1.0 Definition of Management

Management is the administration and coordination of tasks to accomplish a goal is management.

Setting the organization's strategy and organizing staff efforts to achieve these goals through the

application of resources available are examples of such administration activities. The seniority

system used for staff workers inside a company is also referred to as management. You literally

need to develop a set of skills, including planning, communication, organization, and leadership

so you can be an effective manager. You will also need to know the company’s goals and how to

direct employees, sales, and other operations.

There are generally five essential tasks that a manager must perform. First and foremost, setting

the objectives which is setting and achieving goals is one of the many diverse tactics a manager

employs to achieve and sustain success. Additionally, they must be able to win over their group

or workforce. For instance, a restaurant manager may express their desire to reduce long waits

and remind personnel that quicker service results in greater revenue and gratuities. The next one

is organizing. It is because managers evaluate the scope of the job, divide it into doable tasks,

and effectively distribute it to staff members. A company is comprised of several connections

among its many sections and other organizations. The manager's responsibility is to ensure that

these individuals and entities work well with each other, which includes motivating staff

members and departments to remain focused. A brilliant manager is skilled at encouraging

productive working relationships between teammates and can provide solutions when problems

occur. To keep things organized, a manager must establish authority relationships with every

member of their team. Businesses that make the most of their organizational structures can

improve their market efficiency, reduce costs, and increase production.

3
Other than that, they must motivate the team. Regarding the duties of planning and delegating,

motivation includes the capacity to handle various kinds of personalities in a team. A good leader

must be able to create and manage effective teams and motivate them to support a cause.

Manager also should devise systems of measurement. Managers must first set the team's goals or

KPIs in order to assess if their organization is on track to meet its objectives. Because it may be

challenging to find quantifiable means of understanding performance, managers typically need to

be creative and careful. It is like the other management activities such as measuring is crucial for

enhancing business performance. Lastly, managers must know how to developing people. Along

with directing them toward that goal and tracking their success along the way, good managers

invest in the development of their staff. For instance, managers might assist their staff in creating

goals for professional progression. Managers need to be leaders in order to use these five

methods effectively. They must coach their team members for them to recognize their talents and

weaknesses and perform at a greater level. Managers may have different leadership philosophies.

Managers should develop their leadership skills to become effective leaders, despite of their

management style.

2.0 Definition of Organization

An organisation is a group of individuals working together to achieve predetermined goals. It can

be viewed as a social structure that includes all formally recognised human interactions. The

organisation includes task alignment with respect to the company's ultimate aim and the division

of labour among personnel. It can also be referred to as the second-most significant managerial

activity, coordinating employee efforts, acquiring resources, and fusing the two in support of

organisational objectives.

4
The first of the organization's five steps is the determination and classification of the firm's

activities. The second step is to organise the activity into manageable departments. The third step

entails giving the department executive responsibility and authority to carry out the work that has

been entrusted to them. The final step involves defining policies for proper coordination between

the superior and subordinate and generating particular lines of supervision. Step four involves

developing relationships between superior and subordinate and creating specific lines of

supervision.

Goals are the focus of organisation, which works to achieve them through careful planning and

activity coordination. It is based on the concept of work division and establishes an authority-

responsibility relationship among the organization's members.

3.0 Background of On Demand Destination Sdn. Bhd

We have a solid reputation as a travelling organisation. On Demand Destination is the name of

our business. Our business was founded in March 2018 through a partnership. We have five

partners, and each one of them owns stock in the business. We chose travel above other

industries because we wanted to offer a single agency that could satisfy the needs and wants of

customers who wanted to travel. The trip packages we offer are always being updated, and they

all change from time to time. This is so that we can differentiate ourselves from other travel

agencies for the benefit of our clients. In addition, we already have two locations, one in Alor

Setar, Kedah and one in Perlis. To make it simpler for customers to work with us, if we make

more money, we plan to open two more branches in any state. Additionally, we want to improve

the reputation of our business so that more people are aware of our agency. We currently have 22

5
workers working for us to manage our business. Our business only arranges travel within

Malaysia, such as vacations to Pulau Langkawi, boot camps, or other interesting locations.

Additionally, we want to create a package for international travel, but first we need to learn more

about it and improve the financial health and profitability of our business. In addition, we

provide holiday packages for newlywed couples in addition to holiday packages for the entire

family. We provide vacation packages ranging in price from pricey to affordable. There are

numerous bundles to choose from. This is because we want to offer a range of packages that

everyone, from the wealthy to the less wealthy, can enjoy. For instance, we offered a 4-day, 3-

night travel package that included all the necessary amenities, including lodging, food, and so on.

