manipulatives and recording themselves explaining their thinking on Seesaw.

Telling Objective
Today we are going to learn about creating our own story problems and solving using math
manipulatives and explaining our thinking.

Purpose
The purpose of the lesson is for students to be able to apply their knowledge of adding numbers with
sums to 10 by showing how they are able to create their own word problem and explain how they
solved it.
Materials needed:
● Number Bonds anchor chart
● Nonstandard units of measurement: Unifix cubes, counting bears, counting squares
● Number bond record sheet

Guided Practice
The teacher will ask the students to share ways they are able to create their own word problem.

Independent Practice
The students will create a math story problem in their journals. Then students will show their answer
in a number bond and submit a recorded response on Seesaw.

Closure
Ask the students: who can tell us what we learned today?
The teacher will remind the students that today they learned how to create their own word problems
and explain their thinking on Seesaw.
Differentiated Instruction:
ELL: I will provide an anchor chart with visuals on how to measure the length of an object. I will use a
variety of math tools to give students the opportunity to show what they know in a variety of ways.
Students can refer to the anchor chart for reference of the pictures of number bonds plus sentence
frames. I will provide this student with the opportunity to explain their thinking on Seesaw.
Social emotional needs: Uses a sticker chart for behavior. Earns stickers for completing work
throughout the day. Gives positive praise while working independently to gain confidence to complete
an activity.
GIfted student: I will provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of this student by extending
the activity by using numbers that have a sum greater than 10.
