throw a party with a bunch of people.
However, the noise should be kept to the extent that it does not bother the

Part 1: Musical instruments

. Have you ever learned to play a musical instrument?

Yes, I have. When I was 5 years old, my dad signed me up for a summer
piano lesson, even though I dropped out just a year later for personal reasons.
Later on, I continued to learn to play the piano on my own because I still had a
huge passion for this beautiful instrument. Lately, I have also picked up the
ukulele as a hobby.
. What musical instruments do you enjoy listening to the most?

Despite playing the piano, I love the graceful sound of the violin the most. My
favourite composer is Tchaikovsky, who arguably was the greatest composer
of the Romance musical era. He wrote some of the most delightful
yet tormenting violin music. A must-listen for violin music lovers, in my
opinion, is Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D Major.
. Do you think children should learn to play an instrument at school?

Surely. I believe that the benefit of learning to play an instrument is just as

great as any other school subject. From my point of view, playing a musical
instrument is not only an interesting hobby that helps you destress but also a
boost to your own cognitive ability as the brain is stimulated to
increase memory retention.
. Do you think music education is important to children?

Yes, I totally agree that learning music is crucial to children since musical
intelligence is one of the 9 types of intelligence that humans can develop.

Answer: Well I think it depends on where I’m going. But most of the time I
would be just fine wearing minimalist clothing pieces that are mostly black
and white, because I think these colors have so much depth and they can
sometimes even turn casual pieces into something more sophisticated.
. Do you prefer to wear comfortable and casual clothes or smart clothes?

Answer: Personally I much gravitate towards casual clothes. Although I

agree that presenting yourself in smart clothes makes you look sharp and
people would have a good impression that you take pride in your
appearance, I still can’t let go of the fact that I would always be sweaty and
uncomfortable when I’m wearing formal clothes.
. Do you like wearing T-shirts?

Answer: Without a doubt. I think T-shirts are staple pieces and you can style
them into combinations of various fashion styles. You can tone it down to as
casual as you want, or you can go all out and be extravagant when wearing it
with other statement pieces.
. Do you spend a lot of time choosing clothes?

Answer: At times I do. Like when I’m going out with my friends or if

Part 1: Map
. Do you often use maps?

Answer: Well, maps come in handy from time to time. Especially when I’m
driving to new places, the map app definitely helps me find the
quickest routes and I would turn it on throughout my driving so I don’t get
lost.
. Do you use paper maps?

Answer: Honestly, I much prefer turning on my phone and using the e-map. I
find it a lot easier to access unlike the traditional paper map, which you have
to fold in and out whenever you want to see the destinations or to simply put
the map away. Also, digital maps can show you where to turn, and how far
along you have been on the road just by following the built-in navigation
function.
. How often do you use maps on your phone?

Answer: Well definitely not on a daily basis because I have quite a good
memory to recall the exact routes to the address of places I’ve been to, even
only once. In saying that though, I find myself using the digital map
constantly whenever I’m solo traveling to steer clear of possible kidnapping
as the last thing I want is getting lost into some dark alley.
. Do you have maps at home?
Answer: No, not any in sight. All the few times that I bought paper maps

In rural areas, fishing is a favourite pastime amongst locals of all ages.
However, few city dwellers are keen on fishing.
. Do you like eating fish?

To be honest, I'm not particularly fond of fish-based dishes. Actually, when I

was young, I used to get fish bones stuck in my throat so frequently that I
have lost my appetite for fish since then.
. Have you ever been to a place where there are lots of fish around you?

Yes, I have been to a place surrounded by fish several times. My most vivid
memory was a few years ago when my family went snorkelling in Phu Quoc
Island. I found myself surrounded by schools of fish, completely immersed in
the beauty of the vibrant marine life.
. Have you seen any movies with lots of fish?

readily lend a helping hand whenever they are struggling.
. Do your parents teach you how to help others?

Yes, I've been taught the values of kindness and support from a young age by
my parents. However, they teach me the importance of supporting others
through their actions rather than words. They always go out of their way to
help others, which serves as a great example for me to follow.
. Did your parents help you a lot when you were young?

During my childhood, I encountered many difficulties, such as making

friends and doing homework, etc. My parents were supportive; however, they
preferred to not intervene right after seeing me struggling. Instead, they let
me figure things out on my own, allowing me to develop my problem-
solving skills and nurture my independence.
. What have you done to help the elderly?
I frequently provide assistance to senior citizens, specifically by
offering guidance on how to use computers and smartphones. You know,

loved the idea of helping people and doing them a world of good. I was
also highly influenced by my parents who are both doctors.
. Are you the kind of person who sticks to dreams?

Well, my answer changes depending on different scenarios. I am a realist,

therefore I often mix reality with dreams in order to get the best out of
myself. While I believe that dreams can be a powerful factor, we need to know
whether they are feasible or not.
. What is your dream job?

I was born into a family of doctors, therefore, I have strong enthusiasm for
the healthcare field. After being exposed to the dentistry community, I fell in
love with the profession and wish to become one someday.
. Do you think you are an ambitious person?

Absolutely. I will often feel uneasy with myself if I know I am not living up

unique city infrastructure into consideration, I chose a motorbike as my
daily transportation to optimize traveling in the city.
. What’s the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?

The citizens in Hanoi often choose motorbikes as their main means of

transportation since the hectic traffic often causes difficulties for car drivers
and the public transport system is rather underdeveloped.
. How far is it from your home to work/school?

My campus is only a stone’s throw away from my house so traveling there

only takes around 5 minutes if I go on my motorbike and another extra 5 if I
walk.
. Do you think people will drive more in the future?

I don’t think driving will become more popular in the future. The world’s
population is increasing at a very high rate, as a consequence, having more
people on the road will only create more problems. As a solution, public
transport systems will be more developed in the future to provide people with
safe and quick commutes.
Từ vựng:
 Take something into consideration: Xem xét cái gì đó
 Optimize: tối ưu
 Hectic: hỗn độn
 A stone’s throw away: khoảng cách rất gần

. Does it rain much in your city?

Well, I was born and raised in a tropical area, so I’d say that we have rains
quite often, especially during summer months when torrential rain happens
every now and then. That’s why I always carry an umbrella with me wherever
I go.
. Would you like to live in a dry or wet place?

Personally, I’m fed up with the unbearable humidity in my city all the time.
That’s why I prefer a dry place for a change as the heat may feel a lot more
comfortable.
. Would you change your plan if it rained?

It depends actually. Most of the time I will strive to stick to my

plans because I’m an organized person. However, if things got worse, perhaps
I would take preventative measures such as rescheduling meetings or
planning extra travel time.

Part 1: Weather
. What’s the weather like in your country?

Since I’m currently living in the North of the country, I would say the
weather is pretty unpredictable and even extreme at times. For instance,
there are some days when it can be scorching hot in the morning, but
quickly becomes freezing cold in the evening. You’ve got to be prepared
for all seasons in just one day.
. Do you prefer hot or cold weather?

Well I think I’m more in favor of hot weather simply because I can’t put
up with the bitterly cold winter which usually makes me feel depressed.
Moreover, the sunshine and the heat actually brightens my day and I’m
inspired to do some outdoor activities such as hanging out or playing
sports.
. Do you prefer wet or dry weather?

Personally, I’m fed up with the unbearable humidity in my city all the time.
That’s why I prefer a dry place for a change as the heat may feel a lot more
comfortable.
. Are you in the habit of checking the weather forecast? When/How often?

Always, to be honest. Since I want to be well-prepared for different

weather conditions, I check the weather forecast on a regular basis,
especially before going out. Everytime I turn on my smartphone, a
notification and an icon of the weather forecast will pop up and let me
know the temperature and the type of weather outside so that I can
choose the most suitable outfit for that day.
. What do you think are the effects of climate change in recent years?

In my opinion, global warming has numerous adverse effects not only on

humans but other species as well. A wide range of animals are on the
verge of becoming extinct due to severe weather patterns that relate to
climate change namely forest fires or rising sea level. The change in global
temperature also results in water shortages or increased draughts, leading
to many people facing a lack of food as well.
. Would you like to visit other cities that have different climates from
where you live?

Sure, it would be fantastic if I got a chance to experience different

climates in other regions. As I mentioned before that the humidity in

Honestly speaking, I’m not a technophile so I don’t have a huge preference

for robots. I find applying such a cutting-edge invention to my daily life
rather complicated.
. Do you like robots to work at your home?

Well, I guess yes, I do. Although I’m quite low-tech, my father is pretty good
at using technological devices, especially automatic robots which help to do
household chores. And I have to admit that they actually help me to cut down
on a huge amount of workload.
. Do you want to take a car in which the robot is the driver?

I suppose it’s worth giving it a try. I think it would be extremely time-saving

and convenient if I can multitask like meeting deadlines or doing homework
on my way to school without having to worry about driving the car by myself.
. Will robots replace human beings in the workplace completely?

In my opinion, I don’t think robots can totally take over the position of human

accomplish them precisely and effortlessly. However, they can only be
operated with the delicate touch of humans.

filter coffee. A cup of coffee on a daily basis gets me going in the morning
and keeps me awake till the lunch break.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference. I restock my living room

cupboard with both types of beverages frequently so I can serve my guests
whatever they like.
. Do you like drinking coffee at home or at a coffee shop?

Well, I have to choose, I would love to hang out with my friends at

an aesthetic coffee shop. Although I have everything I need in order to make a
good cup of coffee at home, the taste of coffee made at stores is not the same.
Moreover, the decoration and the vibe brought by coffee shops are ideal for
me and my friends to take good photos.
. Why do some people dislike coffee or tea?
I guess caffeine might be the reason for this. A lot of my friends will pull an
all-nighter as long as they drink coffee and tea, even only the smallest
amount. Besides, some individuals are health-conscious so they would avoid
drinking these two types of beverages.

neighborhood. People living here are so friendly and hospitable, even though
sometimes their warm heart overwhelms me. There are quite many amenities
around here like coffee shops or convenience stores that open 24/24, so I am
very pleased.
. Where do you like to go in that area?

Answer: There’s an adorable coffee shop nearby that I frequent. It is

designed in a vintage style that I am really keen on, and the service is
just impeccable. Moreover, the taste of most beverages there are pleasant. I
have tried almost everything on the menu and especially get addicted to the
cappuccino.
. Do you know any famous people in your area?

Answer: Not really. My neighbors are mostly white-collars. They have

their 9-5 jobs and only come home for dinners. Even if they are well-known in
their fields, I don’t think I am aware of that.
. What are some changes in the area recently?

Answer: I notice that the authorities have made some amendments on the
nearby road, specifically they have placed a new traffic light. The road has
been so crowded with vehicles, the locals feel terrified crossing the road so
they made a fuss about it, that they need to feel secure in their own
neighborhood.

mostly taken care of in zoos, national parks or aquariums. Since a majority of
wild species are endangered, it is the responsibility of the government to keep
them from people with bad intentions.
. Have you ever been to a zoo or a safari park?

Answer: Fortunately, I had the chance to visit both of them when I was a kid.
I can still vividly remember the first time I saw a real lion which was big and
scary enough to terrify me. Nevertheless, the trip was intriguing and fun.
. What is the wild animal you would like to see in the wild?

Answer: Honestly, I am a big fan of cheetahs. I was fascinated by their speed

and the way they hunt for their food, which I have only seen on TV. As
cheetahs thrive in vast expanses of land, such as savannahs, people spot them
in real life once in a blue moon.
. Are there TV programs about wild animals in your country?

Answer: As the topic about wild animals has never been my cup of tea, I

which I am so grateful for.
. Do you often go out with your friends?

Answer: Definitely yes, we hang out all the time. It is nice to have them
around cheering you up, especially when you are down in the dumps. I think
that’s what friends are for.
. Where do you often meet each other?

Answer: That depends. I often meet my friends at school because our favorite
place to meet up is the cafe next to my house. It holds many memories of us,
like the first time we worked together as a team or the moment when we
reconciled after a huge fight.
. What do you usually do with your friends?

Answer: Playing board games with my friends has me in high spirits. All of
my friends are competitive and ambitious so after every game, we usually end
up yelling at or making fun of each other. Surprisingly, this is still our favorite
activity when we hang out.
. Do you have a friend you have known for a long time?

. Do you like this city? Why?

Answer: Absolutely, yes. I have everything I need right in my neighborhood.

Since I was born and raised here in Ho Chi Minh City, I love the food, the

entertaining services. Also, I’m kind of into the fast-paced modern lifestyle in
big cities, specifically HCM City.

now. I moved here shortly after completing my studies and have since
established a comfortable and fulfilling life in this city.

opportunity for me to catch up on movies or TV shows that I have been
wanting to watch.
. Do you usually spend your days off with your parents or with your
friends?

Answer: I usually spend my days off with a mix of both my parents and
friends. Family holds a position of utmost importance in my life, so I ensure
to spend quality time with my parents, whether it involves sharing meals
together, going on day trips to explore new places, or engaging
in heartfelt conversations. I also value my friendships and enjoy spending
time with my friends, like going out for coffee, exploring new places, or
engaging in shared hobbies.
. What would you like to do if you had a day off tomorrow?
Answer: If I had a day off tomorrow, I would love to dedicate it to self-care
and exploration. I would start the day with a relaxing morning routine,

visit a nearby museum or art gallery, as I have a keen interest in art and

Answer: I have been living with my parents for 18 years and now I think I’m
gonna move out. However, as I'm still an undergraduate, I think living in a
rental apartment will be the most suitable, considering my budget. I can
share it with others to reduce the amount of money I have to spend on housing
and do something more useful.
. Are the transport facilities to your home very good?

Answer: Well, near my house, there are many public services as well as high-
quality transportation systems. Right next to my house is a bus stop which is
convenient for me to go to school. Moreover, in my area, there is also
a skytrain station for people who want to commute to their workplace at a
faster speed.
. Do you prefer living in a house or a flat?

Answer: I would opt for a nice house as I believe that I can have my own
space in an independent house. I can have my own garden with various
flowers and try different decorating styles.
. Please describe the room you live in
Answer: Well, the flat is not really roomy, but it’s just right for us, cause you
know, we can't ask for more. It is styled in a minimal way. All the walls are
painted plain white. All the rooms have big windows with bright curtains
adding a decorative touch to them. The interior design is simple, yet
convenient.
. What part of your home do you like the most?

Answer: Maybe it is my bedroom-cum-study room. Although it’s a small

flat, we still manage to divide it into two small rooms. It’s where I can do

comfort zone or hideaway. After a long and stressful working day, I just want
to be aloneroom, chilling out with a movie or something.
. How long have you lived there?