4.0 Vision, Mission, and Objectives of On Demand Destination Sdn. Bhd

4.1 Vision of ODD Sdn Bhd

Vision is described as "the act of power of imagination" by Merriam-Webster. You may

visualize the future and utilize that image to guide your actions when you employ vision. A sense

of motivation can be given by using vision as a guide.

Our vision is “To be a reputable and trusted travel agent company to the international level.”

This is since anyone involved in the travel industry will be very hopeful that their company will

grow and be capable of competing internationally.

4.2 Mission of ODD Sdn. Bhd

A mission is simply describing what you are doing and who you serve as a result. Your identity,

what you do, and why you do it are all described in your mission statement. Use of phrases that

6
are not ambiguous is something you want to avoid while formulating your mission. Therefore,

we really ensure that we concentrate on avoiding buzzwords and getting to the fundamental

outcomes of what your organization provides, rather than utilizing buzzwords or items that look

like features, when we design a mission statement. If you examine your organization's mission,

does it share any similarities with other organization’s missions or does it have a concept that not

everyone agrees on the definition? People will be working on various things to different degrees

if you and your team cannot agree on the definition of the keywords in your purpose.

Our organization's first mission is to "help to enhance the standards and standard of tourism for

the general public and expand tourism potential to the community of low and average profits in

urban and rural areas by offering cheap tourism services." We actually have five missions in total

for this organization. The next sentence reads, "Offering accommodations, hassle-free travel,

effective management, and tour packages at reasonable pricing." Focusing on the convenience

and safety of clients who utilize our services is the third one. 'Offering option so that you can

travel in your own way or in our way' is the fourth one. The final one is "Improving the

interaction between our party's clients and ourselves to foster a peaceful environment in addition

to aiding the travel and tourism industry to continue moving forward."

4.3 Objectives of ODD Sdn. Bhd

Business objectives are the specific results that can be measured that firms want to maintain as

they grow. Owners and executives of companies must keep an eye on performance across the

board to make sure that their companies are moving in the right direction. Business goals also

serve as a compass for the firm, pointing out how to divide up its assets, constraints, and

untapped potential. Goals typically remain constant until situations in the business change.

7
Next, we will look at some instances of business objectives. While business goals outline the

destination the organization wishes to reach, objectives specify the path to get there. Businesses

that do not define long-term objectives and KPIs struggle to grow as swiftly as their rivals.

Additionally, we conclude the instances of common business goals that are revenue goals. For

any firm, sustaining continuous profitability is essential. Without continuous profits, no business

can be profitable. A significant technique to monitor a company's sustainability is through

tracking its revenue. The following one is significant because it deals with customer happiness.

We are aware that in any business, the consumer is always put first. To make sure they are

leaving the appropriate impression, certain businesses frequently survey their customers.

Additionally, all businesses must track both short- and long-term growth. Growth can be seen in

the number of followers on social media, revenue, product sales, and other indicators.

According to that, our objectives for the organizations are we want to ‘Assist in increasing the

economic growth of the country.’ Other than that, it can ‘Giving an opportunity for parents to

bring their children exploring Malaysia.’ Also, we want to ‘Offer available services to meet

tourism demand.’ Finally, of course we want ‘To be a company that is committed to the tourism

industry.’

and technology. The P-O-L-C categorization of management functions continues to serve as an

effective framework for classifying the activities managers engage in as they attempt to achieve

organizational goals.

decision-makers. The process of planning involves various steps. Environmental scanning is the

first step in the procedure. Analyzing the major external risks that an organization faces in terms

of the economy, competitors, and consumers. Planners need to be aware of the crucial risks and

10
trends that their businesses face in terms of the economy, competitors, and customers. The next

step is for planners to try to predict future conditions. Planning is based on these estimates.

a) Strategic Planning

strengths and weaknesses, in order to position the company to compete successfully in its

environment. Strategic planning typically lasts three years or more. Strategic planning, which

done to successfully carry out the strategic plan. Compared to strategic planning, it is short-term

and intermediate planning. Tactical planning is done by middle management (Functional

Manager, Product-line Manager, Department Manager). Here is the example of tactical planning

11
in our company. Firstly, we desire to develop a diverse group of new hires and keep them on the

job for a long time and restructure the company to better reflect the sector it serves.

c) Operational planning

It is a short-term planning strategy that aids the organization's first two types of plans. The main

emphasis is on creating procedures and measures that can aid in the successful execution of the

both strategic and tactical plans. While operational planning is concerned with the effectiveness

of the previous two types of plans in the short term, tactical and strategic planning consider the

longer-term goals. Operational planning typically has a duration of less than a year, such as

monthly or biannual planning. First line of management (unit managers, team leaders, first-line

supervisor) who is responsible for this operational management. For instance, they need to

having a meeting with the employees as the evaluation. Besides, they have to get prepared to

take part in any contest or event.

