DIKSHA
• The Ministry of Human Resource Development and National Council of Teachers
Education (NCTE) have taken an initiative to address the need of a digital national
platform for teachers and have named it DIKSHA.
• The Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD) on 5 September 2017
launched DIKSHA Portal (diksha.gov.in) for providing digital platform to teachers for
making their lifestyle more digital.
• DIKSHA will enable, accelerate and amplify solutions in the realm of teacher education.
• Government has released a list of various e-learning portals for the primary, secondary,
senior secondary, graduate and post-graduate level aspirants.
• DIKSHA portal is a step toward ensuring holistic learning for both teachers and students.
• The digital learning app is directed to access and created a comprehensive learning
environment where both tutor and student can grow.
• DIKSHA is a customizable platform which is currently being used by teachers (from both
government and private institutions) across the nation for all the standards to help the
students learn several concepts. The portal is accessible in many languages for easy
understandability of the user.
• For Teachers – The portal enables the teachers understand their career span. From the time
they join the school to their retirement, they can map out their career progression and can
work on their skills accordingly. Teachers will also be able to contribute to the existing
learning material, share their achievements and have access to authenticate the work of
other teachers as well.
• Benefits – Teachers who join courses run at this portal will be able to grow in a systematic
way. They will earn badges and certificates on completion that will prove beneficial for the
professional development.
• Motto - The DIKSHA platform strengthens the hands of ‘Our Teachers Our Heroes’.
• It will help teachers to create training content, profile, in-class resources, assessment aids,
news and announcement and connect with teacher community.
• The portal will record complete work and accomplishment of teachers in educational
institutes from start to end point till their retirement. It will cover entire life cycle of teacher–
from time they were enrolled as student teachers in Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) to
after they retire as teachers.
• The portal will help teachers boost their teaching skills and create their own separate profile
with their skills and knowledge. It will help in improving quality of education wit use of latest
technologies in education sector. Government, private institutes and NGO’s also can
participate in the Diksha initiative.
• National Teacher Platform (NTP) branded as "Diksha" is an initiative of the Ministry of
Human Resource Development, Government of India.
• It is a state-of-the-art platform built to host Open Educational Resources (OER) and tools for
Teachers in Schools, Teacher Educators in Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) and Student
Teachers in TEIs.
• It is built considering the whole teacher’s life cycle - from the time student teachers enroll in
TEIs to after they retire as teachers.

• CBSE plans to select the content contributed for uploading on DIKSHA. In the context of
above, CBSE is calling on all the schools affiliated to the Board to come forward and
encourage their teachers to appear on the national platform by grabbing this opportunity.
• DIKSHA (https://diksha.gov.in/) is already being used by many teachers and students across
states and existing patterns of usage clearly highlights that the content which can help them
understand the concept in a simple way is what they are liking the most and majority of
them are concept explanation videos.
• Content is to be prepared on topics covered under curriculum of classes I to XII.
• Teachers whose contribution of content will be selected for upload on DIKSHA will be duly
recognized by assigning due weightage in selection Criteria of CBSE Teachers Awards finalized
henceforth by CBSE. Further, these teachers may be chosen to be a part of CBSE’s national
content creation team.
• What does the platform provide
NTP envisages to provide:
• Teacher training courses (example - training on learning outcomes, CCE, etc.)
• Teaching resources such as lesson plans, concept videos, worksheets, mapped to
curriculum
• Assessments for teachers, to find out their strengths and areas of improvement

Teachers will be able to access this material offline on their smartphones, tablets
and other devices anytime and anywhere. Material will be contextualized to local
languages as well as mapped to the curriculum.
• Scope of the platform
• The NTP will cater to teachers from all stages of school education including pre-primary,
primary, upper primary, secondary and senior secondary. All institutions, groups and
individuals catering to the above can be enrolled as members of the platform, and can
contribute to the creation, curation and use of resources on the platform.
Highlights of DIKSHA Portal
• DIKSHA is built considering the whole life cycle of teacher beginning from the time when
they enroll in Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) to the time they retire as teachers.
• States, government bodies and even private organizations can integrate DIKSHA into their
respective teacher initiatives based on their goals, needs and capabilities.
• DIKSHA platform can be used to create in-class resources, teacher training content,
assessment aids, teacher profile, news and announcement and teacher community.
• These features have been added in the portal after consultations with multiple state
governments, NGOs and more than 30 public and private organizations, who have
contributed to DIKSHA.
• Expected benefits
By building the National Teacher Platform (NTP), the MHRD envisions following benefits:
• Teachers can access relevant personalized professional development training anytime and
anywhere
• Teachers in Schools can use the curriculum-linked resources to prepare for class or use them
to teach in the class, while Teacher Educators in TEIs can use it to deliver blended training
• Student Teachers in TEIs and contractual Teachers will be able to take courses on the NTP to
prepare for the TET and/or get certified
• Cluster & Block Resource Personnel can use standardized observation tools on the NTP to
provide need-based coaching support to teachers and do continuous training-needs analysis
• NTP infrastructure shared amongst many states will avoid duplication of efforts and save
costs
• Teachers will have access to their own personalized workspace where they can plan and track
their progress including courses completed, performance in tests etc.