Answer: I have been living here for the better part of the last 2 years. I started
to move to this flat since I got the news that I was admitted into my dream
university. At first, I felt super out of place in this flat and constantly
homesick; but I gradually warmed up to it and learned how to live
independently of my family.
. Do you plan to live there for a long time?

Answer: Not at all as my studio apartment now is too small for me to pursue
my hobby of gardening or even owning a pet. In the future, I want to live in a
big house with my family and have my own garden.
. What’s the difference between where you are living now and where you
have lived in the past?

Answer: There’re some differences, to be honest. The most distinctive one is

the size. The new house is pretty big with great amenities compared to the old
one, which was a little rundown. And the new place is right at the center of
the city, making it very convenient and lively.
. Can you describe the place where you live?

Answer: Because we are sophomores, I can only afford a modest room

because we are tight on our budget. The best thing about my apartment,
though, is that all amenities are available in the vicinity of my location,
including supermarkets, hospitals, restaurants and the likes. I can grab
anything I need in a matter of minutes.
. What room does your family spend most of the time in?
Answer: It’s definitely the kitchen where my family has our meal together.

family a lot of the events that have happened to me throughout the day.
. What’s your favorite room in your apartment/ house?

Answer: I prefer my bedroom most due to its convenience and privacy.

else. Moreover, in my own space I can do whatever I want without bothering
others.

pleasant. I can have a chance to do whatever I want to do like singing or
dancing without being judged just like in public.
. Do you think it is important to live in a comfortable environment?

really let their hair down after a hard working day. For me, a cozy room can
make me feel more pleasant when I can do anything I want in my own house.
. Do you live in a house or a flat?

Answer: I used to live in my house for 18 years but then I had to move to the
capital city to pursue higher education. For the better part of the last 2 years, I
have been living in a studio apartment in the small side street in the heart of
the city with my buddy.
. Who do you live with?

Answer: As I have mentioned earlier, I live with my buddy and she was a
classmate of mine in high school. We really hit it off right from the first time
we met and we have a lot of things in common. She is very organized, and she
also has a knack for cooking, so it's good to have her as a roommate.
. What do you usually do in your flat?

money if I do two jobs at the same time.
. Do you remember one of your teachers?

Answer: Actually, since I have a good memory, I can remember all of my

competitive and stressful national university entrance exam..

did I break the handle, I also left an enormous scratch on the bag. Now I know
when to leave well alone and let the professionals do their job.
. Did anybody teach you how to fix things when you were a child?

Answer: I recall my dad showing me how to sharpen a knife when it got too
dull to use. I guess that is not really fixing, but it’s the only thing on the top of
my head. Since I don’t know much about mending and patching things up, I
would like to gain a deeper understanding of simple manual jobs around the
house to help my family, and to save some money as well.
. Do you think it is necessary for people to learn to fix things?

Answer: If you ask me, I would have to say no. You can hire almost any kind

electricians, you name it. Plus, it takes a lot of time and effort to DIY.
Therefore I think it’s not a big deal if you don’t want to learn to repair things.
. What do you do when a thing is broken and cannot be fixed?

as my favorite TV channel to watch was Disney. I learned most of my spoken
English through a cartoon series called Phineas and Ferb.
. What languages would you like to learn in the future?

Answer: As of now, I’m learning spoken Korean with my best friend. We aim
to win a Korean scholarship and to go there together. Further down the line,
when I’m in Korea, I reckon that I will definitely have to learn written Korean,
which uses an hieroglyphic alphabet.
. How do you learn a foreign language?

Answer: I always like to familiarize myself with a new one by watching and
listening to the natives. That is how I learned English and Korean. Sitcoms are
a must when you follow this method, as it helps you learn the language
and blow off steam at the same time.
. How are languages taught and learned in your school?

Answer: Well, unlike the approach I’ve just mentioned, we kick off a new
foreign language syllabus with grammar lessons. During that lesson, other
students and I must figure out how to correctly use a grammar structure in a

to relax and recharge is something I truly look forward to. It allows me to
unwind and engage in activities that I enjoy.

Answer: Certainly it’s Monday. Monday marks the beginning of the work or

long list of pending tasks and deadlines that need to be accomplished.
Therefore, it can be quite challenging to transition from a period of rest and
relaxation to the demands and responsibilities.
. What is the busiest day of the week for you?

Answer: For me, it’s Wednesday. Wednesday is positioned right in the middle

with a full schedule of classes, meetings, or work-related responsibilities that
need to be addressed.
. Is there anything that you do everyday?

and creativity for me. Whether it's a captivating story, a thought-
provoking article, or a beautifully written poem, reading has the power to

Answer: As a homebody, I typically spend my weekend doing house

on Sunday I do oblige my friends’ wish of going out and having lunch with
them since my weekday schedule can be very hectic.
. Are weekdays and weekends the same for you?

I’m less likely to have a toothache or become overweight.
. Did you eat ice cream as a child?

Answer: It’s ironic that I’m now trying to abstain from sugar - I used

memory in my life.

an overstatement to say summer marks the dominance of ice cream!

Answer: Honestly, making an ice cream of my own is beyond my wildest

helping me carry bare essentials for schoolwork such as laptop and notebook
comfortably while traveling to school. This object has now become part and
parcel of my life.
. Do you change your bags often?

Answer: I’ve always been a firm believer in the saying “Old but gold”, so

fingers of one hand.

like this.
. Is there anything you dislike about it?

Answer: Frankly speaking, my city has a slow pace of life and this isn't a cup

why a lot of people in the city tend to move to other big cities when they get
older.
. How long have you been living there?

Answer: I have been living there since my childhood, it has been 18 years
now. It is sad that I have to say goodbye to this dear land as I am moving to
the city and pursuing my study at university.
. Do you like living there?

. Do you think you will continue living there for a long time?

Answer: I’m not really sure, to be honest. I’m not a person who plans my

here, so it somehow can fill me with a sense of connection.

to natural areas, especially beaches. Recently, all the beaches have been turned
into tourist attractions with adequate top-notch facilities.

SPEAKING PART 2 + 3

Part 2: Describe a piece of clothing you enjoy wearing

You should say:

What it is like

When and where you bought it

How often you wear it

And explain why you enjoy wearing it

Answer: One specific piece of clothing that has always been my first choice when it
comes to fashion is a pleated skirt which I bought a couple of years ago. I picked it
up for an extremely reasonable price of nearly 8 dollars at an outlet store in the
outskirts, where they sell different types of authentic clothing from well-known
brands at an affordable price.

Despite its unbelievably cheap price, this skirt turned out to be a staple in my
wardrobe all the time when choosing daily outfits. This is a plaid skirt in coffee
brown color made of cotton which fits me very well. The material is
absolutely durable since it still feels soft though I’ve used it for nearly three years.

I wear this skirt almost everywhere as it is easy to go with other items and never goes
out of style. I can dress it up with different types of shirts or pair it with any kind of
shoes, and it always looks stylish. However, I have been really into this skirt not only
for its versatility but also because of its specialty as the very first garment that I
purchased on my own with the first monthly salary. Therefore, it has much more
sentimental value to me compared to other items.

All in all, I believe this dress has positively affected my fashion gout about mixing
and matching clothes elegantly. Wearing this skirt makes me feel confident about
myself and shows to the world a part of my identity. Although it has faded somewhat,
this piece of clothing will always be my favorite for many years to come.

Từ vựng:
 a staple in my wardrobe: một phần không thể thiếu trong tủ đồ
 versatility: tính đa đụng

 mix and match: phối đồ
 durable: bền
 go out of style: lỗi mốt, lỗi thời
 for many years to come: trong tương lai dài

Part 3:
. Do you like buying clothes?
Definitely yes. Like most girls, I’m a slave to fashion. I usually spend a large
amount of money on clothing as a way of self-rewarding after any
achievements. I usually go for luxurious brands as they would offer me a
timeless look with high quality and unique products that can be found
nowhere.
. What kind of clothes do most people wear in your country?

From what I’ve seen, most people prefer to dress up casually when they go
out with basic items like shirts or dresses. However, when it comes to formal
meetings, a suit would be prioritized in most cases. It depends on many factors
such as gender or age group.
. Under what circumstances would people in your country wear formal
clothes?

As I mentioned before, meetings or conferences are where formal clothes are

most likely to be seen as they help to create a sense of politeness. Moreover,
celebrations such as weddings or engagement ceremonies would also require
formal attire of the attendants.
. What is the difference between the clothing of the elderly and the young?

From what I’ve seen, the fashion style of the youngsters is in stark contrast to
that of senior people. For instance, the young usually prefer revealing
clothes and sporty outfits such as skirts, sleeveless blouses and shorts because
they consider clothes to be part of their identity and a way to show their
personality. On the other hand, the growns-ups may prioritize a more
traditional and simple style as the mindset of having enough clothes to wear is
a privilege that has been rooted in older people’s minds.
. When do people in your country wear traditional clothes?

It’s safe to say that Vietnamese prefer to wear traditional clothes on special
occasions, especially during Lunar New Year as it’s one of the most important
celebrations in the country. Additionally, a wedding and engagement
ceremony are the perfect time to dress up in the national costume. The
Vietnamese Ao dai is always appreciated by the young and the old, and its
elegant lines flatter both men and women in any celebrations.
. Does the climate affect what people wear?

Absolutely yes. The temperature is the most obvious factor that affects your
choice of clothes. On hot days, you may opt for lighter clothing such as
shorts, t-shirts or sunglasses. However, you may rather choose heavier items
such as coats, jackets and scarves to stay warm on freezing cold days.

Part 2: Describe a talk you gave to a group of people

You should say:

Who you gave the talk to

What you gave the talk about

Why you gave the talk

And explain how you felt about the talk

Answer: One of the most memorable speech experiences that comes to my mind is
the first public speech that I made in my college last year. The story began when the
Students’ Union decided to organize a speaking competition and I was chosen to be
the contestant of my class. To be honest, this was the very first time I’d ever done
such a thing and I had no prior experience in public speaking; however, I still chose
to give this speech as I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and express my
gratitude to my beloved ones.

I vividly remember walking into the auditorium where the event was being held with
not only worries but excitement as well. The audience consisted of a panel of judges,
my fellows, teachers and parents as well. The speech I delivered was about the
importance of friendship in our life, so I ended up talking about the impacts of
friendship on my life and how it helps me go through ups and downs by adding some
personal stories. When I went on the stage, facing the stares and silence from the
crowd, my mind completely went blank and I felt like this was going to be the worst
moment in my life. As I spoke, I couldn’t help having butterflies in my stomach;
however, the nods and expectant eyes from the audience encouraged me to keep
going. I knew that my speech was a mess at times with long pauses or self correction,
but I still managed to talk until the end with all the inner strength

To conclude, the overall experience of giving this speech was somehow terrifying but
rewarding as well. It has motivated me to develop a passion for public speaking, so I
began putting more effort into practicing English speaking as I hope to challenge
myself to give another speech in the future.

 prior experience: kinh nghiệm trước đây
 auditorium: hội trường

Part 3:
. What benefits does the internet bring to communication?

Communication over the internet can be instantaneous , allowing people to

send and receive messages in real-time. Thanks to the advancement of
technology, it has greatly improved the speed and efficiency of
communication, helping people to stay connected and share ideas regardless
of geographic barriers. Moreover, the internet helps communication become
time-saving and cost-effective compared to traditional forms of
communication. With the internet, people can collaborate with others in
different parts of the world, reducing the need for international phone calls or
face-to-face meetings.
. Which one is better, being a communicator or a listener?

In my opinion, both communicator and listener are indispensable elements in

a successful conversation. Being a good communicator involves the ability to
convey the information clearly and effectively. whereas being a good listener
involves actively paying attention to others to understand their perspectives
and providing support when needed. Both types of person are crucial in
different communication situations, including public speaking, negotiations or
coaching.
. What qualities does a person need to have to be a good communicator?

As I mentioned before, a good communicator consists of different traits.

Firstly they need to be empathetic, which means they are able to see things
from someone else's perspective. It also usually means they're good listeners.
Clarity in the speech also indicates their ability to convey the message
precisely and effectively. Moreover, being confident in your communication
can grow your credibility as a professional as it can help you properly
communicate your needs.
. What qualities do people need to speak in public?

From my viewpoint, public speakers can not leave behind some of these
characteristics. One of the most crucial ones is confidence, which tops the
list of qualities that contribute to a powerful presentation. A confident public
speaker is usually perceived by the audience to be more authentic, informed,
smart, and likable than a speaker who is less sure of what they are saying.
Moreover, effective public speakers need to be concise when conveying their
messages in order to avoid confusing the audience. There are plenty of other
factors such as self awareness or adaptability. However, a combination of the
aforementioned skills would make a presenter become successful.
. What kinds of people often give speeches?

A wide range of individuals usually give speeches. The most notable ones
should be politicians who give speeches to communicate their policies and
ideas to the general public. Business leaders also deliver speeches to motivate
and inspire their colleagues or public figures such as celebrities or activists
give a speech to raise awareness or draw public attention for certain concerns.
From formal settings like conferences to informal ones like weddings,
speeches always play an important role in every aspect.
. How important is it to be a good listener when communicating?

Being an effective listener is of the same importance as a good communicator.

Active listening fosters mutual understanding and respect among people, as
well as allows individuals to comprehend and respond appropriately to the
speaker’s message. Good listeners should pay attention and provide feedback
when necessary, all of which show their value to the speaker’s thoughts and
opinions. By actively listening, we may avoid misunderstandings and build
tighter bonds among people.

Part 2: Describe the game you enjoyed playing when you were younger

You should say:

What the game was

Where you played it

Who you played it with

And explain why you enjoyed playing the game

Answer: One of the most enjoyable games in my childhood was hide-and-seek - an

iconic game in many children’s memory that never got old no matter how many
times we played. The rule was simple yet exhilarating enough to make us immerse
in the game for countless hours: we would take turns to be the seeker - the one that
would close their eyes and count to 100 while the others scattered to find hiding
spots.

I would play it with my classmates or friends from the neighborhood and we often
gathered at the nearby park to play. The park was a perfect place for this game since it
offered plenty of ideal hiding spots such as bushes or trees, as well as a vast open
space to run around.

Playing hide-and-seek made me feel a sense of excitement when looking for the
perfect hiding spot, crouching behind a bush and holding my breath so as not to be
found. Even when I was the seeker, the game would turn out to be more thrilling than
ever when I surprisingly caught and tagged them before they could run away. Every
successful discovery was filled with satisfaction and a sense of triumph, which made
us totally caught up in the moment.

