Session 1: Speaking
Lead in activity
Look at the pictures and describe them.
Who do you prefer, the boy or the girl? Why?
Possible answers
The picture on the left shows a boy sitting in an armchair in his bedroom.
He’s doing nothing and his room is very disordered. The picture on the right
shows a girl in her bedroom. She is sitting at a desk in front of a computer.
Her room is clean and well ordered.
I prefer the girl because she is well organized, courageous / hardworking.
Learning context: During an English club session, the students of
2nd…of…are discussing about the qualities a student
should have in order to be good at school.
Announce of the lesson: Today, we will talk about qualities, attitudes.

I- VOCABULARY: Words and expressions related to qualities.


Bossy: someone who likes giving orders to others
Confident: sure and certain
Hardworking: someone who works hard (a lot)
Lazy ≠ Hardworking
Efficient: efficacious
Selfish: egoistic, egotistic
Stubborn: →A good student is stubborn at work.
→He refuses to obey his parents, he is stubborn.
Studious: someone who loves studying

Application: Consider the adjectives in Exo.2 and decide which are positive,
negative or both. Which adjectives would you use to describe

The boy looks lazy, because he’s doing nothing and his bedroom is really messy. He
didn’t make his bed and his school things are spread out on the floor.
The girl looks studious, organized and responsible. She may also be hard-working.
Her bed is made and her bedroom is very tidy. She’s sitting at her desk with books
next to her.

II- LANGUAGE FUNCTION: Using present tenses


a- Present simple
 We use present simple for habits and facts.
Example: I always get up at 6 O’clock / Fanta likes fish.
 We also use present simple with stative verbs (like, look, want, know…)
Example: I want to be a teacher.
b-Present continuous
 We use present continuous for actions happening now.
Example: The students are listening to the teacher.
 We also use present continuous for actions happening around now.
Example: Governments are fighting against Covid-19.
Application: Complete the sentences with the verbs in the box. Use the
correct form of the present simple or the present continuous

Activity 3: Read the text again and decide whether the following statements

Activity 4: Your cousin Koné is blamed for eating too fast. For them eating
rapidly is negative and shows the image of a greedy person who doesn’t
want to share with others. As a member of the family who does not agree
with the others, you decide to show the defection (weakness) of their point of
view. In groups of four students, write your arguments in 8 lines maxi and
read it to the class.
Your arguments will focus on:
- Eating fast as a time saving style
- Eating fast as a natural characteristic of people who have high
consideration for others
- Eating fast has nothing to do with neither selfishness nor greediness.

I talk to my aunt Flora when I need help. For example, when I started my
new school, an older girl was horrible to me. My aunt told me not to be

stopped bullying me.

Session 4: Writing a description of a person


Lead in activity
Read the paragraph 2 (Far Ahead 2nd / p.12 / text).
- What is the mean idea?
- Which sentence introduces the mean idea?
- What is the position of this sentence in the paragraph?
Text
When people of your own age and status try to influence how you act, it's
called peer pressure. The pressure to conform can be powerful and hard to
resist. Many people give in to peer pressure because they want to be liked,
to fit in or because they're afraid of looking uncool. Others go along because
they are curious to try something new. The idea that 'everyone's doing it'
can influence some teenagers to ignore their better judgment

Learning context: Your Ghanaian friend asks you to make a description of
your best friend in order to know how he / she looks like.
To succeed this activity, you decide to learn how to make

Some definitions
-Description: is to describe someone or something in more details.
-Physical description: is to describe the appearance of somebody.
Generally, it starts by the head down to the feet.
-Moral description: is to describe the behavior of the concerned person
(attitude, mood, temper, humor).

Writing strategy
-Topic sentences: they are sentences that tell readers what the rest of the
paragraph is about (usually the first sentence of the
paragraph).
-Topic sentence explanation: explain the topic sentence by providing more
details.
-Examples: evidence or facts to prove what we have said is true.

Guidelines
-Paragraph 1: present the person and describe your relationship.
-Paragraph 2: describe the person’s personality (positive and negative
aspects).
-Paragraph 3: say how the person has influenced you. Give an example.
-Paragraph 4: write a conclusion summarizing how you feel about the
person.
Remark: Use adjectives, comparison, appropriate tenses, etc…

Application: Read the model text below. Then match topic sentences (a-d)
