It is also a place where you can find different local materials that you can use in creating artwork or crafts. Novo Ecijanos, the people of Nueva Ecija, use these resources to create different arts and crafts, Cogon also known as "kogon" is a perennial weed that grows in thick circular patches. It has flat, rigid, and yellowish-green leaves that can be up to 6 feet long and about an inch wide. It can be found in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija. The leaves of cogon grass are commonly used as a roof of huts and can be weaved as baskets and bags. BAMBOO
Bamboo belongs to a grass family.
It is a very tall grass characterized by a jointed stem called a culm. This local material can be found in most parts of Nueva Ecija but it is more abundant in Fort Magsaysay There are a lot of things that can be crafted from bamboo namely, furniture, placemats, and coasters, bowl and craft boxes, wind chimes, clocks, instruments, baskets, et cetera. Water hyacinth, a plant found in
freshwater environments, is used for weaving and creating various handicrafts. The stems are dried in the sun for 7-8 days, then flattened for weaving. The municipality of Cuyapo in Nueva Ecija is renowned for its bags and other crafts made from water hyacinth.