However, the game of hide-and-seek not only brought so much joy but also enhanced
important skills. I was able to adapt to different environments, as well as improve my
observation skills as well. Hide-and-seek was more than just a game, it built a tight
bond among us and created core memories that may last a lifetime.

quickly gaining its popularity among the public. In addition, the openness and
cultural diversity of modern society may lead to a wider range of games from
different cultures catering to an individual's interests and preferences.
. Is winning important in games?
Although a win motivates the players and shows that their practice is paid off,
it is not the sole focus in games. It is also important to take into account other
factors like the process, personal, sportsmanship and most importantly,
personal growth. Unlike competitive games where winning must be a priority,
non-competitive ones usually emphasize on the enjoyment of social
interaction and skill development rather than winning.
. Which is better, individual games or team-based games?

I believe both types of games have their own merits. Individual games allow

about it. It’s situated in the heart of downtown, just a stone’s throw from the City’s
Square. The shop is called “The Literary Escape” with an opening hour from 8 am to
10 pm. In spite of its location in the city center, the bookstore still manages to offer
customers with an open space and a spacious parking lot.

As you walk into this 3-floor shop, you’re welcomed by a cozy and relaxing
atmosphere. The shop is designed in a special way which resembles a train with many
carriages. You’ll be surrounded by plenty of shelves with countless arrays of books
of numerous categories, ranging from comics, documentaries to novels and
magazines. Due to its various genres and unique design, “The Literary Escape”
has drawn so much attention from the public since its opening two years ago and
still attracts lots of customers, not only literature enthusiasts but the general public as
well.

In my opinion, the most famous type of clothing store in Hanoi is clothing

stores due to its omnipresence around the city to cater to the diverse
preferences of the residents. There are not only main branches of well-known
brands, ranging from ordinary labels such as Zara, H&M to luxurious ones
like Dior or Chanel; but also small shops which sell all kinds of clothes for the
general public. Online clothing stores are also well-known, especially with the
young thanks to its convenience and diversity as well.

enjoyable shopping experience for the customers. All in all, boutiques are a
perfect combination of trendy merchandise and a pleasant atmosphere
that suits the needs of young shoppers.

Absolutely yes. A prime location with high visibility and accessibility can
significantly impact the store’s business. Shops situated in central or
residential areas usually benefit from increased exposure from passersby.
However, other factors such as the product quality, customer service and
pricing also need to be taken into consideration when it comes to a
business’s success.
. What is the difference between a small shop and a large shop?

In my opinion, a small shop and a big one have quite apparent differences.
Well, firstly, small stores definitely offer a smaller range of goods on daily
necessities like food, beverages or kitchen stuff due to its limited space; while
big shops can meet various demands of all kinds. What’s more, it may take
longer to go shopping in large stores as you will be surrounded by plenty of

when the only thing you need to do is to ask the shop owner for things you
want to purchase, then they will pack things for you.

Personally, price is a primary consideration for many consumers as it directly

affects their purchasing power and budget constraints. However, customer
satisfaction and loyalty may also be influenced by the quality as they often
associate high prices with premium quality and exclusivity, while lower prices
may raise concerns about the product’s worth. In fact, there is
a correlation between the two criteria so the more thorough your
understanding of buyers’ needs and preferences are, the better positioned you
will be to create a product that meets their needs.
. Why is cheap fashion so popular?

Cheap fashion is largely popular among people of all ages, mainly because it
offers diverse and fashionable items at an affordable price. This type of
fashion is often seen as a great way to keep up with the latest trends
without breaking the bank since people may be drawn to the idea of having
more clothing options at lower prices. Furthermore, it is the marketing plans of

world’s most romantic city or “The City of Light”, which is the capital of France and
also well-known for its dedication to the arts with stunning sceneries and magnificent
infrastructure.

If I were to visit Paris in the future - maybe in 3 to 5 years, I would most likely travel
by plane as there are direct flights from Hanoi to Paris, which would make the journey
convenient and time-saving. Once in Paris, renting a scooter or taking local
transportation such as the underground or the bus would be a great idea to discover
the city by myself. I would never get tired of wandering around the city to enjoy its
wonderful monuments, namely the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre Museum, taking
pleasure in its architecture while appreciating the outstanding cuisine.

. How do students who have taken a gap year differ from other students?

Students taking a gap year often have unique experiences and perspectives
compared to other peers as they have a chance to engage in activities such as
traveling, working, volunteering, and so on, which contribute to the journey of
personal development, enhance cultural awareness, and expand their
worldview. They’re equipped with a wealth of new knowledge and skills for
higher education, which is an advantage compared to pupils who proceed
directly from high school to college.

. Do teenagers usually travel with friends or alone?

Teenagers’ preferences regarding who to travel with may vary depending on

personal preferences and the nature of the trip. Going on a holiday together
serves as an opportunity to strengthen friendships and create memorable
memories with each other, while traveling alone provides a sense of freedom,
independence, and self-discovery.
. What do you think is the most desirable place for people to visit during
holiday?

The most desirable travel destination for each individual is subjective and
depends on personal interests. Some may find beaches and tropical islands the
most enticing places for relaxation, while others might be drawn to historical
sights with antique architecture and rich cultural heritage, offering a chance
for sightseeing and immersing themselves in the local traditions. Also, natural
wonders, including mountains or national parks, can be go-tos for those
seeking outdoor and adventurous recreational activities while admiring the
breathtaking landscape.
. What does tourism have to do with cultural exchange?

As people travel to a foreign destination, they have the opportunity to immerse

themselves in a new culture, interact with the locals, and experience their way
of life. This interaction promotes understanding and appreciation for cultural
diversity. Additionally, tourists often engage in activities such as visiting
historical sites, attending cultural events, and trying local cuisine, which
further deepens their understanding and respect for the host country. Likewise,
locals also benefit from tourism as they have the chance to interact with
visitors from different backgrounds, share their cultural heritage, and gain
insights into other cultures. Overall, tourism serves as a bridge that fosters
cultural understanding, respect, and mutual enrichment between travelers and
the communities they visit.

Part 2: Describe a happy experience from your childhood that you remember

You should say:

What happened

When and where it happened

Who you were with

And explain why it was a happy experience

Answer: Fortunately, my childhood was fulfilled with the most joyful memories,
whether it be with my friends or with my family, at school or at home. The most
delightful souvenir from my preadolescence, I would say, is the first time my mom
brought me and my best friend at the time to the cinema for the screening of Puss In
Boots. It was the very first time I had a chance to go to the movie theatre to watch a
movie.

I still recall vividly it was a Thursday afternoon in October. I was proudly showing
my mom the Math test on which I scored 10 earlier that day when my mom picked
me up from school. She told me that she got 2 free tickets to watch the Puss in Boots
at the National Cinema Centre that night and perhaps I could tag my best friend,
Linh along. I was completely over the moon when I heard that. I used to be so
jealous of my other friends who had been to the cinema before, but I never poured
my heart out to my mom and asked if I could go to the cinema one day. Suddenly
she told me so, it was as if she could read my mind. I was so eager to go home and
get changed into my favourite outfit, finish my dinner before heading to the movie
theatre with my friend.

The movie was only 90 minutes long but those 90 minutes were probably one of the
happiest 90 minutes of my life. Watching a cartoon on such a giant screen was totally
different from watching the same movie on my 14-inch TV at home, not to mention
the sound quality at the cinema. I definitely had a good laugh with my friend. After
the movie, I had to immediately say goodbye to her because it was already late. But
we had so much fun that the next day we continued to chat about the naughty smarty-
pants yet brave kitten soldier.

Part 3
. Why do you think some people have a better memory than others?
I don’t think that memorising ability is hereditary although it’s clear that
some people seem to have a much better recollection than others. I believe
this is mainly due to practicing. I am a fan of the game show The Brain
Vietnam where the contestants all have a “superhuman” memory. They all
shared that they had to read some books on how to improve one’s memory and
constantly practiced to reach the level they were at. Besides, age is
another factor as the elderly have a worse short-term memory than younger
people, but long-term memory is a different story.
. What kinds of things do people need to remember nowadays?

Things to remember range from the most basic ones such as brushing your
teeth everyday to the more grandiose matters or things of higher importance
such as your email password. Obviously, people need to memorise their home
address, phone number and identity number as these are the most important
information to anyone in case of an emergency. Additionally, birthdays are
just as important - not only your own birthday but also your loved one’s.
Students need to learn by heart the important maths formulae or historical
events. Working adults need to remember to submit their work before the
deadlines.
. What do you think we shouldn’t forget?

Besides personal information which is clearly unforgettable, there are plenty

of other things that we should never let slip through our mind. For example,
we should always remember to lock the door before we leave our house in
case of robbery. Never forget to turn off the gas after cooking if you don’t
want to burn your house. There are other things that are more abstract but you
should not forget either. For instance, you should never forget your parents
for bringing you up, your former teachers who gave a hand in shaping the
person you are today, and so on.
. Why do you think some people remember more of their childhood than
others?

It could be that some people have a better memory than the others. They can
easily recall many of the stuffs that occurred to them at a young age. Some
people might have a better long term memory than short term memory, so they
may forget what they had for breakfast but they can remember vividly what
happened in their neighbourhood 20 years ago. In some cases, people might
have also chosen to remember what happened in their childhood more than
what has been going on in their current life because the preadolescence
memories were so beautiful that they wanted to immerse themselves
in the reminiscence forever.
. What can people do to improve their memory?
As with any other jobs, practice makes perfect. To enhance their memory,
people may start from practicing memorising where they leave their stuffs in
order. For example, the mop should be placed in the basement next to the
washing machine, the 2 pillows should stay at the 2 corners of the couch, etc.
Then, as their memory has started getting better, people may start challenging
themselves by trying to memorise the car plates or the phone numbers of all of
their relatives. Of course, it also depends on what people want to remember
and to what extent.
. What is your earliest memory that you can still remember now?

This is a tough question. The problem is that I tend to group my memories

together, so maybe something had already happened before another but I
would not be able to tell which one went first. There is just this
one occasion that I can never forget because there is still a mark of
this instance on my hand until this day. I believe it was when I was 5, I was
running in a race with a bicycle. Then I tripped and the front wheel of the
bicycle ran over my hand when I was on the ground. I bled a lot for sure, and
the scar from the incident is still visible on my hand right now.

Từ vựng:
 hereditary: di truyền
 Recollection: hồi ức, sự ghi nhớ
 Factor: nguyên nhân
 To range from something to something: trải dài từ cái này sang cái kia
 To slip through one’s mind: trượt khỏi đầu hoặc tâm trí ai, quên
 To bring up: nuôi lớn
 To give a hand: giúp đỡ

 To enhance = to improve: cải thiện
 Occasion = Instance: sự việc (chú ý: instance còn có nghĩa là ví dụ)

Part 2: Describe a water sport you would like to try in the future

You should say:

What it is

Where you would like to try it

Whether it is difficult
And explain why you would like to try it

Answer: The water sport that I would love to try out one day is swimming. You
might be wondering why swimming? Doesn’t everybody swim anyway? That’s not
my case, I actually cannot swim, none of my family members can, in fact.

When I was in grade 9, swimming became part of our mandatory physical education
coursework. The summer before the new school year, I signed up for a summer
swimming class near my house. Unfortunately, after 10 lessons, all I could do was
float on the water surface which I would say was already a huge achievement for me.
Before that, I could not dare lift my both feet off the bottom of the swimming pool. I
think a part of me was too timid to step out of my comfort zone. After that summer
class, I went to school hoping that my official PE teacher would be able to teach me
the rest. However, it didn’t go anywhere. My PE teacher did not even jump into the
pool with us students and was only showing us the theories which I had already
known. At the end of the day, I still could not coordinate my arms and my legs - as
soon as I swung my arms, my legs would sink and so, I would not be able to move at
all. I would definitely love to try again and conquer swimming if possible.

We all know the numerous benefits that swimming offers. It is not only a nice hobby
to enjoy but also a fun sport that helps you keep fit. On the hottest summer days when
I go to the beach with my family and see people swimming, I kind of feel jealous of
them because they can just jump into the cool water to beat the heat and exercise at
the same time. Meanwhile, the heat tires me out so much that I don’t want to do
anything.

It would be great if I could pick up swimming and be able to swim in different styles
such as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly stroke… Perhaps it would open up the
possibility for me to enjoy more thrilling water sports such as surfing or even scuba
diving.

Từ vựng:
 To sign up for something: đăng kí
 timid: nhát gan
 To step out of one’s comfort zone (idiom): bước ra khỏi vùng an an toàn
 To not go anywhere: (ý nói công sức) chẳng đi đến đâu
 As soon as: ngay khi
 To conquer: chinh phục
 To keep fit: giữ sức khỏe
 To beat the heat (idiom): duy trì trạng thái mát mẻ trong khi trời nóng
 To tire somebody out: khiến ai mệt mỏi
 To pick up something: học một cách không chính thống
 thrilling: li kì, kịch tính
Part 3
. What are the advantages of water transportation?

Maritime transport contributes to the diverse transportation system of

humankind and offers several benefits. Given that 3/4 of the earth is water,
marine vehicles such as ferries, ships, or boats help deliver passengers
and cargo across the sea with ease and at a much lower operation costs,
compared to air transportation. Besides, as opposed to road and railway
transport which induce great maintenance efforts, water transportation, I
believe, incurs much lower maintenance fees. Ferries are usually very big so
they can carry a bulk load of goods and people. Water transport is pretty safe
and reliable in general.
. Why do people like to live near water?

I suppose that the scenic view plays a relatively big role. Water gives the
impression of freedom and infinity, so it feels like such a dream when you are
working from home and as you look out the window, you can see the
lakeshore with people jogging, a little bit of waves here and there. If it were
me, I personally would feel so relaxed and motivated to finish my work so I
can have a walk along the lake later. Some people who enjoy fishing would
definitely prefer living within walking distance to some body of water so that
they can walk to their favourite fishing spot and easily come back home after
spending hours catching a fish. Additionally, I think the weather also plays a
part as it’s generally cooler near the water than near the skyscrapers made of
glass in big cities.
. What kinds of water sports are popular nowadays?

I think the most prevalent one is swimming as it’s fairly accessible and easier
than most other water sports. Surfing, sailing, fishing, and canoeing, to name a
few, are also quite well-received among the youths. In my case, I usually go
kayaking or dragon boat racing with my friends in the summer. Some people
with a brave heart who enjoy more thrilling sports would even consider scuba
diving or snorkelling.
. Do you think it is good to teach swimming in school?

