Optional Rule: Dark Bargain
Often, a hero's story ends far sooner than the fates meant for.
Other times, some higher power takes notice of a promising
mortal soul entering the nether realm and offers a second
chance, in exchange for servitude. For occasions such as
those, when a character dies but wishes to come back and
continue advancing the story, there is the option of a Dark
Bargain.
Contrary to what the name may foreshadow, the bargain
needn't necessary be dark in its nature, and it needn't be
offered by a dark or evil being. Each character can only make
one Dark Bargain per campaign, and that bargain must be
made at the moment when the character dies. At the start of
its next turn after the bargain is made, the character that
made it returns to life with 1 hit point and the following
changes:
The character can choose to take a permanent -2 penalty
to one of its ability scores to immediately gain the Prestige
Warlock feat. Alternatively, the character can replace any
feat they already had with the Prestige Warlock feat.
The character becomes affected by a geas spell cast by the
patron they made the bargain with. This geas spell
ignores immunity to the charmed condition, is permanent
and can only be ended by a wish spell or deific
intervention. Most often, this results in the character
undertaking a grand quest in the name of their patron.