6.2 Organizing

Organizing can be defined as a process that initiates implementation of plans by clarifying jobs,

working relationships and effectively deploying resources for attainment of identified and

desired results which is known as goals. Usually, the structure of organization represented by an

organization chart that show the internal structure of an organization or company. For making

decision process, they must refer to organizational design decisions because each individual jobs

in organization have their own duties and responsibilities and it is necessary to refer them to get

the good ideas. Therefore, they need to ask their department manager’s opinion, then the

12
manager will go to their head of department before refer to their chief executive officers to get

the best decision.

Our travel company has various procedure before offering any interesting places to our

customers. For example, our Research & Development team will go some selected place in

Malaysia and will experience by themselves how the owner of the place serves their customer.

They also will find a hotel that nearby with many interesting places so our customer will not feel

bored and just staying at their hotel because all interesting places far away from them. Next, after

our Research & Development team come back from their “vacation”, they will present all the

interesting places, pros and cons that our customer will get from their holiday with Tour

Manager, Finance Manager and also Managing Director. Then, our Finance Manager will start

calculating all the prices before compiling into some packages that we will offer to our customer.

After that, Finance Manager will present the overall calculation to our Managing Director before

we get the final word either we will offer the package or not. If our Managing Director accept the

package we create, the next step would be our Tour Manager’s jobs. They will deal with the

owner of chosen places. After that our promoting team will publish the packages to our customer

suitable with Malaysia seasons.

In our company, we constantly emphasizing teamwork in our organization. Even everyone has

their own jobs, but it is necessary for people to help one another. Study shows that organizations

that emphasize teamwork can innovate faster, see mistakes more quickly, find better solutions to

problems and attain higher productivity. Hence, improving our company teamwork may increase

the performance for the benefit of the organization. We as well believe that working in a team

can assist in maintaining the workplace enjoyable and reduce the stress while working. The best

choice will be made if no pressure is exerted while making the decision.

13
Leading

The ability of an individual or a group of individuals to influence and guide followers or other

members of an organization is referred to as leadership. A leader must also inspire others to do

something new and better, particularly for their company or organization. Typically, their

success will be measured by examining the team's accomplishments over the course of the year

or possibly by the month. Furthermore, leaders are not always those who hold higher positions in

an organization, but rather those who are known for their beliefs and work ethics when

performing their duties. Since each department has a different scope of work, the leader's

behavior might indeed different. In other words, great leaders know how to both inspire and gain

the trust of their teams in order to accomplish the tasks required to accomplish the leader's goal.

Individuals with these qualities of leadership can also advance to executive management or C-

level positions in business, such as CEO, CIO, or president. It is because they will serve as the

project's mastermind and will guide their employees to successfully complete any project. Even

if some leaders have a higher position than others, they still need to do the same work but look to

help employees find their internal motivation to achieve it. As a result, it is essential for a leader

to continue learning about leadership in order to ensure that employees' work environments are

both happy and productive. There are 4 basic styles of leadership that is autocratic leadership,

democratic leadership, laissez-faire leadership and bureaucratic leadership.

In On Demand Destination Sdn. Bhd., we practicing democratic leadership. Democratic

leadership is a type of leadership that requires that all members of the group take part in

decision-making. For example, in order for our company's decision-making process to be

effective, all departments must contribute ideas. Everyone from our employees to our managing

director will be involved in this process because we genuinely think everyone has good

14
suggestions that can assist us make the best decision possible. We also will collaborate by

encouraging group members to voice their thoughts and opinions, despite the fact that leader

retains final decision-making authority. Furthermore, those group members who are willing to

contribute the best ideas will be rewarded with some benefits as a token of our appreciation for

their attempts. After all, research has proven that democratic leadership is one of the most

effective types, that leads to increased productivity, better contributions from group members,

and higher group morale.

Controlling

Controlling is one of the manager’s main responsibilities. The manager must exert effective

control over the behaviour of the subordinates if they are to produce the desired results. Or, to

put it another way, the control role’s purpose can be understood as ensuring that business

operations are carried out in accordance with the plans. Controlling frequently ensures that an

entity uses its resources wisely and effectively to achieve defined goals. According to the general

policies and objectives of the organisation, managers are in charge of supervising daily

operations. The manager must also keep an eye out for and report deviations from plans and

objectives, as well as take corrective action as necessary.