Yes, I believe it is actually crucial for children to learn swimming at school

from a young age. Many students nowadays look down on physical education
as it does not seem to directly put them ahead of the curve at school or in life.
However, it is important to stay healthy before you can do anything big. And
swimming as part of PE would definitely help, especially at a young age,
children enjoy splashing water so the PE classes would not be so boring.
Besides, swimming is in fact a vital skill that everyone should develop. There
are countless reports of drowning incidents every summer. Being able to swim
does not only save yourself but also save plenty of others when lifeguards
have fewer cases to rescue.
. What do you think of the people who waste water?

I believe it is definitely not nice to waste water. Because of

the abundant amount of water mother nature has given humanity, some
people take it for granted that the water will never run out and so, lavish the
water without thinking. However, water, especially fresh water is limited and
if you keep on wasting the water, it will run out eventually. Not to mention
that in some rural areas or places with much more severe weather, droughts
are common and most of the time, people there do not have enough water to
live with. We should use the water considerately so we can spare some for the
people in need. Even if you cannot think on such a macroscopic scale,
remember that you are also paying money to use water. So if you keep on
wasting the water, your hydro bills would eventually get out of hand.
. What are the characteristics of goods transported by water?

I believe that virtually any goods that can be delivered on the road or on the
railway are transportable by water. For travelling by water, boats or ferries
may carry passengers and their luggages, as long as the baggage does not
contain sharp objects like knives nor weapons nor any flammable items. For
cargo transportations serving business needs or political purposes,
transportable goods may require more detailed regulations. I would guess that
flammable objects would not be transportable, either. And parties involved
must sign off on what will be delivered across the sea in advance.

Part 2: Describe a popular person

You should say:

Who this person is

What kind of person he or she is

When you see him/her normally

And explain why you think this person is popular

Answer: When I think about a popular person, it doesn’t have to be a superstar who is
always in the spotlight, it can be an ordinary person who is well admired among
other people, and I am proud to say that’s my mom.

My mom is a full-time housewife. She is totally a wonderwoman in my eyes. When I

turned 6, she made up her mind to sacrifice her career development to step back and
raise me and my older sister. She cooks, she does the laundry, she picks us up from
school, She also became our teacher at home who taught us the very first letters and
numbers.

So far it has been a very personal experience for me. You might be wondering what
she has done to be described as “popular”, I can tell you that her popularity comes
from her own amiability. If you ask any of my neighbours, they would describe my
mom as cordial and obliging. She would say hi to everyone with a bright smile on
her face every time she runs into them. She is always willing to give a hand if a
neighbour needs any help.

And have I mentioned that she is truly a highly-acclaimed master chef within our
neighbourhood? My mom usually makes a special dish on the weekend - whether it be
Pho, or pork vermicelli - and she would spare a bowl to the family next door. Most of
the time, they would ask for another bowl because it tasted so good. As long as there
is enough Pho, my mom would give them another bowl.
They say one good turn deserves another. Because of mom’s generosity, she is very
well-loved among all the people surrounding her. Our neighbours would occasionally
give us random gifts or pass something that they no longer need onto us. And when
our family needs some help, the neighbours would be just one call away.

 In the spotlight (idiom): nằm trong tâm tâm điểm sự chú ý
 ordinary: bình thường (vd: người bình thường)
 To make up one’s mind = to decide: quyết định
 Amiability: sự thân thiện
 cordial: thân thiện
 obliging: sẵn sàng giúp đỡ
 To run into: gặp ai một cách bất ngờ
 To give a hand: giúp đỡ
 Highly-acclaimed: được công nhận
 One good turn deserves another (idiom): ở hiền gặp lành
 To pass something onto somebody: để lại cái gì cho ai (khi mình không dùng
nữa)
 To be one call away (idiom): ở sẵn đó

Part 3
. Why are some students popular in school?

There are several reasons for a student’s popularity at school. Some students
are known for their intelligence and their massive list of academic prizes they
have won. Some are popular for their athletic ability. Some are famous for
having good looks. On the other hand, some students are infamous for
their unruliness which is not encouraged. In some cases, some students are
unexpectedly famous for being a teacher’s pet.
. Is it important for a teacher to be popular?

I don’t think so. I think a teacher’s job is to take part in a person’s upbringing,
especially primary school teachers. I don’t think being popular helps either the
teacher or the student. In fact, if a teacher is notorious for physically beating
or mentally tormenting his or her disobedient students, it is actually
inappropriate. Of course there are teachers who are highly-acclaimed for their
expertise and well-received for their dedication. In that case, I think it’s good
for them as such positive public reception is a reward for their devotion.
However, some teachers might take advantage of the public’s appreciation to
overcharge students for attending their classes, for instance. So no, I don’t
think it is crucial for a teacher to be famous.
. Do you think good teachers are always popular among students?
In my opinion, it depends. First of all, the definition of a good teacher may
vary from person to person. For me, a good teacher is relatively strict in class
to keep us students behaving in a good manner, but very approachable and
easy-going outside of class so that students can always reach out if they have
any questions. But a strict teacher, even if their stringency is solely for the
students’ sake, might not be very popular among the young pupils as they
would prefer sweet words. Although I do agree most teachers who have a very
great expertise in their field tend to be quite popular among students as the
older class would introduce the good teachers to the following one and it
keeps going on and on.
. What are the qualities of being a good teacher?

As I have previously mentioned, a good teacher to me is someone who is strict

in class but approachable outside of class. As a teacher, you are taking part in
shaping a person’s personality, so you need to have a good sense of
responsibility since you don’t want your students to turn out to be
troublemakers. Additionally, patience is a must. A teacher needs to be very
patient with his or her students because not all students are gifted and can
digest new knowledge in the blink of an eye so he or she must be
understanding and give them time to comprehend it. Personality aside, a good
teacher should also have a great expertise in his or her field in order to be able
to explain complex and abstract concepts to students at different levels in the
most suitable way.
. Is it easier to become popular nowadays?

Yes, I believe so. The rapid development of TVs and the internet makes it
extremely easy for people to be famous in modern days. Back then, we would
have to tell each other one by one about a person for his or her name to
gradually start ringing a bell among a wider audience. Nowadays, one tweet
or a Facebook post that goes viral can make a person famous overnight.
People can now become popular for all types of reasons, good and bad. Some
people are famous for their singing skills or simply doing good deeds. Some
people are infamous for making up stories about themselves. We, as conscious
internet users, should not fall for these noise marketings.
. Why do people want to be popular?

Well according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, self-actualisation is the

ultimate desire that humans have. We all want to be recognised for our work,
we want to be accepted by the public, we want to be known and heard.
Therefore, it makes sense that people have a fancy for being popular. Once a
person becomes famous, it gives them the feeling that they have followers
who would listen to them and follow their steps wherever they go which
makes them feel that they are important and their words carry weight. Being
famous also opens up opportunities for a person to get sponsored by brands to
promote their products and so, the celebrity can make money from that.
Từ vựng:
 infamous = notorious: nổi tiếng vì một lí do tiêu cực
 disobedient = unruly: không đi theo khuôn khổ
 devotion = dedication: sự tận tụy
 To take advantage of: lợi dụng
 approachable: dễ gần, dễ tiếp xúc
 Stringency: sự nghiêm khắc
 gifted: có năng khiếu
 In the blink of an eye (idiom): thoắt cái, trong chốc lát
 To comprehend: hiểu
 To ring a bell (idiom) = to sound familiar: nghe quen
 To go viral (idiom): trở nên nổi tiếng tiếng một cách nhanh chóng
 To do good deeds (idiom): làm việc tốt
 Noise marketing: truyền thông bẩn
 To have a fancy for = to want: muốn làm gì
 To carry weight: có trọng lượng, quan trọng

Part 2: Describe someone you know who has recently moved to a new place

You should say:

Who he/she is

What the new place is like

Why he/she moved to a new place

And explain whether his/her move had a positive impact on you

Answer: Just last week, I helped my colleague move to a new place in London. She
comes from the US but she is moving to the UK due to work reallocation for 2 years
and beyond, potentially.

In my colleague’s first 2 months in London, our company accommodated her by

letting her stay in the corporate apartment. In the meantime, she was also looking for
another one to rent on her own. The company flat is located in the south end of central
London. The neighbourhood is quite nice as it is not too noisy. There are some other
colleagues of ours living there, too.
However, the company has a limited budget so sooner or later, she would have to
find another flat in town that she could afford. Without much difficulty, she found one
pretty close to the company apartment and so, not far from our office, either. The flat
is a studio and is in a relatively good location. It might not be super close to the city
centre but it’s still within a 2km radius to local grocery stores and restaurants. And
most importantly, the rent is such a bargain! The apartment is totally unfurnished so
my roommate had to purchase all new furniture from IKEA and set them all up on her
own. At least IKEA would deliver all the compartments to her new address so it’s one
less job.

Moving from the US, my colleague brought 2 big suitcases and 2 small backpacks
with her, so it took us only 1 tube ride to bring all the luggage to the new place,
although carrying them up the stairs was a bit exhausting. It took my colleague
another week to fully settle down at the new place and have everything she needed
organised. But in the end, it was all good.

Until now, I still find it incredible that my colleague really made up her mind to move
to England at this stage of her career. But it was also nice to see that our company was
very supportive and would offer its employees any help they need.

Từ vựng:
 Work reallocation: phân công công việc, luân chuyển công tác
 To accommodate: giúp đỡ ai đó về khoản nhà cửa, hoàn thành tâm nguyện của
ai
 Sooner or later (idiom): sớm hay muộn
 To be a bargain (idiom): (cảm thán cái gì) vô cùng rẻ
 exhausting: gây mệt mỏi, kiệt sức
 To settle down: bắt đầu ổn định cuộc sống

Part 3
. Why do some young people keep moving?

I think it is because life can get very dynamic when you are young. Maybe you
decide to pursue higher education in a different city so you have no other
choice but to move to a new place to complete your study. Similarly, when
you find a new job or your company assigns you to a new team, reallocation is
recommended to ensure the work quality. Additionally, nomadism is a
prevalent concept among millennials these days. Young people feel the need
to move to find their true identity, to challenge themselves, and to live their
life to the fullest.
. What’s the difference between living alone and living with roommates?
The discrepancy is as clear as day. When living alone, you have the entire
space to yourself. You can do whatever you want without having to worry
about whether your actions would bother your roommates. It sounds like a
very desirable lifestyle but living alone also means that you need to be very
independent and self-responsible. Some people might also become depressed
after living alone for a long time because they don’t have
enough interpersonal interactions. Living with roommates, on the other
hand, requires a sense of respecting the common area. You are sharing the
same space with other people in your house who most likely would cohabitate
with you under the same roof for months or even years, so you don’t want
to get on their nerves and you expect the same from them. If you are lucky to
find a roommate who gets along with you, you have made a friend who would
be willing to give a hand if you ever ask.
. Is it beneficial for young people to live by themselves?

Certainly. Living alone helps people start developing a sense of independence.

Young people usually decide to move out as soon as they go to university or
get their first job because that’s when people start going into the adult’s life
and they want to have their own space. Living alone might be challenging at
first when you haven’t gotten used to having nobody reminding you to do this
and that. But gradually and eventually, you will have established the good
habits required for living on your own, such as creating a monthly budget,
cleaning your room on a weekly basis, having a self-reminder to pay your
monthly bills, and so on. These habits would help you mature in life and later
on when you start a family.
. Besides cooking, are there any other skills that people need to learn if
they live on their own?

Like I have mentioned before, you should start creating a monthly budget
when you live alone. In fact, I think this is the most important skill to have
because when you no longer have your parents to send you money every time
you are strapped, you need to be very financially conscious so as not to run
out of budget before the end of the month, especially when living alone means
that there are several types of expenditure that you have to worry about. You
should also have a clear weekly timetable to remind yourself what needs to be
done each day, especially when it comes to cleaning routine. People tend to be
lazy to tidy their room on a regular basis. You might have had your parents do
the cleaning work when living with your family, but it won’t be the case when
you live independently. Cleanliness is next to godliness, so it’s better to keep
your space as neat as a pin to have a peace of mind.
. What kinds of people tend to live by themselves?

I believe that young people at the early stage of their career tend to live by
themselves. Most university students move out of their family as soon as they
go to college but they would usually live with some friends to share the rent
because they haven’t got a stable job to be financially independent yet. But
when they have a job with a relatively steady income, they tend to find a flat
or a house to live on their own since privacy becomes their new priority.
Although this might last for a few years only before they have a lover and
decide to move in to live with their significant other and eventually, start
raising a family.
. How can parents and teachers help young people live independently?

Parents and teachers can give some guidance to the children on living
independently from a very young age. It all starts from the most basic things,
such as asking the child to clean up their own mess after eating or playing and
tidying their room on the weekends. Where suitable, some parents can even let
their children go to school and come back home on their own so they are
aware of which bus to catch and to stay punctual. When the children grow up,
maybe around the high school age, parents and teachers may also start
showing them how to plan a spending budget. They may also let the teenager
figure out how to start making money on their own so they won’t have to
regularly ask their parents for allowance.

Part 2: Describe a movie you watched recently that you felt disappointed about

You should say:

When it was
Why you didn’t like it

Why you decided to watch it

And explain why you felt disappointed about it

Answer: It’s been a while since I last went to a cinema to watch a movie since I am
not really a movie-goer. Roughly 4 months ago, I decided to go to the movie theatre
to watch John Wick 4 with my friend because I had 2 coupons that could get us free
movie tickets and since we both were into action movies, I thought it would be a
good idea to spend that coupon on John Wick.

Given the popularity that the John Wick series had established throughout the years
and the fact that the movie production crew had been marketing this sequel as the
final sequel of the series, we came into the cinema with a lot of hopes that
this blockbuster would be totally superb. We booked the best seats in the 3D IMAX
screening room, ready to spend a good time here. Unfortunately, the movie let me
down.

First of all, it was way too long. I think the movie was around 3 hours long. I have
watched even longer movies such as Avatar 2: The Way of Water and Avengers: End
Game, but I think how the plot was developed throughout the 3 hours made the
difference. There were ups and downs, character development in between the action
scenes which kept my eyes on the screen in Avatar and Avengers. However, it was
just fighting and shooting, then shooting and fighting in John Wick 4 which
eventually became very boring after a while. Not even halfway through the movie I
already found myself falling asleep. In fact, I even woke up and fell asleep once again
later.

Secondly, I think the ending was not quite satisfying. I think the directors wanted to
give us a suspending open ending hinting that John Wick only faked his death which
raised a question of whether there would be a John Wick Chapter 5, which goes
against how the production team was promoting the movie originally. As a neutral
viewer, I honestly just want everything to be clarified.

