A total of six Indonesian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in the coffee
business penetrated market access to the United States, through the 2022 Specialty Coffee Expo
(SCE) which was held on 8-10 April 2022 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
The six business actors in the coffee, chocolate and beverage ingredients sector include Bandung
(Java Halu Coffee Farm), DKI Jakarta (PT Sanika Indonesia Sukses), (Caldera Coffee),
chocolate - Tangerang (Cokelatin Indonesia), (Hiro & Cocoatree) and beverage ingredients -
Surabaya, East Java, which is managed by PT. Indonesia's Main Deli.
Head of the Legal and Cooperation Bureau and Head of the Delegation of the Ministry of
Cooperatives and SMEs (KemenKopUKM) Henra Saragih said that this was one of the efforts to
expand market access for Indonesian coffee products.
"Through this event, it is hoped that business actors can obtain maximum potential orders so that
they can increase the value of Indonesian coffee exports in international markets, especially the
United States," he said, Monday (11/4/2022).
A number of countries that have sent orders and sample orders include buyers from the United
States and outside the United States including Canada, Argentina and Ecuador.
Henra emphasized that in increasing the marketing of Indonesian coffee products in the United
States market through facilitation at the 2022 Specialty Coffee Expo, KemenKopUKM will
continue to support Indonesian coffee sector players .
This is in line with the government's efforts in developing Indonesian SMEs and Cooperatives,
the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs is committed to empowering SMEs and Cooperatives
through various sector strengthening programs from upstream to downstream. The exhibition is
considered strategic for the Indonesian coffee market segment.
The reason is, this exhibition was attended by approximately 9,200 coffee producers and coffee
processing equipment businesses and was attended by more than 30 countries, such as Colombia,
Guatemala, Honduras, Ethiopia, Puerto Rico, Turkey, Rwanda, Belgium, South Korea.
"This is one of the strategic efforts that can lift not only the image of Indonesian coffee products
in the international market. But also open wider market access for superior coffee products from
various regions in Indonesia," he said.
Through proper guidance and assistance, as well as synergies and collaborations with
stakeholders, KemenKopUKM is optimistic that Indonesian coffee can expand access to
international markets and improve the welfare of SMEs
The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in New York Arifin Saiman welcomed the
facilitation of coffee business actors from Indonesia that had been carried out by the Ministry of
Cooperatives and SMEs and encouraged improvements in the following year.
"To welcome green business in 2025 in the USA, it is hoped that MSE players will prepare
environmentally friendly packaging so that it can be accepted by the United States market,"
Arifin added.