Controlling can assist On Demand in accomplishing its organisational objectives. The

achievement of activities that advance the organisational goals. It helps in directing the

organisational goals that a control function may achieve. A strict controlling can assist On

Demand in determining the consistency of the criteria. A strict monitoring structure will be used

by management to guarantee that the criteria set are good. Next , controlling can help the

business utilize capital in an effective way. The operation is carried out is such a way that the

predetermined specifications and expectations ensure that the tools for further use of funds are

15
used most effectively and efficiently. This is another key control function. The importance of

controlling also includes facilitation teamwork in motion. All departments and employees are

supervised by certain pre-defined guidelines and goals, that understand and organize each other.

This guarantees the organizational priorities are met.

7.0 COMPETITORS

Competitors in management are groups or nations that engage in trade or economic rivalry with

others. It can be also be characterized as competing companies that can provide your customer

with identical or comparable goods and services.

On Demand travel agency is known as an organization as travelling organization. Our company

is named as On Demand Destination. In this country, the competition is quite fierce because

there are many local travel agencies competing in the same market. For example, Dasree Travel

Tour Sdn. Bhd . If compared to the international market, our organization may not be able to

compete with the world’s well-known other travel agency like Pacific World Travel, Virtuoso

and Yeepintravel. Therefore, as for now, our organization has decided to only focus on

competition in the local market before expanding our business and compete internationally.

Our company has chosen Dasree Travel Tour Sdn Bhd local company that located in the city of

Alor Setar as our competitor. Dasree Travel Tour Sdn. Bhd competers in local market by

planning good pricing strategy. Pricing strategy is the process of a business setting prices in

accordance with the perceived value of its services for customers. This agency is affordable as

specifically aimed people with lower and middle class incomes as a customers.

16
Other than that, this company always keep update the information about the package that they

provide to their customers different time to time. It is because they want to provide difference

experience as their travel agency. As a travel agency they provide all kinds of packages. In

addition, many customers have given positive reviews to this travel agency through media social.

It gives confidence to customers to repeat and use their services again. The competition between

organizations may appear like a problem but we believe this competition motivates us to assess

our strengths and weaknesses and improve our plans.

8.0 Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, And Threats (SWOT) of On Demand Destination Sdn.

Bhd.

A SWOT analysis is a methodology used to assess a company's competitive situation and

develop a strategic plan. The SWOT report examines both internal and external variables, as well

as current and anticipated future situations. A SWOT analysis is designed to allow for a

practical, fact-based, data-driven examination of the benefits and drawbacks of an organisation,

its methodologies, or its sector. To maintain the accuracy of the analysis, the company must

avoid preconceived notions or grey zones and focus on the context of actual situations.

Companies should use it as a guideline rather than a strict rule.

8.1 Strengths

Strengths are factors which the company holds expertise in and contribute to the continued

success of the organization. These are the basis of the organization and will assist in gaining the

organization’s mission.

Our company's assets include having knowledgeable employees, reliable financial standing, and

widespread public recognition. First off, we have staff members who are qualified in that they

17
have degrees in the tourism industry. We place a lot of emphasis on this issue since we want to

establish an agency where we properly prepare and care for clients. Our business will be on the

correct road and limit the occurrence of unforeseen hazards with the presence of these skilled

individuals. Our staff members also possess excellent communication skills. They are taught to

constantly interact with consumers in a polite and appropriate manner. We place a lot of

emphasis on this since we don't want clients to see our business negatively because of poor

customer service provided by our workers. We think that no customer enjoys receiving bad

service from any vendor. Furthermore, in today's world, anything may spread swiftly online.

Therefore, that is harmful for the business, and we want to stop it from happening.

A strong financial foundation is the second. Our company's finances are still stable as far as how

we conduct business. Because of our company's strong sales and profitability, we can still make

timely payments on our debt. The customer can still receive all the necessities they have in an

adequate manner. Wages and other benefits are also provided to employees on time. In addition,

our sales always exceed our expenses. We can therefore always manage our funds such that they

are at a stable level.

Thirdly, our company has been known by the public. To be honest, this is very difficult to do at

the beginning of the establishment because we need more effort to ensure that our company is

known. Various ways we have done to make our company one of the customer focused

companies. Among them is that we did a massive promotion at the beginning of the

establishment. In addition, we also create advertisements online to give exposure to anyone who

sees them. This advertisement also needs to be made in a creative way so that people are

interested in seeing it. Furthermore, we have also raised banners on the sides of the road to

promote our company.