I think the disappointment with the movie that I had was partly on me, too because I
had never been a huge fan of the prequels of the series, either. Perhaps, a pure action
movie is just not my cup of tea.

Part 3
. Do you believe movie reviews?

I generally trust movie reviews, of course depending on the sources, too. For
example, Rotten Tomatoes is usually a credible website for movie reviews. I
usually read long reviews which address where the movie did well and where
it did bad because these reviews seem to be more reliable as the reviewer did
spend time to analyse the entire movie. If you could find a reviewer who
seems to have a similar taste in movies as you do then most of the time, you
would feel the same when experiencing the movie yourself. However, I think
every review should be taken with a grain of salt since at the end of the day,
it’s all the reviewer’s personal thoughts. You need to watch the movie yourself
to have your own judgement.
. What are the different types of films in your country?

Vietnam is on its way to catch up with international movie industries, so there

has been a diversity of movie genres in my country. In the past, war movies
were the most common ones given our history. Then, horror movies start to
surface rapidly. Lately, with the outbreak of covid, healing, family genre
movies seem to become more and more prevalent as people want to receive
more positivity. And throughout the years, comedies have always had a good
standing among other genres.
. Are historical films popular in your country? Why?

They used to be quite popular in the late 2000s. I think it was partly because
we were celebrating quite a few national anniversaries during that time, and it
was a new breeze blown into the Vietnamese film industry which no directors
had attempted before. However, these movies were not quite well-received
after being released. The props, the costumes, the historical setup, many things
were largely off from the real historical context. Gradually, historical movies
have vanished from the big screens.
. Do you think films with famous actors or actresses are more likely to
become successful films?

Yes, I partly agree with that. Obviously famous actors and actresses who have
established their name in the industry for a long time would attract attention to
the project that they are in. Most likely, they also have a solid fan base that
would support them everywhere they go or whatever they do and so, would go
to the movie theatres to watch them. I believe that the box office revenue is
one of the biggest indicators of whether a movie is successful or not. Of
course, there are other important factors that will decide the success of a film,
such as the plot, the marketing, the post production, etc. For example, a movie
may star all the biggest names in Hollywood yet still fail to go viral because
the plot was totally unpersuasive. But the actors’ fame definitely play a big
role.
. Why are Japanese animated films so popular?

I think throughout history, Japan has been massively famous for their manga
industry. I believe that almost every single kid in the world must have read
Doraemon. And the animation industry is also built up from the manga
industry. Given the success of the Japanese manga, it is hard for Japanese
animated movies not to be a hit. I think the Japanese illustrations of their 2D
characters are very lively and pleasant to the eyes that kids really enjoy. And
the profound plot also can also buy the adult viewers. Studio Ghibli is the
perfect example for this. The produced really good animated movies with
beautiful characters, beautiful plot and beautiful soundtracks.
. Should the director pay a lot of money to famous actors?

I agree that famous actors have the right to request a great salary to star in a
movie. They worked hard to establish their name in the industry which would
bring benefits to the movie that they are in as I have explained previously.
There must be a gazillion scripts sent to these actors to review every month
and they can decide whether or not to join the production crew. So I think
paying them good money is like placing a bid in the auction to cast these
actors. It is a win-win situation for both sides so I don’t see any problem with
that. Although every movie must have its own budget. And the directors
should not go out of budget to invite a famous actor to the filming set since it
does not guarantee a big success for the movie anyway.

Part 2:

Describe a place you have been to where there were lots of people

You should say:

Where it is

Who you were with

What people were doing there

And explain why there were lots of people

Answer: Well, a crowded place that I went to recently was a beach in Phu Quoc,
which I believe is called Bai Sao. I had an absolute blast during my time on the
beach that day. Because it has been so long since I’ve got the chance to go somewhere
that has such a lively atmosphere, I was feeling so blessed that I had the chance to
spend my hours on this beautiful site with my family.

Everyone was doing their own thing on the beach. While some were playing
volleyball, others were taking pictures of the magnificent landscape. I suppose that
not everyone was keen on activities that require much energy and would rather have
their own peaceful space by reading some books, putting on headphones while having
a tan from the sunlight.
I think the reason why this beach is an irresistible magnet for visitors is because of
its natural beauty. When standing on the smooth white sand and feeling crystal-
clear blue waves on your feet, everyone will feel an instant relief from all the
stressful things that have been lingering on their minds. Plus, you can also enjoy
fresh-caught seafood at a surprisingly reasonable price.

My visit to Bai Sao beach with my family was hands down one of the most
mesmerizing experiences I’ve ever had. Being surrounded by laughter and getting to
see people having the time of their life with their families are definitely my favorite
memories besides creating memories with the people I love.

Từ vựng:
 had an absolute blast: có một thời gian vui vẻ
 lively atmosphere: không khí sống động
 magnificent: tuyệt diệu
 an irresistible magnet: rất thu hút
 crystal-clear: trong vắt
 feel an instant relief: cảm thấy một sự nhẹ nhõm ngay tức khắc
 lingering: bám theo dai dẳng
 hands down: chắc chắn, không có sự nghi ngờ nào

Part 3:
. Where do young people like to go?

Young individuals have a diverse preference of destinations. For the ones who
would prefer a lively atmosphere, they would gravitate towards upbeat
entertainment venues like music festivals, dancing clubs or theaters. On the
other hand, many young people would more often go to peaceful places with
minimum noises like cafes, or natural landscapes such as mountains or parks
where they can engage in activities that are more calming.
. Are people happy living in crowded apartments?

I think it depends on the personalities and purposes of these people. While

some individuals may find it challenging to live in an environment where they
have lack of privacy and more frequent exposure to noises, others may bite
the bullet in order to have a more affordable price for these apartments.
Overtime, most of these people will have no choices other than to adapt and be
content with their choices and they might even discover the positive feature of
being able to have constant social interaction.
. Which scenic spots will have queues of people?
Scenic spots renowned for their beauty, historical significance, or cultural
importance tend to be a magnet for tourists. For example, multiple historical
sites like famous pagodas or museums will often be caught with the sight of
never- ending queues waiting to be inside the premises, especially
during peak travel seasons or holidays.
. What are the advantages of living on a higher floor?

The most prominent upsides of higher-floor apartments are the less likelihood
of insect-infestation and also lower exposure to pollution. To specify, higher
floors are less prone to critters and pests because these insects are less likely
to be able to travel all the way up on high floors. Moreover, residents would
have to deal with less dust, dirt and smoke from car emissions and also
unpleasant smell from the garbage truck passing by. As a result, they would be
less susceptible to respiratory illnesses such as lung cancer.
. What are the disadvantages of living on a lower floor?

As I mentioned before, the closer your apartment’s level to the ground-floor,

the more exposed you are to different pollutants. For example, many people
who live on lower floors have inconsistent sleep quality as they often have
to put up with honking noises, which overtime can cause insomnia and
diminish the energy that one has throughout the day, leading to the downgrade
in both professional and personal life. Moreover, privacy can also
be compromised on lower floors, as there may be more visibility from street-
level and neighboring apartments.
. What do you think of the phenomenon of people queuing in restaurants
for more than an hour?

Long queues in restaurants for an extended period can be attributed to various

reasons. First of all, with the fast pace of information-spreading on social
platforms nowadays, restaurants’ popularity can surge significantly via
reviews from influencers. As an example, the Tiktoker Keith Lee, who is a
food reviewer, often helps restaurants to go from a nobody to having hundreds
of people standing in line for the well-reviewed food. Moreover, many
restaurants have successfully marketed themselves as having unique dining
experiences for customers that no other can replicate. Therefore, the curiosity
of many people encourages them to willingly wait outside the restaurants for
hours for the renowned dining experience.

Part 2:

Describe a car journey that you remember well

You should say:

Where you went

What you did

Who you had the car journey with

And explain how you felt about the journey

Answer: A car journey that I remember vividly was the one that I had with my family
last year. To be honest with you, not every moment of this spontaneous road trip was
full of glory, but I enjoyed every single moment of it.

It was a road trip to the stunning coastal city of Nha Trang in Vietnam. The journey
started off roughly when a tire of my dad’s car bumped into a spike and got flatten
out after just an hour when we set off. Luckily, my dad got a back-up tire in his trunk
so it took us just 20 minutes, with the help of some friendly strangers, to continue our
trip to Nha Trang.
Once we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome of
the mesmerizing landscapes, with a breathtaking view of the enormous mountains
and lush greenery. After riding through road after road, our family decided to stop by
a famous beach in Nha Trang to have a small picnic. We spent the day lying on the
warm sand, telling each other jokes while soaking up the sun and were beside
ourselves with joy.

Overall, the journey was delightful. Even though at times little arguments would spark
when we debate on which route would be the right one to follow, plus the car tire
incident, I think the wonderful time we got to experience on the beach to immerse
ourselves in the lively atmosphere made up for all the challenges that we went
through.

Từ vựng:
 vividly: một cách rõ ràng
 spontaneous: ngẫu hứng
 bumped into: va phải cái gì đó
 set off: lên đường
 a warm welcome: sự đón tiếp nồng hậu
 mesmerizing: mê hoặc
 soaking up the sun: ngâm mình trong nắng, tắm nắng
 beside oneself with joy: cảm thấy ngập tràn hạnh phúc
 immerse oneself in: đắm mình trong

Part 3:
. What benefits does public transport bring to the world?

Utilizing public vehicles not only benefits the well-being of humans, but also
of the environment. First of all, it improves road congestion by transporting
multiple people on a single vehicle, reducing the number of active private
transportation on the road. As a result, the decrease in this prevalent kind of
vehicle makes way for non-jammed up roads. Moreover, using public
transportation rather than personal ones also reduces the gas emissions being
released, therefore supporting the upgrade of the health statement of
individuals.
. Is it too late for people to get their driver’s license at the age of 18?

To my way of thinking, it is never considered too late to register for a driver’s

license. Even though in Western countries most people would have already got
one before 18, I think it boils down to the driving skills of people and how
fast their reflex is when it comes to driving in the traffic and when a
possible incident occurs.
. What qualities does a driver need to have?
In order to be a safe driver, one needs to be responsible and reliable. If a driver
lacks these qualities, not only are they risking their own safety, but also the
community’s. While driving, several situations may arise that
will warrant you to respond accordingly. For instance, if it’s pouring rain,
you may want to slow down and keep a fair distance to the car in front of you.
Road safety must be your top priority to prevent accidents and any
other mishaps. No doubt, being responsible and reliable are characteristics of
a safe driver that will help keep you and others around you safe.
. Do you think the government should make it a rule for people to use
public transport?

Well, I’m on the fence about this. While public transportation offers multiple
advantages including diminishing both gas emission and accident rate, I think
the government should still respect the humanitarian rights of civilians by
allowing them to have their own choices whether or not to possess personal
vehicles. With that being said, governments can encourage people to use
public transportation by imposing higher tax rates on car purchases and also
introduce free access to the metro systems.
. Which jobs require people to be good at driving?

Definitely the ones whose profession are drivers, including taxi, bus and truck
drivers. The one thing that these people have in common is that they need to
be extremely careful when driving around. as they are responsible for the
safety of the passengers, as well as the

products that companies conduct to transport to assigned destinations in a

perfect state.
. Do you see driverless cars as the future of cars?

In the current era, with the level of scientific advancement that has been
achieved, technology has become a necessitous part of our existence and
has eased many issues in our lives. This has led many people to think that all
vehicles will be automated and will no longer require drivers in the imminent
decades. But from my perspective, automated vehicles would only be accessed
by a marginal portion of people, particularly the upper class. In the current
market, driverless cars like Tesla are already up for retail, but because of their
non-economical price, mostly their users are the privileged ones in society.

Describe an occasion when you lost your way

You should say:

where you were

what happened

how you felt

and explain how you found your way.

Answer: I had a clear recollection of this time that I got lost when I was on a solo
trip. Because I was determined to find a place that offers absolute peacefulness to
further support my time of re-energizing, I was staying at a bungalow inside the forest
for 7 days.

During my alone time there, I contemplated hiking up the hill so that I can enjoy the
beautiful sunrise on my second day. Everything seemed to go according to plan as I
was able to wake up early that morning and geared up with water bottles and a
sandwich, along with my books so that once I got to the top, I could sit down and
sightsee the whole city from the highest view.
After strolling for 2 hours straight, I stumbled upon a wide area of enormous ancient
trees. They looked so majestic that I totally forgot that I had to stick to the trail that I
drew earlier on the map, and instead I derailed quite some yards to get to the area. I
was so engrossed in watching the little wild flowers that I totally didn’t notice my
phone battery was running out. Once I realized the dangerous situation I was in, I
instantly calmed myself down to not exacerbate anything further and traced back to
the mere footprints that I left on the ground.

Finally, I sighted a family who was having a picnic nearby after aimless
wandering until I lost track of time. I was so relieved to see some people who could
help me find my way back to the ground. After that incident, I made a promise to
myself that if I ever go to a place with no road track like a forest again, I will have to
put a paper map in my pocket to prepare for the worst scenario.

Từ vựng:
 recollection: trong ký ức
 contemplated: dự tính
 geared up: sẵn sàng cho cái gì đó
 stumbled upon: tình cờ gặp
 majestic: diệu kỳ
 engrossed in: hăng say
 derailed: đi chệch khỏi
 exacerbate: làm xấu đi
 aimless wandering: đi một cách vô định
 worst scenario: viễn cảnh xấu nhất

Part 3:
. How can people find their way when they are lost?

If you are experiencing disorientation, the best move that you can do is to ask
strangers for support, as the locals from those areas have the locations in the
palm of their hands, so you can easily reach out for help and ask for
directions. In a scenario where there is no one around, you can utilize physical
or better, digital maps in order to figure out your way.
. Do you think it is important to do some preparation before you travel to
new places?

Being well-prepared is definitely key when traveling to a new place. Making

prior reservations for accommodations as well as buying online tickets for
tourist attractions will help you save time and money. You'll be able to
maximize your holiday time while minimizing your commute time because
you’ve already had a clear plan where to go first.
. Do you think it is important to be able to read a map?
Absolutely. Map-reading skill is an essential skill for kids and adults. Not only
do you need to know how to find out where you are, but you need to be able
to navigate safely to your destination. Therefore, the education system should
provide classes for people at a young age to ensure their safety and encourage
them to be independent of technology devices, in cases when GPS information
is incomplete.
. Is a paper map still necessary?

