7. PREPARATION AND SEQUENCE OF WORK

7.1. Preparation
7.1.1. Materials and equipment
7.1.2. Area supervisor to ensure every employee who works with or near large
quantities of hazardous materials must know the steps to take and who to
contact in the event of a spill, equipment, tools, consumables and other support
equipment.
7.1.3. Certificate of compliance as stated in Spec. shall be submitted prior to
commence of the work
7.1.4. Mobilization.
7.1.4.1. After obtaining approval from the client send all materials and
equipment to site
7.1.4.2. Area supervisor to ensure all certifiable lifting equipment must have a
current certificate. All slings must be inspected daily before use.
Defective slings must be replaced immediately.
7.1.4.3. Mobilization of manpower

7.2. Work sequence

7.2.1. Surface Preparation.
The surface of the material to be painted should be clean first from dirt, oil,
and rust by sandblasting using a standard reference used is SSPC-SP10 or
Sa. 2 ½.
7.2.2. Painting application conditions
After completion of work surface (sandblasting), the next step is painting.
Painting work should be done on the same day and should be 4 hours, unless
there is on in the room and no thermostat (Dehumidify) which would otherwise
require after cleaning the surface. When doing a painting work, comparisons
thinner, mixing paint according to the manufacturer’s recommendation.

The MSDS must be available to any employee who works with or transports
such products. Rejected of faulty or rejected coating shall be at supplier’s
expense
7.2.3. Application painting work is divided into 4 (four) phases:
 Surface Preparation Work : Abrasive blast clean to SSPC
SP-10 or Sa 2 ½
 Primer Coat work
 Intermediate Coat
 Finish Coat
7.2.4. Weather conditions
Work surface preparation and paint application can’t be performed if:
 Steel surface temperature is less than 3º C above the dew point temperature
(Dewpoint). Refer to clause 12.7.2 in PTIP Specification, table 15. 8.8 –Paint
Inspection Instruments
 Priming or finishing shall be done at relative humidity below 85% refer PTIP
Specification clause 12.7.2
 Conditions of strong winds and dusty
 Checks to detect weather the dew point and humidity must be done before,
during and after each stage of the preparation work surfaces and painting
application.
7.2.5. Painting specifications
* Surface Preparation: Abrasive blast clean to SSPC SP-10 or
Sa 2 ½
* Primer Coat : DFT. 75 µm
* Intermediate Coat : DFT. 100 µm
* Finish Coat : DFT. 60 µm
(Material Safety Data Sheet with all hazardous products shall be provided)

8. BLASTING APLICATIONS
Applicator must always be alert to the hazards of Sandblasting operations and take
precautions against harmful exposures.

8.1. Blasting work is using abrasive material using Super Blast Grit.

8.2. Blasting operations create high noise levels, so hearing protection is a must-for both
the operator and nearby workers, operators should also use heavy canvas or leather
gloves, aprons, or leggings when appropriate as well as safety shoes.

8.3. Ensure that before any work is done sandblasting material in dry conditions. There is
no oil, grease and other dirty.