18
Other than that, our company also do a research and development (R&D). To conduct research,

we went to the actual spot. Because we are familiar with the situation on the site, it is a strength

for our business and we will utilise it to our advantage to satisfy users with the best conditions.

For instance, if a hotel reservation is included in a package, we would visit the hotel and discuss

our package with the management there. With this, we are able to give users of our service the

best service possible.

So that, With the strength our business has, this will help it grow and gain the recognition of a lot

more people.

8.2 Weaknesses

Weakness refers to factors in the internal environment of the organization or important resources

that are lacking or weak in the organization in question so it can become an obstacle to the

process of planning and implementing the strategic plan of the business organization. The state

of a business or company in the face of competitors who have limitations and deficiencies as

well as the ability to dominate the market, resources and expertise. Shortages in terms of

resources including energy resources, expertise, skills and abilities are the main obstacle to the

appearance of satisfactory organizational performance.

The weakness of On Demand Travel Agency is let networking and customers trust in our travel

agency. The problem we always facing is the problem of the internet chain that is often

interrupted. This problem often has a negative impact on our company. This is because most of

our business activities are online. These issues have an impact on more than just the final

consumer, they may also create disruption along the entire process by giving the wrong data

along the way. Next our weakness is our travel agency difficult to gain trust from customers.

19
This is because now more people are doing scam business. Most of them are doing online

businesses such as travel agency. This has had a negative impact on our business.

8.3 Opportunities

Opportunity is one of the elements in SWOT analysis. The opportunities covering any acceptable

situation in the business’s environment that the operation may gain the benefits form. The

opportunity can be from variousness and the use of telecommunications to market trends and

relationship development. Usually, all operations have some opportunities to make profit for

company. New trends in the consumer behavior can open up new market for the company. It

provides a great opportunity for the organization to build new revenue streams and modify

into new product categories too.

Our company, On Demand Destination has a strategic location that can help our company

to make marketing easier because in general, a strategic location that is frequently passed

by and visited by many travels. Location that our company chose is a strategic where there

just have one rivalry and it easy to captivate customer in the area. This is because

customers don’t need to go to other agencies which are far from them. In addition, our

company gave a better impression, so that the sales target achieved increased.

Our company also takes opportunity to using social media as a platform to promote the

company widely. Social media is online communication that allows companies to interact

with customers and share information directly. Currently, the use of social media has

become a necessary daily activity. So, our company wants to take this opportunity to use

social media to attract more customers. Using social media like Facebook and Instagram is

20
very helpful and high chance to get new customer also it easy to promote to whole

country.

8.4 Threats

Threats are elements in the external environment that endanger the organization's viability and

dependability. These risks are uncontrollable and show that the stability and existence of the

organisations are at stake.

In addition to the internal strengths we have, there are also threats from the outside that also

affect the management of our organization. Among the threats is a lot of competition and the

current economic situation.

Firstly, many competitors. This is because there are many other agencies that are better known

and have been operating for a long time. So, customers trust competing companies more than our

company. Although our company has been known, but for customers to put 100% trust in us is

quite impossible. It is also possible that our competitors provide services and needs that our

company cannot provide. This has made our company the second choice in their travel planning.

As an illustration, a tour agency called Dasree Travel & Tour operates close to our business. This

business has been in operation for 17 years and possesses adequate facilities and significant

financial resources. Additionally, this company offered international vacation packages that were

not offered by our organisation. Additionally, this business has loyal customers who will in fact

hunt for it if they want to travel anyplace.

The second is the current state of the economy. We are forbidden from travelling anyplace when

COVID-19 strikes our nation, as we are aware. Because we were not yet making sales and

receiving revenue, this had a significant effect on our business. In addition, as all prices have

21
increased due to the economic downturn, we will need to increase the package's cost. As a result,

our clients now prioritise more skilled ones.

9.0 Summary

To sum it all up, our company spends a lot of money to generate stable income.

Regarding to our company, P-O-L-C functions of management are still a very useful way

to analyze the activities that managers can use to achieve organization goals. Our

company also uses SWOT analysis to know our current situation and determine what we

need as a strategy to move forward. Firstly, we need to survey our company strengths and

figure out how we can use those strengths to take advantage of our company

opportunities. Then, we look at how strengths can encounter the threats that are in the

market. We use this analysis to take action to make our company will be better in the

future.