Without a doubt. Mainly because paper maps do not require a battery or

internet connection in order to operate, as opposed to e-maps, so they can be
used in remote areas where technology may not be reliable. For example,
hikers and outdoor enthusiasts may prefer paper maps because they can see
the terrain, topography, and natural features of the area they are exploring.
They can also use a paper map to mark their progress and plan
their route more easily.
. Why do some people get lost more easily than others?

It boils down to the way a person handles abstract thought and maps. Some
people tend to navigate by generating two-dimensional maps in their head,
while others tend to navigate by routes and landmarks.
. How do people react when they get lost?

I think the reaction in this scenario can vary widely. Many people would not
be able to contain themselves and become extremely anxious and panic,
making them unable to think straight. For others, they would assess the
situation and overcome the unsettling experience by looking for familiar
landmarks nearby, or ask the locals for directions.

Từ vựng:
 disorientation: sự mất phương hướng
 in the palm of one’s hand: trong lòng bàn tay
 scenario: viễn cảnh

Part 2:

Describe an adventure you would like to take in the future.

You should say:

What the adventure is

Where you would go

Who you would be with

And explain why you would like to take the adventure.

Answer: Because I have been saving up for the expenditure for an overseas trip, I
would gladly choose Dubai as the place to explore.

After hours of serious research on the Internet, other than the luxurious hotels that the
elites can stay in, Dubai also offers extreme experiences for those who are
adventurous like me. To start off, I have signed up to immerse myself in the
greatness of the desert by riding on the back of camels. From there, the locals would
take me to a campus in which multiple all-terrain vehicles gather around. I would
then be instructed to hold on tight to the seats while the experienced drivers drive
through the desert at a fast pace, which is guaranteed to be the bumpiest and dizziest
experience that anyone can possibly get.

Moreover, tourists who are eager to experience an adrenaline rush can stand at the
highest floor of Burj Khalifa-the highest tower known to exist to enjoy a million-
dollar view of the city Dubai. Standing at the foot of the world's tallest peak, I would
totally be overcome with a sense of achievement and reverence.
I wouldn’t describe myself as a person who would take risks all the time, so this trip
for me would definitely be an eye-opening experience as I would have to step out of
my comfort zone to overcome my fear of heights. I believe the fact that I seeked
something out of the ordinary for once has already been a milestone after such a long
time living inside the norm.

Từ vựng:
 expenditure: chi tiêu
 immerse in: đắm mình vào
 all-terrain vehicle: xe địa hình
 hold on tight to: bám chắc vào
 eager to: háo hức để
 an adrenaline rush: cú sốc adrenaline
 reverence: sự tôn kính
 eye-opening experience: một trải nghiệm mở mang
 step out of my comfort zone: bước ra khỏi vùng an toàn
 milestone: cột mốc
 the norm: quy chuẩn, điều bình thường

Part 3:
. Who likes to read adventure books?

I think adventure books are appropriate for readers of all ages. Many people
search for adventure tales in order to immerse themselves in the detailed
and sensational experience that they can imagine themselves in.
. Do people prefer adventure novels or adventure movies?

I think most people would gravitate towards watching an adventurous film

rather than reading a novel of the same kind. Even though some people would
still be patient enough to read through all the pages in a couple days, others
wouldn’t be entertained as much when there is no visual support. Adventure
films appear to be more popular as the audience wouldn’t have to apply their
imagination as much, but still get to experience the amazing acting and visual
effects that these movies offer.
. Why do some people like to read adventure books rather than take an
adventure?

I suppose not everyone is financially prepared to embark on a trip.

Furthermore, when traveling, there is a risk of being involved in
unwanted hazards, such as a car or plane crash. Therefore, many people
would satisfy their craving for an adventurous experience by reading novels.
. Who doesn’t like to take adventures?
Most people of old age wouldn’t be comfortable with adventures because of
the risks involved. Mainly they can’t go on trips because of their physical
state. Most elderly suffer from asthma or bone-weakened diseases, so they
would rather stay in their comfort zone and not engage in activities that
require long-road traveling and effort-requiring activities.
. What kind of personality should people have to experience a lot of
adventure?

People who have flexible adaptability and high-level resilience suit best when
it comes to adventures. You will not have a rewarding adventure if you are not
receptive to such concepts. If you watch food travel shows on TV, you'll
notice that most food explorers eat worms, snails, and even snakes as part of
the excitement. As a result, being open-minded is critical to having a
rewarding journey. Also, you will have to willingly be under extreme weather.
. Will experiencing adventures broaden people’s horizons?

Going on adventures definitely will give you exposure to different cultures of

other countries and religions. Especially when you go to a different nation,
you’ll have to adapt and learn about their customs. For example, many
foreigners who come to India are taken aback by the tradition of eating with
one’s hands. Therefore, adventures can help people to expand their
perspectives of the world and encourage the acceptance of cultural diversity.

Từ vựng:
 adventure tales: truyện phiêu lưu
 immerse in: đắm mình trong
 sensational: ly kỳ
 visual: về mặt hình ảnh
 visual effects: hiệu ứng kỹ xảo
 embark on: bắt đầu gì đó
 hazards: tai nạn
 craving for: thèm, mong muốn thứ gì đó
 stay in comfort zone: ở trong vùng an toàn
 resilience: sức bền bỉ
 adapt: thích nghi
 cultural diversity: đa dạng văn hóa

Describe an ideal house

You should say:

when and where you saw it

what it looked like

what special features it had

and explain why you liked it.

Answer: After living my whole life in a 5-story terraced house, it has come to my
attention that there are many things about my house that I’m not pleasant with. For
example, I would always be out of breath after taking the stairs to the third floor, just
to get to the kitchen and have some snacks after school. It would be even more effort-
requiring for me to climb to the highest floor every night just to go to sleep in my
bedroom because the stair is so steep.

For that reason, if I were to choose a different location for my residence, I

would strive towards a condominium. This is mostly because of my needs for
nearby amenities like swimming pool and tennis courts that I can have quick access
to, just by a couple footsteps so every morning, I can energize myself without having
to travel kilometers away from my house.

It wouldn’t be an ideal house for me if my bedroom wasn’t built with two giant
windows to capture the natural glare of the sun. Not only would I decorate my house
with different plants all around, but I would also light up scented candles in the corner
of each room so that my house would be surrounded in the relaxing aroma, helping
me immerse in the peaceful ambience after the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

For the furniture, I’ve always been intrigued by the antique style, with monotone
furniture, from the couches to the appliances, particularly the color ivory, combined
with the sleek look of burgundy wooden floors. I am particularly a fan of antique
pieces of furniture myself so they would be scattered around the house to ensure the
aesthetic that I pursue is highlighted.

I hope that one day when I have enough financial ability, I will be able to build my
own home, the one I consider my comfort place to create remarkable moments of life,
shared among members of my own family.
Từ vựng:
 out of breath: hết hơi
 steep: dốc
 residence: nơi cư trú
 strive towards: nỗ lực để đạt được cái gì đó
 condominium: căn hộ chung cư
 amenities: tiện ích
 aroma: mùi thơm
 hustle and bustle of sth: sự nhộn nhịp, ồn ào của cái gì đó
 intrigued by: bị hấp dẫn bơi
 sleek: gọn, bóng
 scattered around: rải rác

Part 3:
. What are the most common architectural styles in Chinese cities?

I suppose structures in Chinese cities feature a mix of traditional and modern

styles. In China, multiple preserved historical sites such as pagodas, temples
and courtyard houses are open to the public for people to observe
the astonishing sophisticated textiles that the traditional architecture offers.
However, the modern society gravitates towards the contemporary style to be
applied to facilities like skyscrapers, private residents and apartments due to
modernization over the years.
. What’s the difference between an apartment and a house?

The most significant feature that differentiates a house and an apartment is the
privacy of residents. As houses are standalone buildings, people would have
more space and freedom to either organize a party with guests coming in and
out, or have a blast turning the music on as much as they like. On the
contrary, people who reside in apartments would have to be cautious when it
comes to these activities, as the floors are connected and loud noises can easily
disturb other apartments.
. What’s the difference between living in the countryside and living in the
city?

People are the same everywhere, but life in the countryside is slower, and so
people have more time for each other as most people have fewer needs and so
the expenses for daily life are quite affordable. On the other hand, city
dwellers have to be familiar with a hectic lifestyle. They have much more
pressure to run after material wealth in order to sustain a quality lifestyle with
expensive costs for rents and appliances in order to keep up with the rapid
modernization. Therefore, many urban residents can’t get out of the rat
race and lack time for their families, or even self-care time.
. What are the advantages of the facilities of the apartment and the
facilities of the house?

When it comes to facilities, apartments offer much more accessible amenities.

Most apartment complexes come with a range of convenient facilities and
services. Some of the most common amenities include gyms, pools, laundry
facilities, and community centers. For instance, having a gym on-site can be a
great way to stay in shape without having to leave your apartment complex as
you’ll be able to work out whenever you want, without having to worry about
the extra costs and hassle of joining a gym off-site. With that being said, an
exclusive feature that house owners have is that they can customize their own
facilities, for example having a private pool with furniture of their own taste
without having to worry about other people’s approval.
. What difficulties do people have living in the city?

There are numerous challenges that urban residents have to combat. First of
all, cities often have a higher cost of living, including housing expenses,
transportation costs, and overall expenses for goods and services, making it
challenging for some individuals and families to afford a comfortable lifestyle.
Especially with the limited space and high demand, this results in higher costs
for purchasing or renting a home. An ample piece of evidence is Ho Chi Minh
City, where a surge in population occurred, resulting in a high demand for
housing. As a consequence, rental prices and property values have
significantly increased over the years.

Moreover, people in urban areas have to put up with extremely polluted air
quality from vehicles’ emissions as well as difficulties in
finding tranquility due to noise pollution from honking sounds
and bustling activities.
. What can be done to reduce the stress of city life?

Both the governments and the civilians themselves can take measures in order
to subsidize the mental well-being of urban residents. The first solution is for
people to reach out to the psychological counseling service, to which the
professionals can help their customers find the most optimal ways to perceive
stress as an obstacle that they can overcome. Moreover, the governments can
support their people by offering discounts for this kind of counseling so that
people from all strata of society in the cities can have equitable access.

Part 2: Describe an occasion when you got incorrect information

You should say:

When you got it

How you got it

How you found it was incorrect

And how you felt about it

Answer: I would like to share an occasion when I got inaccurate information. Last
July, I took a trip to Hue with my family. Located in central Vietnam, this city has
always been my dream destination. Hence, I meticulously planned the trip with a
list of restaurants that I wanted to visit.

Prior to my departure, a close friend of mine happened to be in Hue as well, so I

asked for her recommendation on a restaurant that served authentic Hue cuisine. She
provided me with an address, assuring me that this particular restaurant
was renowned among both tourists and locals. Having always found her trustworthy,
I didn't bother cross-checking the information and immediately added it to
my itinerary.
It wasn't until I arrived at the address she had given me that I realized it was incorrect.
Disappointed and disheartened, I found myself standing in front of a regular house
with a closed door, rather than the expected restaurant. As I called my friend and
explained the situation, she realized she had typed the wrong street number of the
address and immediately gave me the correct one.

This incident left me feeling frustrated, considering I had eagerly anticipated this trip
and looked forward to dining at the recommended restaurant. Moreover, it served as a
valuable lesson for me, emphasizing the importance of double-
checking and verifying information. Had I taken the simple step of verifying the
details beforehand, I would have recognized the error and arrived at the correct
restaurant without delay.

 meticulously (adv): tỉ mỉ, chi tiết
 prior to: trước (ngày gì/dịp gì)
 recommendation (n): gợi ý
 cuisine (n): ẩm thực
 renowned (adj): nổi tiếng
 cross-check (v): kiểm tra chéo
 itinerary (n): lịch trình
 anticipate (v): mong chờ
 double-check (v): kiểm tra lại lần 2

Part 3:
. Why do some people not trust information on the Internet?

Some people do not trust information on the internet due to various reasons.
Firstly, there is a lack of credibility of sources, as anyone can publish content
online without thorough fact-checking or expertise. This may lead to
misinformation, rumors, and blatant lies being widely spread. Additionally,
the internet fosters anonymity, making it difficult to determine the reliability
of the author or their agenda. Information overload and conflicting opinions
also create confusion, making it challenging to discern accurate information.
. What jobs provide information to others?

There are numerous jobs that provide information to others. Some examples
include journalists, who gather, investigate, and report news and information
to the public through various media channels. Another occupation is market
researchers who collect and analyze data to provide insights and information
about consumer preferences and market trends to businesses and clients. In
addition, teachers and educators impart knowledge and information to students
in various subjects and fields. Overall, these jobs are all centered around the
important task of providing information to others.
. What’s the difference between email and phone in terms of providing
information?

From my point of view, emails and phones are two distinct forms of
communication that possess both strengths and limitations. Firstly, in terms of
speed, phone calls generally surpass emails when it comes to immediate
response and exchanging information in real time. However, when it comes to
documentation, emails offer a written record of the information exchanged.
This allows the receiver to conveniently refer back to the email for clarity,
thus minimizing potential misunderstandings.
. Which do you think is the better way to provide information, by phone or
by mail?

From my perspective, the choice of communication method depends largely

on the nature of the information being conveyed. For instance, when dealing
with important but non-urgent information, sending it through mail would be
the more suitable approach. This method offers a higher level
of formality and ensures that the information is likely to be securely
delivered. In contrast, for emergency situations, direct communication through
phone calls should be employed. This enables immediate transmission of
critical information and allows for real-time response and assistance.
. How do you people determine the accuracy of information?

There are several effective methods to assess the accuracy of information.

Firstly, individuals can seek guidance from educators or experts who
possess extensive training and expertise in the relevant field. Their
knowledge and experience make them better equipped to evaluate accuracy.
Additionally, accessing reputable online sources is another reliable approach.
One platform I would highly recommend is Google Scholar, which provides
access to reliable research articles and papers penned by scholars worldwide.
. How do people make sure they’re getting the right information?

There are various ways for individuals to verify whether they are receiving
accurate information. Firstly, they can take the credibility and expertise of the
original poster into consideration. If the person who posted the information is
an expert in the field, it is likely that the information is reliable; however, if
the source lacks credentials and expertise, the information's credibility should
be questioned. Another effective method to ensure accuracy is double-
checking the information. Apart from solely relying on internet sources,
individuals can consult an expert in the respective field or seek verification
from a trusted colleague.
Từ vựng:
 credibility (n): đáng tin

Part 2: Describe an occasion when you spent (quite some) time with a young
child

You should say:

Who this child was

When you spent time with this child

What you did together

Why you spent time with this child

And explain how you felt about it

Answer: Recently, I had the opportunity to spend time with my two-year-old cousin.
Last week, my uncle had an impromptu meeting at work, so he dropped off his son at
my house for the day. Since it was unexpected, I hadn't planned any activities in
advance. I wish I had prepared something fun for us to do together, but nonetheless,
we ended up having an unforgettable time.

