-WHAT IS SELF- refers to the multifaceted and complex construct that encompass.

1. MATERIAL SELF- Tangible objects possession we collect to ourselves

2. SOCIAL SELF- how we interact and portray ourselves

3. SPIRITUAL SELF- refers to most intimate and important part of the self includes: person purpose, motives,
emotions, values, conscience and moral behavior.

1. SELF CONCEPT- mental image a person has of themselves.

2. SELF ESTEEM- individual evaluation of their self worth.

3. SELF IDENTITY- refers to specific qualities, roles, and characteristics that a person associate with themselves.

Stage 1- age 0-18 months trust vs. Mistrust hope

Stage 2- 18 months to 3 years autonomy vs. Shame will

Stage 3- 4 -6 years initiative vs. Guilt purpose

Stage 4- 7-12 years industry vs. Inferiority competence

Stage 5- 13-18 years identity vs. Role confusion fidelity

Stage 6- 19-39 years intimacy vs. Isolation love

Stage 7- 40-64 years generativity vs. Stagnation care

1. Oral stage- lasting from birth to first year, can leave to in comparative or aggressive personality disorders
2. The Anal stage-involve child pleasure in eliminating body waste and learning societal rules
3. The phallic stage- 3-6 years old characterized by children curiosity about the diff. Between man women

4. Latency Stage- sexual energy is repressed because children become busy

-ARCHETYPES- universal thought form or predisposition

-PERSONA- social role that individual represent to other.

-SHADOW-repress thoughts that are unacceptable.

-ANIMA-feminine side of the male psyche

2. Rationalism- the idea that knowledge can be acquired to reason alone.

EASTERN PERSPECTIVE

Refers about the Ultimate meaning of human life

1. Collective emphasis on interconnectedness with family community and society

2. Spirituality – religious seen as an illusion to be transcended through spiritual practices