To start, we decided to watch music videos together. One particular song called "Baby
Shark", which is a catchy song with repetitive lyrics, caught his attention, and like
many kids, he became obsessed with it. We watched the video repeatedly, laughing
and dancing along happily. Afterwards, we moved on to drawing. Although he was
still learning about colors, it was clear that he had a passion for drawing as he let his
imagination run wild. We spent a good two hours trying to draw different animals
and objects before it was time for lunch. After a satisfying meal, we took a nap
to recharge for the afternoon. Later on, as my uncle finished work and came to pick
up his son, I felt quite upset to say goodbye to my cousin so soon.

Overall, the experience was both peaceful and exciting for me. Witnessing my
cousin's curiosity and eagerness to explore made me feel rejuvenated and reminded
me of the world’s bright side which I sometimes ignore. It was a delightful reminder
that passion and curiosity are the keys to finding excitement in life.

Từ vựng:
 impromptu: bất ngờ
 in advance: trước
 obsessed (adj): yêu thích quá mức
 let one's imagination run wild: để trí tưởng tượng bay xa
 recharge (v): nạp lại năng lượng
 rejuvenated (adj): tràn đầy sức sống

Part 3
. Do you think children should have a lot of toys?

Some people may argue that owning too many toys is not beneficial for
children at all, however, I am convinced that children can have numerous toys,
as long as the toys are safe and age-appropriate. Nowadays, a wide array of
toys can boost children’s creativity and intelligence, thereby contributing
positively to their education. However, it is crucial for parents to maintain a
balance and not give in to every desire of their children, as this may foster a
sense of entitlement and ultimately lead to spoiling them..
. Where do children usually play?
Children have a wide range of options when it comes to engaging in activities,
whether indoors or outdoors. Outside their homes, children can explore
various locations such as schools, parks, zoos, and other recreational areas.
Many building complexes also provide children's playgrounds, which are
accessible free of charge. Additionally, certain shopping malls
offer designated areas for children's entertainment, including playgrounds or
specialized activity zones that may require a nominal fee. An example of this
is the recently launched Lotte Mall Tay Ho, which boasts an exceptional
feature - an aquarium that serves as an ideal place for children to enjoy
themselves.
. Do you think there are too many rules for children to follow, whether at
school or home?

Some may argue that there are too many rules; however, I firmly believe that
they are necessary for children’s development. At school, if there were no
rules, there would be no discipline and young students might act as they
please, which might endanger themselves and their peers. Additionally, rules
at home are also important as it helps children adopt proper manners,
teaches them important values, and fosters their sense of responsibility. In
short, rules are created to ensure children’s safety and development.
. Do you think children should follow all the rules?

In most cases, I believe children should obey the guidance from adults. Young
people are normally gullible and prone to manipulation, hence, following the
rules set by parents or teachers who are more experienced and well aware of
the risks helps children avoid the potential harm. However, there are cases
where children can slightly bend the rule, such as playing in the rain. While
some parents may not allow them to play in the rain, in my opinion, with the
parents’ proper supervision, playing in the rain can actually be an enjoyable
experience for children.
. Do you think it’s necessary for parents to make decisions for their
children?

Parents should be children’s companions, not the controller so I am of the

opinion that parents may assist their children in making decisions but not
make decisions for them. If children are allowed to make their own decisions
from a young age, they will learn to evaluate choices and understand
the opportunity cost. However, since children are inexperienced, they may
not possess adequate knowledge to make decisions, hence, parents should
also intervene and provide some guidance if necessary.
. Do you think it is good for parents to help their children choose friends?

From my point of view, parents guiding their children's social interactions is

beneficial. Children, being innocent and vulnerable, can fall prey to
manipulation or exploitation by their peers; therefore, parents’ advice and
support can be invaluable in helping children navigate healthy friendships.
However, this does not mean that parents should decide who their children
should befriend. It is equally important for children to explore and form their
own friendships, as this enables them to develop social skills, independence,
and learn from their own experiences.

Part 2: Describe a famous person you are interested in

You should say:

Who he/she is

How you knew about him/her

What he/she was like before he/she became famous

And explain why you are interested in him/her

Answer: Recently, I have developed a profound interest in learning more about
Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States of America. Although I
was rather young during her time in office, I stumbled upon one of her speeches,
which left a lasting impression on me and inspired me with its powerful message.
Moreover, I have recently embarked on reading her memoir, "Becoming," which
vividly portrays her life journey from her childhood to the present.

Before her name was known worldwide, Michelle Obama had an ordinary upbringing.
She studied at Princeton university and then proceeded to study law at Harvard
university where she met her husband Barack Obama. During her early career, she
had worked at a law firm and at non-profit organizations. After that, her husband ran
for presidency and she wholeheartedly dedicated herself to supporting him
throughout his campaign and ultimately became renowned as the First Lady of the
United States.

Nonetheless, it is not Michelle Obama's title that captivates me; it is

her extraordinary personality, inspiring stories, and her ability to touch people's
hearts with her genuine care and compassion. I am profoundly moved by her
relentless efforts and her unwavering desire to create a better world, particularly
for marginalized groups such as young women or black people who have
endured discrimination.

In short, I always think of Michelle Obama as my role model. I am inspired to make a

positive impact on others’ lives thanks to her.

 run for presidency: tranh cử tổng thống
 renowned (adj); nổi tiếng
 captivate (v): thu hút

 compassion (n): lòng nhân ái
 unwavering desire: sự khát khao kiên định
 marginalized group: nhóm bị xem nhẹ
 discrimination (n): sự phân biệt
 role model: hình mẫu lý tưởng

Part 3
. Do you think media is putting too much attention on famous people?
My answer is definitely “Yes.” The media undeniably devotes
significant coverage to celebrities due to their immense influence and the
public's insatiable interest. In today's society, young individuals are often
captivated by every aspect of famous personalities' lives, ranging from their
performances and fashion choices to their personal relationships and fortune.
Therefore, media outlets extensively report on celebrities and
meticulously delve into every small detail in order to attract higher viewership
or readership, ultimately driving up profits for the news publishers.
. Do you think famous people are necessarily good in their fields?

I am convinced that celebrities are required to excel in their respective fields.

As popular individuals, they often serve as role models for others, making it
crucial for them to set a high standard of performance and achievement..
Furthermore, fame comes with its perks, such as luxurious travel
accommodations, complimentary products, and even a great fortune. To
deserve these privileges, notable celebrities must consistently strive for
excellence.
. What are the differences between famous people today and those in the
past?

In my opinion, the differences between celebrities in this modern world and in

the past are quite notable. To be more specific, in the past, famous people used
to be politicians, sports stars or singers and actors who were outstanding in
their respective fields. The number of celebrities was relatively meager
compared to the present. Nowadays, thanks to technological advancements
which promote various media channels, it is easier for people to gain
popularity, resulting in a notable increase in the number of celebrities. While
some individuals become famous due to their phenomenal talent and
achievements, it is also evident that many gain fame through scandals or
controversial actions.
. What kinds of famous people are there in your country?

In Vietnam, celebrities often come from entertainment, politics, or the

business industry. To be specific, they are musicians, actors, politicians or top
business executives of lucrative businesses. In general, these individuals
showcase remarkable competence in their respective fields, acting as inspiring
role models for others. However, in some cases, some people are infamous for
their scandals or controversy, resulting in a negative image.
. Why are some kids popular at school?

Some young students can be popular at school because of their personalities or

their outstanding aptitude. To be more specific, students who are easy-going
and able to make friends easily are more likely to become famous among their
peers. Furthermore, students with exceptional academic or sporting
prowess are also recognized widely and highly respected at schools as they
often receive awards from the principal or praises from teachers.
. Why do some people become famous but not successful?

Nowadays, it is increasingly common to witness individuals who receive

an overwhelming amount of attention but are unable to achieve long-term
success. First, some people unexpectedly become famous overnight due to a
viral moment or a singular event, so they have no preparation or knowledge to
sustain public interest and use it to propel themselves towards lasting success.
Additionally, there are some attention-seekers who deliberately create
controversy or scandals to garner attention from the media. As a result, with
a negative public image, they are less likely to attain genuine and meaningful
success in the long run.

Part 2: Describe a book that you have read many times

You should say:

What the book is about

How often you have read this book

Why you read it

And explain what effect the book has had on you

Answer: As an avid reader, I have read quite many books. However, "Far from the
Tree" by Robin Benway is the book I reread most frequently. This captivating novel
follows three main characters—Grace, Maya, and Joaquin—who were adopted and
unaware of their siblings. Through each character's perspective, I witness their
struggles and conflicts in search of their biological mother and a sense of belonging.
This powerful journey was filled with both joy and sadness.

I was immediately drawn to this book after coming across its introduction on
Goodreads, a platform that caters to book enthusiasts. From the very start, my
decision to read it proved to be a rewarding one. Every moment I spent reading this
book allowed me to fully immerse myself in the lives of the characters. Through their
emotions and thoughts, I resonated deeply with their journey towards finding and
building their true family.

I have experienced a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this book and I have
shed tears of both sadness and happiness. The book teaches me an invaluable lesson
about the meaning of family. Its narrative beautifully portrays the concept that
families extend beyond mere blood relations. Instead, true families are built on a
foundation of love, support, and affection. Families come in various shapes, colors,
and dynamics. Each small family and the one big family in this book is an epitome of
what a true home and a safe place is, even without a genetic connection. In short, I
always place this book on the top of my recommendation list for book lovers.

Từ vựng:
 avid reader: người thích đọc
 a sense of belonging: một cảm giác thuộc về
 to cater to book enthusiasts: dành riêng cho những người đam mê sách
 immerse myself in: chìm đắm vào
 resonate (v): đồng cảm
 a rollercoaster of emotions: cuộc hành trình tràn đầy cảm xúc
 epitome (n): ví dụ hoàn hảo

Part 3
. What kinds of books do children like to read? Why?
I believe children are naturally drawn to fairy tales and comics due to
the incorporation of magical elements and colorful images. These
aspects captivate their attention and allow their imagination to thrive. In fact,
many children have a habit of listening to a fairy tale narrated by their
parents or reading a comic story before their bedtime. This can significantly
enhance their creativity and make their childhood experiences more
memorable.
. What can kids learn from books?

Books offer numerous advantages for children. First of all, reading books
helps children improve their linguistic ability as they can acquire new words,
phrases, and grasp language structure and grammar. Moreover, children can
broaden their knowledge and gain exposure to various cultures, historical
events, etc. by reading books. Last but not least, children can cultivate their
creativity and imagination through reading books. As they turn the pages,
they are likely to visualize characters, settings, and events depicted in the
books.
. Do people prefer to read e-books or printed books in your country?

In Vietnam, the preference for the reading method varies among different age
brackets. Specifically, middle-aged and senior citizens show a greater
fondness for traditional books, finding them easier to read and being more
accustomed to this format. Conversely, young adolescents tend to gravitate
towards e-books due to their convenience. Numerous e-books are accessible
and portable with just a small digital device.
. Do you think people need to develop the habit of reading? Why?

I am of the opinion that adopting the habit of reading is crucial for all
individuals. First of all, reading exposes people to a vast amount of knowledge
and information such as technological advancements, political events, current
economic situations, etc., which helps them make wiser decisions in various
aspects of life. Additionally, people can cultivate a critical mindset through
reading as they learn to interpret, analyze, and evaluate the information they
encounter. The critical thinking skill enables people to form independent
opinions and gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
. Do you think reading books can make people happier?

I believe that this largely depends on the genres of books one chooses to read.
To clarify, if you read a memoir about real history, such as World War II, it's
difficult to find happiness in the face of such a devastating event in human
history. Thousands of lives were lost and chaos broke out in most parts of the
world. It seems nearly impossible to derive joy from reading about those
events. However, there are also books that can undeniably bring happiness.
For instance, in romantic novels, two lovers devote enormous effort to
overcoming obstacles and hardships, ultimately finding their happily ever
after. Books like these can give us hope for a brighter future.
. Do you think e-books will make people read more? Why?

I believe that digital books can foster people to read more. First, e-books can
be easily accessed from various devices like smartphones, tablets, etc.
Therefore, readers do not need to physically visit a library or bookstore, which
saves a lot of time and effort. Another reason is that E-books allow readers to
carry an entire library in one portable device, which provides flexibility and
convenience. They can now indulge in reading while commuting to work,
traveling, or even waiting at the airports.

Part 2: Describe an expensive gift that you would like to give someone when you
save a lot of money

You should say:

What the gift is

Who you will give the gift to

How long will it take to save the money

And explain why you would like to give the gift to this person

Answer: Ever since I was a teenager, I have had this wish, which is to buy my mum a
new car when I am financially secure. When I was an elementary student, my mother
bought a gray Kia car which has served our family for over a decade. Being in use for
that long, the car breaks down quite often and requires
proper maintenance frequently. My mum who drives the car to work and picks up
my sister on a daily basis finds it very inconvenient.

However, I acknowledge that my goal is not easy to attain. In Vietnam, a new decent
car costs at least 400 million VND, which is an enormous amount for me as a
university student with a part-time job earning around 2 million VND per month.
Saving up such a significant amount would undoubtedly pose a challenge.
Realistically, I estimate that it will take me approximately 5 to 7 years
to accumulate the necessary funds. In 2 years’ time, upon graduation from university,
I intend to secure a full-time job. In addition to my full-time job, I plan to continue
my current part-time position and explore various online freelance opportunities
to diversify my income. Moreover, I also have a strategy to invest in bonds and
foreign exchange, which can potentially yield additional earnings. With
these endeavors, I aim to save at least 100 million VND annually, gradually inching
closer to my goal of buying my mother a new car.

Buying a new car for my mum has always been on my bucket list. My mum has
wholeheartedly dedicated herself to our family and she always allocates the
majority of her salary for our necessities such as food, education, and clothes. She
rarely buys anything new for herself, so I always want to surprise her with a new car
to show her my love, deep respect, and gratitude. Additionally, my mum is a practical
woman who shows no interest in gifts like flowers or luxury clothes, hence a new car
would be appropriate. With a new car, she will no longer struggle to commute to work
or to travel to her hometown to visit my grandparents.

In short, buying my mother a new car is one of my biggest goals at the moment. It is
likely to take a long time but I believe that hard work pays off. One day, my mum will
be able to drive a brand new car as a gift from me.

Part 3
. What do young people like to save money for?

From my point of view, young people strive to save money for various
reasons. First, they may accumulate funds for big-ticket items such as a house
or a car. These purchases often demand significant savings so young people
may have to stay on a tight budget for several years. Moreover, some young
people may save money to build an emergency fund. This fund proves
invaluable in unforeseen situations such as an unexpected illness, sudden job
loss, or economic recession as the money saved can help young individuals
handle those unpredictable circumstances with less stress.
. Is it easy for people to save money to buy something expensive?

I think the ease of saving money greatly differs from person to person. Factors
such as income level and living expenses have a significant impact on one's
ability to save. On the one hand, people who have low income or high living
expenses may struggle to save money for something exorbitant. For example,
a blue-collar worker with a minimum wage job may have difficulty saving a
huge amount of money because he or she prioritizes basic necessities like
food and rent.. On the other hand, individuals with higher incomes can enjoy
the luxury of purchasing high-priced items without facing excessive financial
strain thanks to their larger monthly savings.
. Should children have pocket money? Why?

I strongly believe that children should be provided with a monthly allowance.

First, by being given the responsibility of managing their finances, children
can understand the value of money. As a result, they tend to carefully spend on
their preferred items rather than incessantly plead with their parents for
everything they desire. Additionally, having pocket money from a young age
gives children the chance to develop money management skills that will
prove crucial in their future lives. Parents giving their children money can help
them nurture their independence.
. Should children learn how to use money at school or from their parents?
I believe that children should be educated about money usage both by teachers
and parents. At school, with structured syllabi and well-trained educators,
children can learn some money terms, such as handling cash,
making transactions, or the concept of value. Furthermore, at home, parents
can incorporate real-life scenarios and personal experiences into teaching
their children about money. For example, before a grocery shopping trip,
parents can instruct their children on setting a budget, bargaining or
comparing the prices.
. How do people save money?

There are various methods of saving money. First, setting a budget helps
individuals track their income and expenses, allowing them to decide areas
to curtail the spending. Second, some people set up automatic transfers from
their paycheck to a savings account on a specific day monthly. This is an
effective way for them to save a portion of their income before spending it.
Last but not least, people can save money by buying cheaper items. They can
bargain, compare prices or utilize coupons and cashback apps when making
purchases.
. Why can’t some people save money?

Individuals can struggle to set some money aside for various reasons. First, a
low income coupled with high living expenses can make it difficult for
individuals to allocate any funds for savings. For example, a blue-collar
worker with a minimum pay wage in a large city needs to allocate all his
income for exorbitant rent and expensive food. Another reason is the tendency
to make excessive purchases to satisfy individuals’ instant gratification.
Nowadays, with the availability of credit cards and online shopping platforms,
namely Shopee, many people frequently indulge in online shopping without
considering the implications for their long-term financial goals.

Part 2: Describe a traditional celebration in your country that you enjoy

You should say:

 What it is
 What you do to celebrate it
 Who you celebrate it with

Answer: I was born and raised in Vietnam, therefore, national traditions have been a
great part of my life and I love every single one of them. But if I really had to choose,
I would say Lunar New Year, or as my country will call it: “Tet”, is a tradition I am
most fond of.

Starting off with its definition, Lunar New Year is the beginning of the year in the
Lunar calendar. This festival is celebrated by many people that come from Asian
Heritages all around the world. Lunar New Year usually takes place in late January to
early February each year and spans for 4 days to a week.

During Lunar New Year vacation, we have numerous activities to ensure a

festive ambience. I would say no activity is more significant than the other since
everything we do helps create this joyous occasion. There are festivities that we do
every year such as decorating the house and keeping it spotless to welcome New
Year, exchanging lucky money in a red envelope to wish for wealth and health,
making bánh chung, Lunar New Year’s traditional food and having a Year End Party
where the whole family gathers around for a meal in a festive mood.

In regards to what my family and I do for Tet, we have a long-standing tradition that
has been in my family for more than 2 decades now. My grandmother has 6 brothers
and sisters. Every year without fail, my extended family would go to each of the
grandparents’ house to spend time with one another. The reason why I cherish this
event is because after a long, hectic year, we get to put everything behind and be
surrounded by the people we love.

Part 3:
. Is it important for children to learn about traditional festivals at school?

Yes, of course. I grew up in a traditional family and was exposed to a lot of

traditions ever since I was still a little kid. Having the chance to celebrate and
observe the people around me during these festivals, I became more honored
to be a part of my community and to have a chance to celebrate them
with pride for the nation.
. Do children like to learn about traditional festivals?

Absolutely. I used to be a teaching assistant for a small class of elementary

students and whenever I tell them about the origins of our national traditions,
they always lend all ears and listen to me eagerly. This makes me so honored
to be able to pass down our folks to the young generation.
. Why do people hold events to celebrate?

In my opinion, there are two main reasons. One is to memorize events of the
past. Some special events for Vietnamese are Independence day
and Vietnam’s War Invalids and Martyrs Day which all remind us of how
bravely we fought in the war. The second reason is that events are a
justification for us to take a day off and spend time with our families and
friends.
. Are traditional festivals disappearing?

I do not think so, at least not in my country. As deep-rooted Vietnamese, my

family and I love our traditional rituals during holidays such as Tet or Mid -
Autumn festival. Every year without fail, my family would gather around and
enjoy the festive atmosphere together. I am very proud that our traditions only
grow stronger as time goes by.
. Is music important in traditional festivals?
Extremely. For a very long time now, people have been expressing their
emotions through music. Special songs are often associated with certain
festivals as a way to enhance it. For example, during Tet, there are special
songs that are supposed to bring about prosperity. One special song during
this time is the lion dance where the performers wear a lion costume and dance
along to the music; folks believe that this dance scares away bad luck.
. Do you think good food and drinks are important for celebrations?

I believe that cuisine is a big cultural factor in celebrations. In many different

countries, certain food symbolizes a certain period of time or cultural aspect
of a country. For instance, in Vietnam, “banh chung” and “banh day” reflect
Vietnamese traditional roots and without it during Lunar New Year, the
celebration will lose its color.

Part 2: Describe an interesting job that you want to have in the future

You should say:

 what the job is
 how you learned about this job
 what skills this job requires

and explain why you would like to do this job

Answer: Ever since I was a little kid, I have had a strong enthusiasm for the
healthcare field, since I was born into a family of doctors. As I got to learn more
about the specific professions, I fell in love with dentistry and dreamt to become one
someday.
This job requires its practitioners to offer a set of complex skills. The most important
one being manual dexterity. The hand flexibility enables a dentist to complete their
job with precision in order to ensure the safety of their patients and also
the integrity of the profession. In addition, you also need to invest significantly in
your education. Depending on which country you decide on studying in. you have to
complete at least 5 to 7 years of dental school and another 2 or 3 years
or supervised clinical work in order to practice.

Having the privilege of being exposed to the dentistry field before I picked it as a
major, I realized being a dentist also demands different qualities aside from being
smart academically. First of all, in order to become a successful dentist, I need to have
good judgment. As the world evolves, techniques and technology also change, having
good judgment means I am willing to acquire new, essential knowledge that helps
with my profession everyday. Moreover, professionalism also affects my future
career positively. By being professional, I must be diligent, competent and reliable.
Only when I provide my patients with good service and are able to
be accountable for my actions can I gain their trust. Consequently, through my
credibility I will be able to maintain an adequate client base.

The fact that dentistry involves so many skills academically and practically helps
me strive for a better version of myself, which is exactly why I fell in love with the
profession.

Part 3:
. What are the most popular jobs for young people in your country?
Nowadays, undergraduates in my country tend to pick Information
Technology as their major. After getting this degree, they can work for big
tech companies like Google or Facebook. The reason for this trend, I suppose,
is because in today’s modern day and age, technology is growing rapidly and
its development can not be spared and technology related jobs demands will
continue to be high.
. What is the difference between high-income and low-income jobs in your
country?

In addition to the obvious disparity - the income, people of high-paying jobs

earn more respect and carry good societal status while those with lower-
income jobs can suffer from social inequality. Consequently, in less equal
societies, when the poor are treated unfairly, they are more likely to be
unhappy or to be convicted for crimes.
. When is the right time for young people to start making serious plans for
their future careers?

The optimal time for students to start making plans for their career in the
future is at the start of college. The main reason for this is because what these
teens decide to study at university level needs to be crucial and applicable to
their occupations in the future. If one studies a certain major. For the entirety
of their college years and decide to specialize in another as a postgraduate,
their knowledge and experiences will go to waste.
. Which jobs have the highest salaries?

From my observation, jobs that involve scientific work usually provide its
practitioners with quite a fair amount of money. People like scientists or
doctors take years-long training to gain an adequate amount of knowledge in
order to provide their services, and through this they certainly earn a good
salary. However, with this international integration, people rely more and
more on finding recreational contents, hence, even people less trained like
influencers can make a fortune.
. Which jobs pay low wages but require a high level of skills?

In my opinion, a job that is extremely under-paid but is also very intricate is

being a teacher. As teachers, people have the opportunity to pass on their
knowledge to the younger minds and help shape their personalities and future
abilities. However, this job is poorly paid in many countries around the world,
which is woeful being a teacher is a job of delicacy.
. Do you think it is important for secondary schools to offer career advice
to students?
Career guidance is one of the most important parts of orienting childrens
towards a career path most suited for them. Usually pupils have to choose their
life-long professions at a very young age, therefore, with the help of career
advisors, they can make informed decisions about their educational options,
and consequently, their future career.

Part 2: Describe a park or a garden in your city.

You should say:

How often you go there

Where it is

Who you often go there with

What it is like

Explain why you like to visit it.

Answer: At the centre of my hometown lies Vi Xuyen Park, a place that every citizen
from Nam Dinh holds dear to their hearts, and I am not an exception!
Surrounding the equally-as-gorgeous Vi Xuyen Lake, the park is always brimming
with birdsong and the infectious laughter of parkgoers. It is also the number one spot
in my hometown to hold community gatherings, or to provide a safe haven from the
sweltering summer days. Especially during summer evenings, adults and children
alike turn out in force to enjoy the breeze from the lake!

When I was in high school, I visited the park every weekend to either take pictures of
the gorgeous scenery, or to get a couple of exercise routines in. Often accompanying
me was my best friend, and we made many fond memories there, which I
still cherish to these days. Sadly, I cannot visit the park as much nowadays because I
moved, but I still try to revisit it every time I go back to my hometown for a trip
down memory lane.

 Turn out in force: tụ tập đông người
 Cherish: trân trọng

Part 3:
. Do young people like to go to parks?

I think parks are still very popular with young people, as they provide a spot
for youngsters to hang out without having to pay any fees. Typically, clubs
and groups of friends can bask in the scenery and chit-chat with each other,
and sports aficionados can hone their skills in the park. My little brother, for
example, goes to the local park very often, though I suspect it might be
because of the ice-cream vendors near the park!
. What do old people like to do in parks?

In my observation, older generations tend to exercise in the parks, as they

usually offer various public facilities for citizens to stay in shape. For
example, some may enjoy running, while others practice tai chi in large
groups. In between the exercises, they may catch up with each other on their
daily lives, and trade gossip about their neighbourhood.
. What benefits can parks bring to a city?

Well, as I mentioned before, parks are a great place for community bonding
for youngsters and older generations alike. In addition to that, parks can do the
environment a world of good, because the large number of trees means that
more carbon dioxide is absorbed. They are a breath of fresh air, literally!
. Why do some people like planting flowers?

Obviously, flowers’ colors brighten wherever they are placed, and the scent
they give off is out of this world. Besides that, watching something you have
dedicated a lot of time to blossom is one of the best feelings in the world!
. Would you say people should help maintaining public parks and gardens?

Of course, I think the public should contribute to sustaining parks & gardens.
This can range from planting trees and flowers, cutting grass to simply not
littering. The duty should not solely fall on public workers, so everyone needs
to lend a helping hand.

Từ vựng:
 Bask in: tận hưởng
 Aficionado: người hâm mộ cuồng nhiệt
 Do sth a world of good: làm điều tốt đẹp
 Out of this world: tuyệt vời
 Lend a helping hand: giúp đỡ

Part 2: Describe a beautiful city

You should say:

Where the city is

How you knew about the city

What buildings the city has

What it is famous for

Explain why you think this city is beautiful.

Answer: I do not have the financial means to travel to most cities around the world,
but if you asked me what is the most impressive city from the outside looking in, I
would have to say Paris - the capital of France.

Growing up as a latchkey child, I often had to entertain myself with books - in fact, I
still am an avid book reader now! I especially love books on geography and foreign
cultures, and on one occasion, I found myself reading a book about French culture. I
was especially impressed with the section on Paris and the grandeur of the pictures
taken there. The author took pictures of not only well-known tourist destinations like
the Eiffel Tower, but also some hidden gems in Paris. The book impressed me so
much that I have been in love with Paris ever since!

I think Paris is gorgeous because the whole city is so romantic - its nickname ‘The
City of Love’ is well-earned! The Paris architecture is a wonderful mixture of
historical eras, too. Therefore, Paris is definitely on my bucket list to visit one day.

Từ vựng:
 From the outside looking in: từ ngoài nhìn vào

Part 3:
. What is the difference between modern towns and modern cities?

The most striking difference between present-day towns and cities is the
population: cities are much more crowded as a result of the hustle and bustle.
As a result, traffic jams are an usual sight, and sometimes traveling between
work and home can take hours. Meanwhile, small towns are much more
peaceful, and there is a sense of community between the neighbourhoods.
. Why do some people like to visit historical sites?

People enjoy paying a visit to historical sites because of the values they
represent. They act as a reflection of the lives of past generations, including
architecture, lifestyles and more. For example, the Doc Lap Palace in Ho Chi
Minh City is still a popular site, because it marked the climax of the Vietnam
War and the independence of the Southern Vietnam region.
. How can people preserve historic cities and buildings?
I think the government and local residents need to work hand in hand in
order to sustain historic sites. Community outreach is important to maintain
the facilities of such sites, and urban planners need to be careful during tours
of these sites.
. Is it the government’s responsibility to preserve historic buildings?

The government should definitely contribute to the maintenance of ancient

landmarks, but the public should also be taken into consideration as well. Most
often, the governments are at the helm of preservation projects, but a lack of
local input in such projects may damage historic sites beyond repair.

Từ vựng:
 Hustle and bustle: tấp nập
 Climax: đỉnh điểm, cao trào
 Work hand in hand: hợp tác
